Oh, she is such a pretty girl. So full of wonder and surprise. I see a new and brighter world each time I look in her eyes.
Nala sings to Shani[src]

The Lion King II: Simba's Pride is an early treatment for what would become the film of the same name. It was written by Jenny Wingfield and dated September 15, 1995.

Synopsis[]

One morning, Rafiki drew a painting of Shani underneath that of her father, Simba. Meanwhile, at Pride Rock, Nala sang a lullaby to her infant daughter, Shani. Simba approached, and Nala questioned if he was disappointed that he had not had a son. Simba admitted that every father wanted a son to carry on the family name and do things with.

Seasons later, many young male lions gathered around Shani, eager to become her mate, but she refused to acknowledge them. From afar, Nala observed that Shani was popular, and Simba pointed out that the daughter of the king was always popular. Nala wondered which suitor Shani would choose, and Simba answered that she would choose none of them, just as she had for weeks. At last, Shani turned away from her suitors, and they left, dejected.

As the suitors walked away, Nala encouraged Simba to speak with Shani, but he argued that she had become too distant. He then mused whether she had changed because of her age or because of a stage that she was going through.
