The sun rises, turning the sky from black to red.
Lebo M   Nants ingonyama bagithi baba. Sithi uhm ingonyama. Ingonyama. [Various animals, including a rhino, several topi, and a colony of meerkats, lift their heads in the direction of the sun.] Nants ingonyama bagithi baba.
Timon   [from offscreen, in time with Lebo M] What's on the menu? It could be ceviche. [A cheetah pauses on the edge of a ridge, tail lashing.] Stinky-oo. It's Pumbaa.
Storks walk through a shallow body of water, look at one another, then take to the air.
Lebo M   [in the background] Sithi uhm ingonyama. Ingonyama.
Pumbaa [from offscreen] I gotta tell you, Timon. That song always gets me right here.
Timon [from offscreen] Yeah, Pumbaa? Well, enough of that.
Timon's hand comes into view. He is holding a remote, which he clicks. The movie starts to rapidly fast forward. Timon and Pumbaa's silhouettes are seen sitting in a theater.
Pumbaa Uh, Timon... What are you doin'?
Timon I'm fast-forwarding to the part where we come in.
Pumbaa But you can't go out of order!
Timon clicks the remote. The movie starts playing at the scene in which Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa cross a log.
Timon Au contraire, my porcine pal. [Timon waggles the remote.] I've got the remote!
Pumbaa But everyone's gonna get confused! [Pumbaa grabs a remote.] We gotta go back to the beginning of the story.
Pumbaa lifts and clicks his remote. The movie starts to rewind. Timon stands.
Timon We're not in the beginning of the story!
Timon clicks his remote. The movie pauses on a frame of Rafiki holding up Simba. The movie starts to fast forward.
Pumbaa Yes, we were! The whole time.
Pumbaa clicks his remote. The movie pauses on a frame of Timon standing with his mouth open.
Timon Ah! [The movie starts to rewind slower.] Yeah, but they don't know that.
Timon clicks his remote. The movie pauses on a frame of Nala pinning Simba. The movie starts to rewind.
Pumbaa Then why don't we tell them our story?
Pumbaa clicks his remote. The movie pauses on a frame of the hyena trio cackling. Timon and Pumbaa leap into the air.
Timon and Pumbaa *scream*
Timon and Pumbaa hide on the floor. They emerge slowly.
Timon Hey! I've got an idea. Why don't we tell 'em our story?
Pumbaa nods emphatically.
Pumbaa Oh! I like the sound of that.
Timon holds his chin thoughtfully.
Timon A little backstage tour. Take 'em behind the scenes for a [Timon strokes his chin.] revealing and intimate look at the story within the story!
Pumbaa 'Cause what they don't know is how we really were there, even though they didn't know we were there, y'know?
Timon Couldn't have said it better myself!
Timon clicks his remote. The movie starts to rewind.
Pumbaa So, does this mean we're going back to the beginning?
Timon clicks the remote. The movie plays the opening "Circle of Life" chant, but continues to rewind.
Timon Oh, no, Pumbaa. No. [Timon gestures dramatically.] We're going way back...to before the beginning.
Timon lifts his hands dramatically. The title card appears with cracks in the screen, then shatters like glass to reveal Pride Rock in the day.
Pumbaa [from offscreen] Pride Rock.
The angle changes to a view of Pride Rock from above.
Timon [from offscreen] So majestic.
The angle changes to a view of Pride Rock from below the promontory.
Pumbaa [from offscreen] So powerful.
The angle changes to a view of Pride Rock from its left side.
Timon [from offscreen] So...bizarrely named. [Timon clicks his remote, and the movie pauses. He faces Pumbaa.] Pumbaa, how can a rock be proud? It's a rock!
Pumbaa Well, I think it's because a "pride" is what they call a group of lions.
Timon Oh, sure, the lions get Pride Rock. And what about us meerkats? [Timon jerks a thumb at himself.] Where I come from, we didn't have nothin' to be proud of. Why... *clears throat*   When I was a young [Timon lifts his arms into the air.] meerkat...
Pumbaa   When he was a young meerkat!
The force of Pumbaa's voice blows Timon out of his seat.
Timon [from offscreen] Very nice.
Pumbaa Thanks!
Timon climbs back into his seat.
Timon But maybe it'd be safer if I just show 'em where I came from.
Pumbaa Oh, boy! Do we get to see where you grew up?
Timon slumps his shoulders.
Timon Yeah, Pumbaa, but it ain't pretty. [Timon sullenly lifts the remote and clicks it. The movie resumes. Timon's voice is heard over the footage.] Please remain seated while the camera is in motion.
The camera pans out rapidly from Pride Rock, passing multiple animals and locations, including the Elephant Graveyard, Rafiki's tree, and the gorge. It stops in an empty barren field.
Timon [from offscreen] Here we are. [A tumbleweed blows by.] From Pride Rock to the pit of shame. We're so low on the food chain, we're underground!
Chorus   [in the background] Semon pute!
Timon [from offscreen] But you don't have to take my word for it. I'll just let my fellow meerkats do the talking.
A meerkat emerges from a hole in the ground.
Meerkat   What was that?
Several meerkats emerge from holes in the ground.
Meerkats   What was what?
Several meerkats emerge from holes in the ground.
Meerkats   What was that? [Several meerkats emerge from holes in the ground.] What was that? [More and more meerkats emerge.] Where? What? Where? Where? What was that? Shhh! [The meerkats look left, then right. Still more meerkats stand on nearby rocks as sentries.] Quick, before the hyena come.
Meerkat sentry Clear!
The meerkats duck back underground and start digging tunnels.
Meerkats   Digga tunnah, dig, digga tunnah. [The meerkats crisscross their tunnels.] When you're done, ya digga bigger tunnah. [The meerkats all begin digging downward so their tunnels run parallel.] Digga tunnah, dig, digga tunnah. [Below ground, the colony carries small rocks through a tunnel.] Quick, before the hyena come. Dig! Digga tunnah, dig, digga tunnah. [Several meerkats dig down into an open tunnel, then tunnel into the floor.] You could dig and never get done. Digga tunnah, dig, digga tunnah. [Several meerkats stick their heads into the tunnel.] What was that? [The meerkats look right, then left, then forward.] Quick, before the hyena come. Dig! [Several meerkats march single-file into the tunnel.] Digga tunnah is what we do. [The meerkats begin passing rocks down a line.] Life's a tunnah. We're diggin' through. [Several meerkats stick their heads through holes in the tunnel wall.] Digga tunnah is what we sing. [A line of meerkats carrying a stick marches by.] Digga tunnah is everything. [Several lines of meerkats carrying sticks approach a wall of the tunnel.] Mud and clay is a meerkat's friend. [The meerkats prop the sticks against the floor and ceiling.] Always more around every bend. [Several meerkats dance out of slits in the tunnel wall.] And when you get to your tunnah's end, hallelujah! Let's dig again! [The meerkats splay their fingers.] Dig! [Several meerkats march in place in a row.] Digga tunnah, dig, digga tunnah. [The meerkats pass rocks down the line.] When you're done, ya digga bigger tunnah. Digga tunnah, dig, digga tunnah. [Several meerkats emerge from the ground and ceiling.] What was that? [The meerkats look one way, then another, then forward.] Quick, before the hyena come.
