"The Rightful King" is a musical piece composed by Hans Zimmer for The Lion King. It was released on June 24, 2014, as part of The Legacy Collection: The Lion King.
Use[]
In the soundtracks[]
"The Rightful King" was initially released under the title "Simba & Nala Move In - King Of The Priderock" on the complete film score. However, the album was retracted after one day. On June 24, 2014, The Legacy Collection: The Lion King was released, with "Simba & Nala Move In - King Of The Priderock" having been remixed and titled "The Rightful King".
In the film[]
"The Rightful King" can be heard from when Scar calls to Sarabi from atop Pride Rock to just after Scar pretends to submit to Simba and tries to slink away. After a brief quiet section, the score picks up at the start of the fight between Scar and Simba and concludes with the reprise of "Circle of Life" heard at the conclusion of the film.
Behind the scenes[]
- Parts of the score can be heard in the official soundtrack, on the track "King of Pride Rock (Score)".
- A part of the score can be heard in The Lion King 1½ after Simba defeats Scar.[1]
- The music that scores Simba's rise to Pride Rock is accompanied by a chorus singing in Swahili. This chorus sings the same lyrics as that featured at the end of the stage musical version. Why this was cut from the original film is unknown.
- The Legacy Collection: The Lion King set includes both the final cue and a demo version of the cue.
