In the beginning of the film, as in the first film, trees can be seen on the back of Pride Rock. However, later in the film, these trees are gone. This is particularly noticeable in the shots where Pride Rock is viewed from the back.
When Timon cries out in surprise, it shows his neck stretched tall. However, in the next shot, he is leaning forward over Pumbaa's head.
When Kovu says, "Who are you, Pride Lander?", his mane turns from brown to black for a split second.
The phrase "Follow in his footsteps," is changed to "Follow in his pawsteps," for one of Simba's lines. However, Zira uses the phrase "hand-chosen," even though lions do not have hands.
As Nuka approaches Vitani in his first scene, his mane suggests that he is a young adult. However, when he comes into view, his mane disappears. Later, when Nuka and Vitani go to the Elephant Graveyard, he turns back into a teenager when the geyser erupts and when Vitani picks up her lit shoot. This happens again when Zira and Nuka observe Kovu's progress.
When Zira is singing "My Lullaby", the notch on her ear changes from one ear to the other. It does this four times by the end of the song.
When Rafiki is in his tree, there is a gourd that falls and breaks. Rafiki picks it up, then makes a hand gesture, showing that he has dropped the gourd pieces. However, they are not visible in the overhead shot when he says, "I just hope you know what you are doing!"
When Nuka and Vitani are at the Elephant Graveyard igniting their sticks to set the Pride Lands ablaze, Vitani is first drawn with dark ear stripes. There is a close-up of her rolling her eyes at Nuka, and the ear stripes are not colored in. However, the lines indicating where they are present can be seen. When the stick ignites and Vitani grabs it, the stripes are back. This mistake is repeated throughout the film.
Throughout most of the film, Vitani's eyes are blue, but when she and Nuka are igniting their sticks to burn the Pride Lands, her eyes are red. This could be due to the hazy atmosphere of the Elephant Graveyard.
In Simba's nightmare, the stampede is moving from right to left below Mufasa, while in the original film, the stampede is moving from left to right.
When Simba allows Kovu to come inside the den for the first time, an angle from behind indicates that they are near the entrance of the den. However, it then switches to an angle that shows them a fair distance away from it.
When Simba and Kovu are walking through the burned forest, they are ambushed by the Outsiders. But when there is the aerial shot of them walking, the Outsiders are nowhere to be seen.
When Zira angrily slashes Kovu after Nuka dies, her paw strikes him horizontally, but his scar is vertical.
Toward the end of "One of Us", when Kovu is running away and the birds are chasing him, Simba is standing on Pride Rock, looking down at Kovu. In the next shot of Pride Rock, Simba is gone, but in the next shot, Simba is back, in the same position as in the first shot.
During the final battle, the number of lionesses changes dramatically. When the two prides are standing in line, there are dozens on both sides. However, when Kovu and Kiara see the battle from across the gorge, there only appear to be 10 at most. Also, both Zira and Simba are missing, as well as any of the existing land formations, such as Zira's rock.
At the end, just before the final fight scene, Zira stands on a rock above her pride. Shortly after, there is a close-up of her with a couple of lionesses beside her, all on the same height. They disappear in the next shot of Zira.
During the final battle between the Pride Landers and the Outsiders, Zira frequently refers to the enemy as males. For example, "Break his jaw!" and "Hit him low!" However, none of the Pride Landers, except Simba, are male.
Kovu's scar disappears when he and Kiara are jumping between their prides to stop the battle.
Zira scratches Kovu across the face and gives him a scar on his left eye. However, as Zira plummets to her death, Kovu is shown sighing sadly, and his scar is absent. This is due to the animators reusing the animation of Kovu sighing before deciding to tell Kiara about Zira's plan.
After Simba admits that he was wrong about Kovu, Kiara nuzzles Kovu. In this shot, Kiara has the "Outsider nose" instead of her normal nose.
At the end of the film, as the lionesses sit in a circle atop Pride Rock, a lioness (possibly Vitani due to her colors) can be seen sitting next to Nala. However, when Simba, Nala, Kovu, and Kiara stand to ascend to the peak, the lioness is gone.
Toward the end of the film, Kovu's brown mane seems to be splashed with some of Simba's red.
The bite notch on Zira's ear changes sides throughout the film.
Near the end of "One of Us", the beisa oryx at the front of the animal chorus (the one shaking her head slowly) has incorrect facial markings for her species. The other beisa oryx in the background has the correct markings. When she sings the "He is not one of us," solo, she has correct facial markings, but lacks the correct leg markings, which she had when her facial markings were incorrect.
In reality, lions do not have opposable thumbs, but Simba has one when he rescues Kiara after Zira falls into the river.
During "My Lullaby", Nuka begins singing when Vitani suddenly pushes him away. However, he is still calmly singing his line about half a second after Vitani pushes him off.