Meerkat   Dig!
Meerkats   [in the background] Digga tunnah, dig, digga tunnah.
Ma walks down a tunnel. Meerkats pass her, each carrying a rock.
Ma Timon! Excuse me.
Meerkats   [in the background] You could dig and never get done.
Ma Have you seen my son? Has he been through here? Timon?
Meerkats   [in the background] Digga tunnah, dig, digga tunnah.
Ma comes upon Uncle Max, who is carrying a rock.
Uncle Max   Digga tunnah, dig, digga tunnah! Digga tunnah...
Ma follows Uncle Max.
Ma Uncle Max?
Uncle Max starts, dropping his rock.
Uncle Max *screams*
Uncle Max ducks low to the ground, visibly trembling.
Ma Uncle Max, relax. Have you seen Timon?
Uncle Max straightens and clasps his hands.
Uncle Max No, I haven't, and what a day it's been! [Uncle Max counts off on his fingers.] No fractures, no lacerations, no concussions, [Uncle Max starts counting on his other hand.] contusions, or injuries of any sort. [Ma scowls. Uncle Max folds his arms.] As a matter of fact, there's no sign of Timon's handiwork anywhere! *cackles*
A massive crack forms in the tunnel ceiling above Uncle Max. His expression turns to fright before the tunnel collapses completely. When the dust clears, the tunnel is gone, and the colony is exposed to the outside and covered in dirt. In the middle of the meerkats, Timon stands with his back to the mayhem. Above him are the remains of a tunnel hole. Uncle Max, who is covered in dirt, slowly sits up.
Uncle Max That would be... [furiously] Timon!
Timon turns around.
Timon *chuckles nervously* Hey, everybody!
The meerkats glare at Timon.
Meerkat *laughs sarcastically* Nice work, Timon.
Meerkat Way to go, tunnel klutz.
Meerkat Who else could break a hole?
Meerkat Four in one week. A new record!
Ma, who is buried in dirt, watches the colony sadly. She looks away.
Ma Not again...
Timon What? It's called a skylight!
The remains of Timon's tunnel hole collapse. Ma walks up to Timon.
Ma Ho, ho. Wow! [Ma dusts off Timon.] Isn't that creative? [Ma shakes Timon, who merely looks at the ground sorrowfully.] A skylight! [Ma claps.] Oh, ha, ha. [Ma grabs one of Timon's arms.] I'll just have a word with him.
Ma drags Timon away from the colony.
Timon I... [Around Timon and Ma, the colony starts digging in the remains of the tunnel.] I was just trying to shed a little light on our pathetic existence.
The scene transitions to a grassy plain. Ma continues to walk side-by-side with Timon. She dusts off his side.
Ma Timon, [Ma darts behind Timon to dust off his back.] this can't go on. Just this month, [Ma darts back to Timon's side to dust it off.] you've pulled down four walls and collapsed two tunnel exits. [Ma licks one paw and uses it to smooth down Timon's hair.] We have to look after each other. Our survival depends on it.
Ma continues to smooth down Timon's hair.
Timon What's the point? All we do is dig so we can hide and hide so we can dig. [Ma stops combing Timon's hair, which immediately poofs up. He glares up at it with one eye closed. Then he holds his head with both hands.] I wanna be where we don't have to dig tunnels and [Timon strides away from Ma.] live with our heads stuck in the sand. [Timon parts some nearby grass.] What's so bad about dreaming of a better home?
Ma joins Timon, who is overlooking the open savanna.
Ma I wanna show you something. [Ma looks out over the savanna.] Look, Timon. [Ma uses one paw to angle Timon's head toward the savanna.] Go on, look. Look out to the horizon, [The camera slowly pans out to reveal the Pride Lands in all its glory.] past the trees, over the grasslands. [Timon stares in awe and grins.] Everything the light touches...belongs to someone else!
Timon's expression turns to confusion, then annoyance. The grass falls back into place, hiding him from view.
Timon [from offscreen] Funny. I thought you were going a whole different direction with this.
Ma leads Timon away from the grass.
Ma What can I say? It's nature's design.
Uncle Max pokes his head through some nearby grass, causing Timon and Ma to pull up short.
Uncle Max She's right! [Uncle Max shakes Timon.] We're food for other animals. [Uncle Max swings Timon back and forth as he looks from left to right.] A moveable feast. [Uncle Max hugs Timon close.] Feared by no one and eaten by all!
Timon But when they die, they become the grass. And we eat the grass...right?
Uncle Max Not exactly. We can't digest grass. We're grass intolerant.
Ma approaches and pulls Timon out of Uncle Max's grip.
Ma Okay, Max.
Uncle Max nibbles at his fingernails.
Uncle Max *whimpers*
Ma Thank you. You've been a big help. [to Timon] Honey, I–
Uncle Max erupts from the grass in front of Timon and Ma, halting them in their tracks.
Uncle Max Meerkat! It's what's for dinner!
Ma darts in front of Timon and points accusingly at Uncle Max.
Ma Thank you, Uncle Max!
Uncle Max Ugh.
Uncle Max disappears into the grass.
Timon I think Uncle Max [Timon makes the sign for "crazy."] dislodged one too many rocks with his skull.
Ma steps in front of Timon.
Ma But he's right, Timon. [Ma licks one paw and uses it to smooth down Timon's hair.] Oh, I just [Ma squashes a nearby flying insect in her paws and uses it on Timon's hair like it's gel.] know there's a way for you to fit in here.
Timon looks up pitifully with his hair smoothed down. A single strand flicks up.
Timon *sighs*
Uncle Max [from offscreen] All right. Who's on sentry duty?
Ma thinks for a moment. Then her face lights up.
Ma That's it! [Ma seizes Timon by the arms. He looks back uncertainly.] That's it! My son on sentry duty! Timon the sentry!
The scene transitions.
Uncle Max [horrified] Timon the sentry? [Ma glares at Uncle Max. Timon stands between them awkwardly.] Why don't you save the hyenas the trouble and [Uncle Max thumps his chest.] kill me now? [Uncle Max clasps his hands.] Just kill me now!
Timon He has a point.
Uncle Max buries his head in his hands. Ma touches Timon on the back.
Ma All you have to do is watch for hyenas and yell if you see one. Look at Iron Joe.
Nearby, a scraggly meerkat stands on a rock, twitching unnaturally.
Iron Joe Don't close your eyes! Don't look away! [Several meerkats march up to Iron Joe, pick him up, and carry him away.] Somebody's gotta guard us! Somebody's gotta protect us! *sobs*
Timon Well. Now, I'm convinced.
Ma Listen, [Ma counts off on her fingers.] it's outside, up in the breeze, under the wide, open sky. Isn't that what you want? [to Uncle Max] Or maybe you would rather have him go back on the digging crew.
