Simba encounters the ghost of his father, Mufasa, during which "This Land" is heard

Unlike the other scores in The Lion King, "This Land" is heard in two separate scenes. The first comes early in the film, just before Rafiki is seen painting Simba. The score picks up at the start of the rainstorm and carries through until just before Rafiki's appearance.

At this point, the score shifts to the scene in which Simba encounters the ghost of his father, Mufasa. The score plays through Simba's interaction with Mufasa's spirit as well as his follow-up conversation with Rafiki. The score ends with the musical flourish heard as Simba resolves to return to the Pride Lands amidst Rafiki's cheers of encouragement and joy.

In other media

"This Land" underwent several changes for the 2019 remake of The Lion King. It is cut and replaced with "Rafiki's Fireflies" during the scene in which Rafiki paints Simba. However, it remains relatively unchanged for the scene in which Simba encounters the ghost of his father, Mufasa.

In the stage musical version of The Lion King, the early section of score from "This Land" (the rainstorm) is titled "Pridelands", while the latter part of the track (Simba's encounter with Mufasa's ghost) is called "Pool Reveal".[10] Certain parts of the score were cut and replaced with portions of the "He Lives In You (Reprise)" musical number.

A remixed version of "This Land" is heard in the 1994 video game The Lion King.
