Why the Warthog Is Ugly is a story from the Rafiki Remembers magazine collection. It was published in the 1990s as part of The Lion King: A Nature Fun and Learn Series.
Synopsis[]
Warthog prides himself on his good looks, an attitude that pushes away the other animals, who resent him for his boasting. One day, Warthog is eating when Porcupine finds his den and curls up in it for a nap.
Meanwhile, Warthog runs into Lion and foolishly makes fun of him for his grungy appearance. Enraged, Lion chases Warthog back home, but when Warthog dives into his burrow, he face-plants into Porcupine and gets a face-full of sharp quills. Roaring with pain, he bursts out of his den, and Lion watches him go, laughing. To this day, Warthog's face is still covered in lumps and bruises from Porcupine's quills.