Timon and Uncle Max hold up their hands. The colony is heard offscreen.
Timon, Uncle Max, and meerkats No!
Timon, Ma, and Uncle Max turn to see the colony standing in the rubble of the tunnel with their hands raised. They lower their hands awkwardly.
Meerkats *clears throat*
Ma Good. Then we all agree. [Ma grips Timon by the shoulder.] Timon, listen to Uncle Max. [Uncle Max rolls his eyes.] He'll teach you everything you need to know. [softly] And, honey, try to make this one work.
The scene transitions to the open savanna. Timon and Uncle Max stand on a rock beneath a short tree. Uncle Max scurries along the ground, sniffs the air, then flinches.
Uncle Max Scurry, sniff, flinch! [Uncle Max repeats the demonstration. Timon stands on the ground nearby, leaning one-armed against the tree.] Scurry, sniff, flinch! [Timon rolls his eyes.] Scurry, sniff, flinch! [Uncle Max tucks a stick under his arm like he's a drill sergeant.] Good. Now, [Uncle Max slides down the rock to the ground and walks side-by-side with Timon.] what do we do if we see a hyena?
Timon Scream, "Mommy!"?
Timon and Uncle Max pause. Uncle Max points at Timon.
Uncle Max That's right, mister! Because [Uncle Max grabs Timon by the shoulder and points at the savanna.] the world out there is fraught with danger. [Uncle Max shakes Timon.] Fraught, I tell you!
Timon Oh, boy. It's the fraught fest.
Uncle Max [in the background] Even all bloodthirsty hyenas are waiting to rip us limb from limb!
Timon Bravo, Uncle Max. [Timon claps.] Way to sell it to the cheap seats.
Uncle Max seizes Timon by the wrists.
Uncle Max Applaud now, sonny boy. [severely] But try clapping when you don't have any hands!
Uncle Max stalks offscreen. Timon stares at his hands.
Timon *gulps* [Timon darts onto the rock. He scurries along the ground, sniffs the air, then flinches.] Scurry, sniff, flinch. [The savanna is peaceful and quiet. Timon looks back and forth. He repeats the exercise.] Scurry, sniff, flinch. [The savanna is peaceful and quiet. Music starts playing softly.] Huh. [Timon smiles.] I like the sound of that. [Timon repeats the exercise.] Scurry, sniff, flinch. [The savanna is peaceful and quiet. Timon continues to repeat the exercise. As he does so, he begins to dance, more and more flamboyantly.] Scurry, sniff, flinch. Scurry, sniff, flinch. Scurry, sniff, flinch!   There's more to life than panic and bein' some other guy's snack. [Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed emerge from behind a nearby rock.] Eugh! [Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed duck out of view.] I may be delicious, organic, [Timon swings his fists at the air.] but this little entree's fightin' back! [Timon swings his fist so hard that he spins around several times. He begins strutting across the rock, then grabs onto the tree's trunk.] I'm gonna put diggin' tunnels behind me and live at a new altitude. [Timon climbs up onto a branch and throws an armful of leaves into the air.] I'm gonna reach for the stars to remind me that meerkats are not merely food! [Timon steps onto a nearby cloud.] For once I'll be [Timon surfs away on the cloud.] lookin' out for me. [The cloud drifts into an idyllic jungle paradise.] Yeah! [Timon dives off the cloud into a waterfall below.] I'll tell you what I want. [Timon slides down the waterfall.] This cat is movin' on, [The momentum of Timon's fall throws him into the air.] where he's a bon vivant [Timon dives into a pool below.] who's missin' out on bon. [Timon swims underwater.] I'd be a bigger cheese far from the desert scene. [Timon disappears into a school of fish, which turns into a pile of butterflies.] A little cooling breeze. [The butterflies part one by one.] A little patch of green! [The butterflies part fully to reveal Timon holding a drink and lounging in a hammock by a waterfall. Two peacocks fan him with their tails.] And I'll be snoozin' in my hammock by a rippling stream, many miles from any tunnel and the digging team. [A pile of grubs dominates the screen. The grubs partially morph into Timon's face.] Looking after number one will be my only creed. That's all I need. [Timon eats the grubs.] *slurps* [Timon lifts his hands into the air.] That's all I need! [Timon dances the "Shuffle Off to Buffalo" atop a mound of grubs.] I've always been good at runnin' away. [Timon switches directions and repeats the dance.] Well, now, I'm gonna run the show-oh! [The lights darken overhead, and the jungle backdrop slides offscreen, as if it's part of a theater production. Timon stands alone on his rock in the savanna.] I've always been seen as the ultimate prey, [Timon lifts his hands into the air.] but now, my status ain't so quo! [Banzai and Ed emerge on either side of Timon.] A dream sublime. [Shenzi emerges behind Timon, who lifts his hands into the air.] It's hyena time! [Shenzi claps, startling Timon.] Oh!
Shenzi Oh, look. It's dinner and a show!
Banzai *snickers* And I thought beans were the only musical food.
Ed *laughs*
Timon stares at Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed in fear.
Timon Hy... Hy... Hy...
Shenzi Well, [Shenzi waves.] hi to you too!
Timon braces himself. Shenzi smacks him off his rock, and he goes rolling into the dirt.
Timon Gah!
Meanwhile, Uncle Max strolls past his fellow meerkats, who are still digging the tunnel. Timon rolls into him, and they fall together in a heap.
Uncle Max *yells*
Timon Ow! Okay.
Uncle Max swats Timon off him.
Uncle Max This is no time for horseplay, Timon. [Uncle Max points at the savanna.] You're supposed to be up there lookin' out for...
Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed stalk menacingly toward the colony.
Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed *snicker*
Uncle Max stares at Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed in terror.
Uncle Max Hyenas!
Behind Uncle Max, the meerkats jerk upright.
Meerkats *gasp* [The meerkats scatter in a panic, waving their hands in the air, while Uncle Max continues to stare at the oncoming hyenas.] *screams*
Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed stand over the colony, watching them.
Banzai Whoa, look at 'em scramble.
Shenzi crouches.
Shenzi And that's just how I like 'em...
Uncle Max, who is running, pulls up short.
Uncle Max *screams*
Behind him, several meerkats crash into him, pushing him into Shenzi's snout.
Meerkats *grunt*
Shenzi Scrambled...
Shenzi licks Uncle Max, lifting him into the air.
Uncle Max *screams*
Shenzi And a little bit runny.
The colony runs around in a panic.
Meerkats *scream* [Several meerkats race past Timon, who ducks, with his hands covering his head.] Hyenas!
Shenzi and Banzai race after the meerkats, ignoring Timon.
Shenzi and Banzai *laugh*
Ed races after Shenzi and Banzai, ignoring Timon.
Ed *laughs*
After the hyenas pass, Timon lowers his hands and relaxes.
Timon *sighs*
From behind, a hand grabs Timon and starts to drag him into a hole in the ground. He resists, but is eventually pulled underground. It is revealed that the hand belongs to Ma.
