Ma, Timon

We are feared by no one and eaten by all!
―Timon's father on meerkats

Timon's father is a male meerkat. He is a member of Timon's colony. He is the mate of Ma, with whom he has a son, Timon.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Timon's father lived as a member of a colony of meerkats. He took on a mate, with whom he had a son, Timon.[1]

Training Timon to be a sentry[]

Timon's father: Timon, Timon, this is our home, and I'm proud of those tunnels. Your mother and I dig those tunnels to keep you safe. We dig those tunnels because we love you.
Timon: You dig tunnels because you're just afraid of everything.
—Timon and his father

One day, Timon asked his father why the colony had to dig tunnels, and his father implored him to look out over the Pride Lands. Though Timon was awed by the sight, his father claimed that the land belonged to somebody else and that meerkats were simply food for other animals. Timon wondered if they could find a better life away from predators, but his father insisted that this was their home. He added that the reason he dug tunnels was so that he could protect Timon, but Timon accused him of being afraid.

Buzz1

Timon's father teaches his son about the meerkat way of life.

Just then, Ma approached with a leaf full of termites. Timon's father complained about having to eat termites again, and Ma sarcastically asked if he was feeling braver. Instead of answering, Timon's father proclaimed that he would be home late because he had a tunnel to repair, then marched off.

Once his father had gone, Timon wondered if he was adopted, and Ma lamented how different the two were. Timon complained that he was tired of doing everything his father's way, and Ma reminded him that he was growing up and that he would be forging his own path soon, whether his father liked it or not.[1]

Simba's presentation[]

Timon, pipe down. No funny stuff!
―Timon's father, after Timon insults two hippopotamuses
Buzzmon

Timon's father tells Timon to stay at the back of the crowd.

The colony attended the presentation of Simba. Upon realizing that they were at the back of the crowd, Timon urged the colony to move closer, but his father argued that they had a perfect view of the ceremony from where they were. No sooner had he spoken when two hippopotamuses sat down in front of the meerkats, obstructing their view. Indignant, Timon pointed out that they had come to see the Lion King, not two "mudflaps."

At this, the hippopotamuses turned around and called Timon a "talking seat cushion." The other meerkats fled down their holes in terror, and Timon's father apologized to the hippopotamuses for his son's rudeness. He then ordered Timon to be quiet and to not do any "funny stuff."[1]

Physical appearance[]

Timon's father is a tall and bulky meerkat. He has a dark crew cut.[1]

Personality and traits[]

Timon, you two are as different as twilight and dusk!
―Ma on Timon and his father

Timon's father is flighty and suspicious. He is content with his simple way of life and takes pride in his colony's tunnels. He and his son often clash, as Timon wishes for a better way of life, while Timon's father has accepted his place in the Circle of Life.[1]
