Why the Monkeys Have No House is a story from the Rafiki Remembers magazine collection. It was published in the 1990s as part of The Lion King: A Nature Fun and Learn Series.
Synopsis[]
A lead monkey gathers his troop and encourages them to build a house that will shield them from the rain. The troop agrees to set about completing this task the next morning, but come sunrise, one of the troop members is missing. When he returns, admitting that he'd needed food, the lead monkey changes plans so that they will meet again the following day.
The next day, two troop members are missing. When they return, they claim that they'd heard a lion in the night. Once again, construction of the monkey house is delayed, but three monkeys go missing next, for they'd gone to check out the flooded river instead. This goes on and on and on, and goes on to this day, for monkeys will always be putting off the construction of their house until all members are present.