Ma Get in here! What are you, a [Ma shakes Timon.] meshugginah?
Several meerkats dive for cover in a hole in the ground, while Ed snaps at them.
Meerkats *whimper* [Ed continually misses the meerkats, who slip by him to safety.] *screams* Whoa!
Uncle Max runs for the hole, but Ed covers it with both paws and grins evilly.
Ed *laughs*
Uncle Max skids to a halt.
Uncle Max *gasps*
Ed grins down at Uncle Max, tongue lolling.
Ed *laughs*
Underground, the colony gathers in a tense huddle around Ma and Timon.
Ma Stumpy?
Stumpy [from offscreen] Here!
Ma Flinchy?
Flinchy [from offscreen] Here!
Ma Swifty?
Swifty [from offscreen] Here!
Ma rubs her forehead.
Ma Oh, what a relief. Everybody's... *gasps* Where's Uncle Max?
Uncle Max runs from Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed.
Uncle Max *screams*
Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed *yip*
Several meerkats emerge from a hole in the ground and spot Uncle Max.
Meerkats *gasp*
Uncle Max dodges several attacks from Shenzi and Banzai.
Meerkat Max! Run for your life!
Meerkat [from offscreen] Play dead!
Meerkat [from offscreen] Ándale!
Meerkat [from offscreen] Almost there!
Suddenly, the screen changes to the QVC shopping channel, where two women are selling a suede handbag.
Woman Suede is the look for this fall. [in the background] Of course, that is what's happening up in every magazine. What I like about it, other than you've got that long strap, which can clear your coat...
Timon and Pumbaa sit side-by-side in the theater.
Timon Hey, what's goin' on? [Timon turns to Pumbaa.] Pumbaa, you're sitting on the remote.
Pumbaa looks back and forth.
Pumbaa Huh? Oh, sorry. [Pumbaa lifts the remote.] I thought it was a brownie.
Pumbaa clicks the remote, and the movie resumes, with Uncle Max fleeing the hyenas.
Uncle Max *screams*
Meerkat [from offscreen] You've got it, Max!
Uncle Max [from offscreen] *grunts*
The meerkats flinch.
Meerkats Awww!
Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed [from offscreen] *chew*
Below ground, the colony looks on sadly. Suddenly, Uncle Max falls into the tunnel, with the fur missing on his tail and backside.
Uncle Max *grunts*
The colony looks up in shock.
Meerkats *gasp*
Meerkat [from offscreen] Max!
Uncle Max painfully eases himself up on both hands. The colony gathers around him expectantly. He lifts one paw.
Uncle Max I flinched when I should've scurried.
Uncle Max collapses.
Meerkats [from offscreen] *mutter*
Meanwhile, Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed saunter off into the sunset.
Banzai *laughs* Oh, man! It just never gets old, does it?
Shenzi Ooh, the classics never do, honey.
Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed *guffaw*
Below ground, the meerkats gather around Uncle Max. Several hold up his arms, while one fans him.
Meerkats *mutter*
Timon [from offscreen] I, uh... [The colony looks up and glares at Timon.] I guess I owe everyone an apology. [Timon claps his hands awkwardly.] All right, so I made a teensy mistake. Like we all haven't broken into song on sentry duty before. [The meerkats file away unhappily.] *chuckles* Come on. [Timon raises one hand.] Let me have a show of hands. [Timon looks back and forth expectantly.] Okay... [The meerkats glare back at Timon. Ma looks at Timon with concern.] Maybe it's a little too soon, but I'm sure we're all gonna laugh about this someday. [Timon gestures to himself with both hands.] Trust me.
Uncle Max glowers at Timon.
Uncle Max I did trust you.
Uncle Max looks away. Timon's face falls.
Timon But...
The meerkats file away. Timon watches them go sadly. Soon, only Ma is left. Timon turns his back on her.
Timon *sighs*
Timon walks off. Ma holds out a hand, as if to stop him, then lowers it. The scene transitions to the savanna at sunset. Ma pokes her head out of a hole in the ground and looks around. Timon sits on a rock atop a hill. Ma watches him for a moment before approaching.
Ma *sighs* Oh. [Ma pauses next to Timon's rock.] Awww, sweetie.
Timon turns around.
Timon I'm never gonna fit in here. [Timon slides to the ground.] Nobody even likes me.
Ma walks around the rock to Timon.
Ma Sure they do, honey. Sure they do!
Ma reaches for Timon.
Timon Besides you, Ma.
Ma pauses and draws her paw back.
Ma Uh, besides me? Um, there's, uh...
Timon I have to find my place, but it isn't here.
Timon starts to walk away, but Ma grabs him by the shoulders and forces him to sit.
Ma Yes, it is. We just haven't found it yet. [Ma starts to comb Timon's hair.] But we will... Oh, here's an idea. You can run a trail–
Timon ducks away from Ma and marches away.
Timon Stop with the hair already. [Timon strides to the top of the hill, overlooking the open savanna.] My place is out there, Ma. Oh, I may not know exactly where or how far, but I gotta go!
Ma approaches Timon from behind, gesturing urgently.
Ma No, wait, wait, wait. I know. If we just...
Timon Ma.
Timon walks off. Ma watches him go sadly.
Ma *sighs* Well, I hope you find what you're looking for, honey.
Timon's face lights up. He runs to Ma and embraces her.
Ma Ooh. Ooh, I love you. Mmm!
Timon I love you, Ma.
Ma hugs Timon so hard that he begins to slip until Ma is only hugging his head.
Ma Oh, Timmy. My Timmy. [Ma hugs Timon so tightly that his back cracks.] Mmm-mmm...
Timon [strained] Mom...
Ma Ooh.
Timon [strained] Choking... Not breathing...
Ma Ooh! Mmm, mmm, mmm!
Timon And people wonder why I have issues. [Timon and Ma break their embrace. They clasp hands.] I'll be okay!
Ma Oh, I know you will! You will. [Ma looks away. Slowly, Timon's hands pull away from hers. He smiles at her before marching off into the savanna. As he walks away, Ma calls after him.] Be careful!
Timon pauses.
Timon I will!
Timon continues walking.
Ma Don't talk to strangers!
Timon I know, Ma!
Ma Remember, wash behind your ears!
Timon frowns, his gait slowing. He stops and looks back.
Timon Ma, I'm not a kid anymore!
Timon continues walking.
Ma Never go swimming without a buddy!
Timon rolls his eyes. He waves a hand dismissively.
Timon Got it!
Ma [barely audible] Send us a message!
Timon slows, his shoulders slumping in exasperation.
Timon Oy. [shouting] What?!
Ma [barely audible] I said, send us a message!
Timon squints uncertainly. He holds a hand to his ear.
Timon [shouting] What?!
Ma [barely audible] I said, send us a–
Timon waves a hand dismissively and continues walking.
