Time for the Lion Guard is a book inspired by The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar. It was published in 2017 by Disney Enterprises.

Plot[]

As the sun rises over the Pride Lands, Simba speaks with his daughter, Kiara. Suddenly, a flying baobab fruit hits Simba on the nose, and he and Kiara are interrupted by Kion and his best friend, Bunga, who are playing Baobab Ball. Simba explains the importance of Kiara's lession to Kion, and Kion and Bunga resolve to finish their game elsewhere, much to Kiara's relief.

Once away from Pride Rock, Kion and Bunga race through the savanna, encountering Ono the egret, Beshte the hippopotamus, and Fuli the cheetah along the way. Kion and Bunga continue playing until the baobab fruit accidentally falls into the Outlands. Bunga attempts to fetch the fruit, but is captured by two hyenas, Cheezi and Chungu, in the process.

Furious at the hyenas' nerve, Kion lets out a magnificent roar, which frightens the hyenas into letting Bunga free. Still in shock at his newfound power, Kion leads Bunga back to Pride Rock. Meanwhile Simba, his mate, Nala, and their adviser, Rafiki, marvel at the sound.

When Kion returns to Pride Rock, Rafiki informs the lion cub that his roar was the Roar of the Elders, a powerful roar that, when used, harnesses the roars of the Great Lions of the Past as well.

Simba and Rafiki then lead Kion into the Lair of the Lion Guard, where Simba tells his son about the Lion Guard, a team of animals tasked with protecting the Pride Lands from harm. Simba and Rafiki then bestow the title of Lion Guard leader upon Kion, who wastes no time in assembling his team.
