Pumbaa (nephew)

Listen to me, Pumbaa, you can do anything you put your mind to, darling, but you must believe in yourself!
―Ernie to Pumbaa[src]

Uncle Ernie is a male warthog. He is Pumbaa's deceased uncle.

The Lion King's Timon & Pumbaa

"Sense & Senegambia"

When Pumbaa tells Timon that he cannot catch bugs anymore after failing to catch a cricket, Timon believes that it's because something's wrong with his senses of seeing, hearing, and smelling. So he buys Pumbaa a pair of glasses, two horns for his ears, and a vacuum cleaner for his snout.

As Pumbaa hunts for the cricket, he falls off a cliff and passes out. He dreams that he gets caught by crickets. Pumbaa's uncle Ernie shows up in the clouds and tells his nephew that he can do anything he puts his mind to but must believe in himself. Pumbaa wakes up and follows his uncle's orders, and he can successfully catch bugs again.

Personality and traits

Not much is known about Ernie's personality. It is apparent that he serves as a mentor to Pumbaa, as shown when he talks to his nephew via the latter's dream, stating that he must believe in himself in order to catch bugs.