Timon Goodbye, Ma! [Timon keeps marching until he reaches an open grassy plain. He stops and stares in amazement. His voice is heard over footage of him marching across the plain.] And so, with high spirits, I boldly ventured off where no meerkat had dared to go before. I put my past behind me. Ha! And never looked back. [The scene transitions to nighttime. Timon stops and bursts into tears.] *sobs* Mommy! Mommy! Ah! Ha, ha! [A wide shot shows that Timon is standing beneath Rafiki's tree.] What am I doing? [Timon falls onto his knees.] *sobs* Which way should I go?
Rafiki hangs upside-down in front of Timon.
Rafiki That depends on what you seek.
Timon rears backward.
Timon Ah! [In the theater, Timon clicks the remote, freezing the frame so that he is in mid-fall onscreen.] How convenient. Enter omniscient monkey, right on cue.
Pumbaa Well, you know what they say. When the student is ready, the teacher appears.
Timon That's it. No more fortune cookies for you. [Timon clicks the remote, and the movie resumes. In the movie, Timon falls onto his back.] Hey, where'd you come from?
Rafiki *laughs* Oh, the better question is, where are you going?
Timon Oh, someplace [Timon gestures dramatically.] wonderful, mister, where...where y... [Timon points at Rafiki.] You didn't happen to catch the song I sang a few minutes ago, did ya?
Rafiki I didn't have the pleasure.
Timon To recap: [Timon drums his fingers against one another.] I want to live in some beautiful place. Outside. [Timon clasps his hands.] A carefree place where I don't have to hide or worry.
Rafiki drops onto the ground next to Timon, who backpedals a bit.
Rafiki Whoo! Hoo, hoo, hoo! [Rafiki leans casually on his staff.] Life without worry. [Rafiki lounges against his staff like it's a chair.] You seek Hakuna Matata.
Timon Harpoon a tomato?
Rafiki Hakuna Matata. It means "no worries."
Timon Perfect! Mind taking that [Timon points at Rafiki's staff.] stick of yours and [Timon mimics drawing in the dirt.] drawing me a map, bub? [Rafiki hits Timon with his staff. He is now sitting on Timon's other side.] Ow! [Timon rubs his head.] Hey!
Rafiki sits in a position of meditation, his eyes closed.
Rafiki To find it, you must look beyond what you see.
Timon What the heck is that supposed to mean?
From behind, Rafiki jabs Timon's head with a finger, turning it so he's poking Timon in the nose.
Rafiki It means, [Rafiki gestures to the open savanna.] look beyond what you see!
Timon stares. He imitates Rafiki's voice.
Timon Beyond what I see. Ha. Get a load of the monkey, gettin' all existential on me. Beyond what I see.
Rafiki looks at a frog sitting on a rock.
Frog *croaks*
Timon Hmm. [Timon looks farther, at a tree stump. The background music begins to swell.] Beyond what I see. [Timon looks farther, at a rockbed.] Beyond what I see. [Timon looks farther, at a tree on a hill.] It's kinda hard to think with all this music. Beyond...what I see... [Timon looks farther, to where Pride Rock is silhouetted against the moon.] Oh, wait a second. It's comin' to me. It's either that slug I ate, or I'm having an epiphany! I'm going to the big pointy rock! [Timon points up at Rafiki's tree. Rafiki is gone.] Right? [Timon rubs his head.] Who was that strange monkey? Ah, well. Dream home, here I come. [Timon marches toward Pride Rock. He enters an area of tall grass. A snapping sound causes him to freeze in his tracks. He looks behind him at the waving grass. He backs away fearfully.] Ah. Oh. Hello? [Timon backs up onto a rock.] Strange but wise monkey?
Crow [from offscreen] *caws*
A flock of Crows takes to the air. Timon watches, his chest rising and falling visibly. From behind, something approaches through the grass.
Pumbaa [from offscreen] *roars*
Timon wheels around.
Timon *whimpers* [A bulky shape moves through the grass toward Timon.] Oh! [Timon falls backward off the rock.] Oh!
Timon flees into the grass. He looks fearfully over one shoulder. The unknown creature pursues him.
Pumbaa *roars* [Timon keeps running until he runs straight into Pumbaa's snout.] *snorts*
Timon *screams*
Pumbaa *screams*
Timon *screams*
Pumbaa *screams*
Timon and Pumbaa *scream*
From offscreen, the remote clicks, and the movie pauses.
Pumbaa [from offscreen] You know, first impressions are very important.
Timon [from offscreen] Oh, I thought you were a scream.
From offscreen, the remote clicks, and the movie resumes.
Timon and Pumbaa *scream*
Timon and Pumbaa abruptly stop screaming. Timon falls onto his knees, clasping his hands.
Timon Just eat me now! And please make it fast. I got a low threshold for pain.
Pumbaa Easy, easy there, [Pumbaa ducks down to Timon's level. Timon lies prostrate, dramatically holding one hand to his forehead.] little guy. I'm not gonna eat you.
Timon looks up abruptly.
Timon What? You're not? [Timon grabs Pumbaa's snout indignantly.] Then why were you stalking me?
Pumbaa straightens, causing Timon to let go of his snout.
Pumbaa Well, gee, I saw you go by, and I figured a little fella like you [Timon glares up at Pumbaa with his arms crossed.] shouldn't be out here all alone.
Timon walks in a circle.
Timon Hey, what about you? You're all alone. [Timon looks around in sudden realization. He turns away from Pumbaa.] You are all alone, aren't you?
Pumbaa Yeah. Most animals give me a pretty wide berth.
Timon straightens, his eyes widening.
Timon They do? Even the hungry ones?
Pumbaa Yeah, [Timon turns around and strides toward Pumbaa, cracking his fingers.] I drive almost everyone away. [Timon inspects one of Pumbaa's hooves.] People see me comin', and they run for cover. [Timon opens and closes Pumbaa's toes like they're a pair of scissors.] They can't get out of the way fast enough.
Timon gingerly sets down Pumbaa's hoof.
Timon You don't say. You don't say. Must be the gleam on those [Timon grabs Pumbaa's tusks.] vicious tusks, huh? Strikes fear into their hearts.
Pumbaa Actually, they say I wreck their appetite.
Timon Wow, it's like you have this...this... [Timon advances on Pumbaa, rubbing his hands together deviously.] special power.
Pumbaa backs away as Timon advances on him.
Pumbaa Special power? Well, i-it's pretty [Pumbaa glances at his rear.] powerful, all right.
Timon points at Pumbaa.
Timon Perfect! You're hired.
Pumbaa [ecstatically] Great! [in confusion] For what?
Timon steers Pumbaa forward by one tusk.
Timon To get me to a little worry-free haven out by that big pointy rock.
Pride Rock is seen silhouetted against the dawn sky.
Pumbaa And... [Pumbaa ducks down to Timon's level.] you want me to come with you?
Timon *laughs* [Timon mimics looking around with a hand over his eyes.] Do you see any other big, lovable chunk of warthog here, who also happens to have [Timon leans on one of Pumbaa's tusks and raps it with his fingers.] razor-sharp tusks and the ability to repel predators?
