The Quarrel is a story from the Rafiki Remembers magazine collection. It was published in the 1990s as part of The Lion King: A Nature Fun and Learn Series.
Synopsis[]
Earth and Heaven are great friends, but one day, they catch a rat and quarrel over who deserves to keep it. Seeing no end to their argument, Heaven flies up into the sky and leaves Earth behind. At first, no one misses Heaven, but soon, the rivers begin to dry up and the maize begins to shrivel, prompting the animals to agree that Heaven must come back. In order to convince Heaven to return, they send Hawk up to give back the rat that Earth and Heaven had caught. However, he soon becomes too exhausted and must return to the ground, rat still in hand.
Other birds try, but none are able to reach Heaven. At last, Vulture volunteers, and the other animals laugh, doubting him. However, he soon reaches Heaven and knocks on his door to return the rat. With his prey returned to him, Heaven showers the ground with rain, and Vulture descends back to Earth, looking for shelter, but he is driven away by the other animals, who pelt him with stones.