Timon grins up at Pumbaa.
Pumbaa I'm your pig.
Timon climbs onto Pumbaa's snout.
Timon You and me, I can tell... [Timon leans down toward one of Pumbaa's eyes.] We see eye to eye.
Pumbaa You mean, [Pumbaa straightens.] like friends?
Timon backs up, holding up his hands.
Timon Whoa, easy there, big fella. I'd say more like [Timon hops to the ground. He makes quotations with his fingers.] "acquaintances."
Pumbaa Oh. [brightening] Well, it's a start.
Timon offers his hand to Pumbaa.
Timon Put 'er there, acquaintance. [Timon and Pumbaa shake hands.] I'm Timon.
Pumbaa [emphatically] Pumbaa!
Timon No, really. [Pumbaa grins at Timon, with cricket chirps in the background.] All right, then. [Timon walks off.] Let's hit the road.
Pumbaa You got it...acquaintance.
Pumbaa follows Timon, who walks backward toward Pride Rock.
Timon So, clear up one thing for me. [Timon turns around and walks forward.] If you weren't gonna eat me, what kind of a wacky wild pig are you?
Pumbaa strides up to walk alongside Timon.
Pumbaa I'm an insectivore.
Timon pauses and puts his hands on his hips.
Timon Oh-ho! A bug-eater! [Timon and Pumbaa continue walking.] Well, me too. I just never had a name for it. I'm kinda partial to the crawly critters myself. How about you, big boy?
Pumbaa I prefer the ones with wings.
Timon Pumbaa, this could be the start of a beautiful...acquaintanceship.
The scene transitions to the open savanna at dawn. The sun rises, turning the sky from black to red.
Lebo M   Nants ingonyama bagithi baba.
Timon and Pumbaa walk across the savanna.
Pumbaa [voiceover] Okay. So, now, we're back at the beginning. Right, Timon?
Lebo M   [in the background] Sithi uhm ingonyama. Ingonyama.
Timon [voiceover] Oh, you got that right, pally.
Lebo M   [in the background] Nants ingonyama bagithi baba.
Timon [voiceover] At last, things were looking up. I had the sun on my shoulders, the wind at my heels, a song in my heart.
Lebo M   [in the background] Sithi uhm ingonyama. Ingonyama.
A massive crowd of Pride Landers races toward Timon and Pumbaa.
Pride Landers *bellow*
Timon and Pumbaa flee offscreen.
Timon and Pumbaa *scream*
Pumbaa, with Timon in his mane, follows the crowd offscreen.
Timon [voiceover] And to protect me: a great big fat guy!
Pumbaa clicks the remote, and the movie pauses. In the theater, Pumbaa regards Timon.
Pumbaa You really think I look fat?
Timon Ugh. Pumbaa, Pumbaa, Pumbaa. You're a pig. It's a compliment!
Pumbaa Oh-ho-ho. Thank you!
Pumbaa clicks the remote, and the movie resumes. The sun rises over the savanna.
Carmen Twillie   Ingonyama nengw' enamabala. [Pumbaa, with Timon in his mane, crests a hill and overlooks Pride Rock.] Ingonyama nengw' enamabala. It's the Circle of Life! And it moves us all!
Pumbaa bounds down the hill toward Pride Rock.
Timon Whoo-hoo! There it is. The big pointy rock! Oh, baby, we're almost there.
Carmen Twillie   [in the background] Through despair and hope...
Pumbaa skids to a halt.
Timon and Pumbaa *gasp*
A crowd of Pride Landers is seen gathered below Pride Rock.
Pumbaa I think we're a little late.
Timon It's a land rush. That loudmouth monkey! He must've blabbed it to the whole world!
Pumbaa What exactly did he say?
Timon assumes a meditative pose and imitates Rafiki.
Timon Look beyond what you see.
Pumbaa So, maybe you're supposed to look beyond the big pointy rock.
Timon Maybe I'm supposed to look beyond the big pointy rock!
Pumbaa Hmm?
Timon Well... Let's have a little look, shall we? [Timon shades his eyes with one hand and peers at the crowd. Rafiki is seen approaching the promontory with Simba in his arms.] Beyond what I see... Beyond what I see... [Timon fixates on a watering hole beyond the crowd.] Beyond what I see... Oh-ho! What do you know? The monkey's got an eagle eye for real estate!
Pumbaa [indicating Rafiki on Pride Rock] Timon, look!
Timon He-he-hey! It's the monkey!
Pumbaa What's that he's holdin' up?
Timon Awww, who cares? It's not important. [Timon hops to the ground.] Come on! My dream home awaits.
Timon walks toward the crowd, followed by Pumbaa. Timon starts to march into the crowd of animals, while Pumbaa hesitates at the edge of the throng.
Pumbaa Uh... I don't do so well in crowds. [Pumbaa backs away.] Maybe we better go around.
Timon approaches Pumbaa.
Timon Don't you know the shortest distance between me and my dream home is a straight line? [Timon grabs Pumbaa by the tusk and tows him toward the crowd.] Follow me!
Several Pride Landers flinch as Timon and Pumbaa bull through the crowd.
Pride Landers Oh! Excuse me! Ow! Hello! Goodness!
Timon Make room! Make room! Watch it, twiggy. I'm walkin' here!
Cape buffalo *snorts*
Pumbaa trails uncertainly behind Timon. Many animals turn and glare at him. His stomach gurgles, and he pulls up short, then sits, holding his stomach.
Pumbaa Ahem. Timon? [Timon pauses and looks back at Pumbaa.] There's something I gotta tell ya.
Timon strides back toward Pumbaa, shaking his head.
Timon Pumbaa, Pumbaa, Pumbaa. We'll have a plenty of time to [Timon grabs Pumbaa by the tusk and tows him deeper into the crowd.] chat once we settle in.
Pumbaa's stomach gurgles again.
Pumbaa I could really use a rest stop.
Pumbaa turns back abruptly, but Timon blocks his path, grabs him by the tusk, and tows him deeper into the crowd again.
Timon Don't worry. You'll get your second wind.
Pumbaa's stomach gurgles again. He breaks out in a sweat.
Pumbaa Oh! I got a really bad feeling!
Timon It'll pass. Trust me! [Pumbaa turns back abruptly.] It'll pass.
Timon grabs Pumbaa by the tail, tugging it. Pumbaa releases a massive fart.
Elephant *trumpets*
A gas cloud passes among the Pride Landers, who begin to faint around Timon and Pumbaa.
Pride Landers *cough* [More animals collapse.] *groan*
A zebra looks back at the passed-out animals.
Zebra Oh, look. The rhinos are bowing.
The zebras bow.
Zebra Ooh, we'd better bow, too.
The Pride Landers at the front of the crowd bow to Simba. On Pride Rock, Zazu stands next to Mufasa and Rafiki, who is still holding Simba aloft.
Zazu Look, sire, [Mufasa glances at Zazu.] how they kneel before the royal son.
Mufasa smiles. Timon and Pumbaa stand in an open patch, with animals collapsed around them.
Pride Landers *groan*
Timon stares in shock. One of his hairs is on fire. He looks up at it as it burns down, then fizzles out. He looks at Pumbaa in shock, but his expression quickly turns to joy.
Timon So, I guess [Timon puts his hands on his hips.] that's your special power, huh? [Timon punches the air.] What a weapon!
Pumbaa Uh, you mean, uh, you don't mind?
Timon *laughs* Are you kidding? It was a gas! [Timon collapses against Pumbaa and bangs on his side.] *laughs*
Pumbaa Well, I don't like to toot my own horn...
Timon straightens.
Timon Yeah, that's probably for the best. Let's go, Pumbaa!
Timon walks offscreen. Pumbaa follows him.
Pumbaa Lead the way!
Timon and Pumbaa march past the collapsed animals, while Rafiki continues to hold Simba atop Pride Rock. The scene transitions to evening. Pumbaa peeks out of a rock shelter in the ground.
Timon [from offscreen] This is it, buddy boy. [Pumbaa squeezes out of the shelter.] Home, sweet home! [Timon works to string a vine between two trees.] And I don't gotta share it with anybody. [Timon climbs onto Pumbaa's back and tosses his vine around the other tree.] *laughs*
Pumbaa Don't you get, you know, lonely out here?
Timon Lonely? [Timon knots the vine.] Try commitment-free. [Timon climbs into his self-made hammock.] The elbow-to-elbow life reminds me a little too much of home. This place has everything. [Pumbaa hands Timon a drink.] Cool refreshments, cozy little hammock, a lovely water feature. And it's all mine.
Pumbaa [crestfallen] Oh. Well... It's really coming together, Timon. So, uh, [Pumbaa starts to walk away.] so, I guess I'll just be going.
Timon watches Pumbaa walk away.
Timon Wait a minute, now. Wait-wa-wait. There's no law that says you have to go. [Pumbaa rushes back to Timon.] I mean, if you want...
Pumbaa Ooh, great! I already made up two beds! [In the shelter, there are two nests, one of which is larger than the other.] One for you and one for me.
Timon strides toward the nests, stretching.
Timon *yawns* [Timon hops onto the rim of the smaller nest and stretches.] *yawns* Ooh! Gee, all this construction work has me bushed. Think I'll turn in early. [Timon hops into the bigger nest and lies down. He stretches.] Ah! [Timon folds his arms behind his head.] Yeah. *smacks lips*
Pumbaa watches Timon uncertainly. He glances down at the smaller nest. He pats it, circles it several times, then settles down, clearly far too big for it. After a moment, he tips onto one side.
Pumbaa Ah! Good night.
Timon Sleep tight.
Pumbaa Dream of bedbugs tonight. *snores*
Timon Ah! [as a voiceover] Home, sweet home indeed.
The scene transitions to early morning. Timon lies asleep in his nest.
Timon and Pumbaa *snore*
Overhead, there is the sound of distant singing.
Timon *groans* [Timon turns over, holding his ears. He sits up groggily.] Ugh.
Timon crawls out of his nest and walks toward the shelter's entrance.
Simba   [from offscreen, in the background] Everybody, look left! Everybody, look right! Everywhere you look, I'm...
Timon grabs a stick and starts banging it against the ceiling.
Timon Hey, keep it down up there!
Pumbaa We have neighbors? We should go say hello.
Timon keeps beating on the ceiling with his stick.
Timon Noisy neighbors. [Timon pauses.] There go the property values.
Timon marches outside, still armed with his stick. The savanna is bathed in pastel colors.
Pride Landers   Let's hear it in the herd and on the wing! Oh, oh! [Timon gapes up at a tower of animals.] It's gonna be King Simba's finest fling!
Simba   [from offscreen] Oh, I just can't wait to be king!
Timon Oh, perfect. We moved to the theater district! Get a load of these guys.
Simba   [from offscreen, in the background] Oh, I just can't wait to be king! Oh, I just can't wait...
Timon marches up to the animal tower and whacks an elephant on the foot.
Timon Knock it off!
Elephant *groans*
The animal tower begins to sway precariously. Pumbaa dashes for Timon.
Pumbaa Timon, look out!
Simba   [from offscreen] ...to be king!
The animals fall into a heap.
Pride Landers Ah!
Timon and Pumbaa duck for cover in their shelter.
Simba [from offscreen] I'm okay!
Pride Landers *groan*
Timon lies crushed beneath an animal.
Timon Oy. [Timon blows away a tail that is hanging in his face.] Show people.
The scene transitions to the open savanna. Timon rides on Pumbaa.
Timon Chin up, Pumbaa! [Timon cracks his neck.] Whoa! Our dream home's around here somewhere.
Pumbaa You know, Timon, I once came across a place that might be just what you're looking for. [Pumbaa's voice is heard over footage of a lush jungle.] Spectacular waterfalls, [The footage shows Pumbaa diving into a pool.] set in a lush tropical oasis. [The footage shows a swarm of grubs.] A scrumptious array of...
Timon holds up his hands.
Timon Hey, hey, hey. Forget it, Pumbaa. I'm a realist, [Timon hops to the ground.] and I'm not gonna go chasing after some fantasy. [Timon makes a wide, sweeping gesture.] I'm goin' beyond what I see.
Pumbaa But if you always go beyond what you see, how do you know when you're there?
Timon Oh, I'll tell you how I know. We're there! [Timon's voice echoes. He gestures at his surroundings, and it is revealed that he and Pumbaa have wandered into the Elephant Graveyard. Pumbaa stares in awe. The two climb a hill and approach a giant elephant skull.] This is a lovely spot. Lovely, rustic, picturesque. Home, sweet home, Pumbaa. [Timon leans one-handed on one of the elephant tusks.] Mm-hmm. Home, sweet ho... [A chunk of the tusk gives way, and Timon topples inside the hollow bone.] *shouts* [Timon emerges with cobwebs dangling from his ears.] Whoop! *laughs* [Timon walks toward Pumbaa, dusting himself off.] I-I mean, sure... [Timon crawls onto the other tusk.] It needs a little work, [Timon wraps on the skull.] but it's got good bones. *laughs* After all, [Pumbaa joins Timon on the tusk.] this is an elephant graveyard. And who would ever come to an elephant graveyard?
Mufasa [from offscreen] *roars*
Timon and Pumbaa flee into the skull.
Timon and Pumbaa *scream*
Mufasa charges past, closely followed by Zazu.
Zazu Sire, the hyenas are after the children!
Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed [from offscreen] *yip*
Mufasa [from offscreen] *roars*
Timon and Pumbaa peek out of the skull's eye sockets. The shadow of Mufasa savagely fighting off the hyenas is seen.
Timon I see carnivores...
The scene transitions to the thermal vents in the Elephant Graveyard. Timon rides atop Pumbaa, shielding his eyes. He speaks with a nervous titter.
Timon Beyond what you see. Beyond what you see. *laughs* [Pumbaa hops from rock to rock across a bubbling green pool.] Beyond what you see...
Pumbaa Uh, Timon? [Pumbaa pauses on the other side of the pool.] Would this be a bad time to bring up that little place I told you about?
Timon hops onto the ground.
Timon Hey! This is home, sweet home, baby! [Timon lounges back on top of a geyser.] Home... [The geyser erupts, and Timon flies into the air.] *screams* [Timon lands and hops around in pain, his backside steaming.] Ow! Ha, ha! [Timon looks at the geyser.] Steam! *laughs* Steam is good. Steam is-is-is water. Whoo! [Timon prances away.] Gotta have water. You know, for the dream home. Steam home, dream home! [Pumbaa watches Timon go, one eyebrow raised.] Steam, steam, steam. [Timon sits on a nearby rock.] I am perfectly happy [Timon rolls the "r."] right here. [Timon stands.] It's remote, private, no unexpected visitors... ["Be Prepared" plays softly in the background, and the area turns bright yellow. Timon and Pumbaa freeze as the shadows of hyenas goose-stepping march past them on the wall.] Somethin' tells me this ain't the traveling company of "Riverdance."
Timon and Pumbaa hop to their feet and "Riverdance" offscreen. The scene transitions to Timon searching yet again.
Timon [snidely] Beyond what you see. Beyond what you... [Timon turns toward the camera and shudders.] Hey, how am I supposed to look beyond what I see [Cut to reveal that Timon is looking at Pumbaa's butt.] beyond that?
Pumbaa looks over one shoulder in confusion.
Pumbaa Huh? Oh, sorry.
Pumbaa moves out of the way to reveal the gorge. A choir sings in the background. The scene transitions to Timon and Pumbaa trudging through the gorge, with Timon using Pumbaa's shadow to shield himself from the sun.
Timon What this place lacks in water and shade, [Timon stops walking.] it makes up for with searing heat and blinding sunshine. Home, sweet home, Pumbaa. [The ground rumbles.] *whimpers*
A herd of wildebeests stampedes into the gorge.
Pumbaa [with an air of formality] Shall we run for our lives?
Timon Oh, yes, let's.
Timon and Pumbaa turn and run.
Timon and Pumbaa *scream*
Timon and Pumbaa flee, and the stampede slowly catches up to them. A dust cloud covers the screen, then clears to reveal Timon and Pumbaa on top of a wildebeest. They approach a cliff.
Pumbaa Hang on, Timon!
Timon *gasps* This is it! Goodbye, cruel world!
The wildebeest slides to a stop, and Timon and Pumbaa are thrown off its back. They fly through the air in slow motion.
Timon and Pumbaa *scream*
Pumbaa does a flip before landing back-first in a river. Timon lands on Pumbaa's stomach.
Timon *grunts*
Timon and Pumbaa float down the river. Timon gestures to the riverbank.
Timon That's it? *scoffs* That wasn't so bad. [The sound of a waterfall begins to intensify.] You can't knock old Timon down that easy! Yeah! Bring it on! [The sound of a waterfall intensifies further. Timon looks to the right, and the camera pans to reveal a steep waterfall dropoff.] Uh, Pumbaa? Question: is it possible to fall off the edge of the Earth?
Pumbaa Uh, technically, no. [Timon and Pumbaa float toward the edge of the waterfall.] The Earth is round like a sphere, Timon, so it doesn't actually have an edge.
The camera zooms out several times to reveal a tall waterfall. Timon and Pumbaa fall off the waterfall.
Timon and Pumbaa *scream*
Pumbaa pauses the movie.
Pumbaa You mind if I pause it for a second?
Timon Sure, go ahead.
Pumbaa Be right back.
Pumbaa walks offscreen. Timon stretches.
Timon *sighs contentedly* [Timon's back cracks. He scratches his ear.] *sniffs* *clears throat* *hums "It's a Small World"*   It's a small world after all. [Timon dances in his seat.] It's a small world after all. [Timon's dancing intensifies.] It's a small, small world. Everybody. It's a small world after all. [A toilet flushes in the background.] Da, da, da, da, da, da, da.
Timon picks his nose. He looks offscreen.
Timon *gasps*
Timon looks around frantically. He tries to shake his booger off his finger, then scrapes it off on a chair. Pumbaa walks back onscreen holding a bag of grubs.
Pumbaa Okay. I got the jumbo so we can share. [Pumbaa sets down the bag of grubs. He looks suspiciously at Timon.] Were you just picking your nose?
Timon [indignantly] No! [Timon reaches into the bag for a grub.] I had an itch on the inside. [Timon grabs a grub and pops it in his mouth.] *crunches*
Timon resumes the movie. Timon and Pumbaa continue to fall down the waterfall.
Timon and Pumbaa [fading] *scream*
The scene transitions to a river at night. Pumbaa bursts out of the water and swims toward land. He emerges from the water with Timon hanging on to his tail with one hand. Pumbaa walks further onto land.
Pumbaa *gasps*
Timon lets go of Pumbaa's tail. Pumbaa falls over and coughs up water. He looks to the left, where Timon is laying on the ground, holding a flower. Pumbaa approaches him.
Pumbaa Timon, you okay?
Timon Ugh. I give up.
Pumbaa Uh, but you can't give up. We still haven't found our dream home.
Timon Forget it, Pumbaa. I've been dragging you down long enough. I'm going home, and I suggest you do the same.
Pumbaa Oh, I–I would if I could, but I can't.
Timon Oh, sure you can, buddy. I won't stop you.
Timon looks at Pumbaa uncertainly.
Pumbaa No, I mean... [Pumbaa looks away.] I don't have a home.
Pumbaa begins to walk away. Timon looks up.
Timon You don't? What happened? [Timon sits up. Pumbaa sits down with his back to Timon.] Are you lost? [Pumbaa shakes his head.] No place good enough for you? [Pumbaa shakes his head. Timon throws his flower aside.] What, you're all alone in this big empty world? [Pumbaa looks over one shoulder with tears in his eyes.] Oh. [Timon stands up and walks over to Pumbaa's hunched form.] The truth is...I'm all alone too. [Pumbaa looks down at Timon. Timon grabs Pumbaa's leg.] Pumbaa, you're the only friend I've ever had.
Pumbaa turns toward Timon hopefully.
Pumbaa Y-you mean...
Timon Yeah, Pumbaa...and friends stick together to the end.
Timon and Pumbaa smile at each other. Crying sounds are heard. The camera zooms in on Pumbaa's eyes, where Timon's reflection is visible. Timon pauses the movie. He attempts to muffle his crying.
Pumbaa Timon, are you crying?
Timon [sobbing] I'm fine. [Timon turns away from Pumbaa and continues crying.] I–I just have something in my eye.
Pumbaa proffers a handkerchief.
Pumbaa Here, blow.
Timon grabs the handkerchief and blows his nose. He hands it back to Pumbaa.
Timon Here, Pumbaa.
Pumbaa looks at the handkerchief in disgust.
Pumbaa Gee, thanks.
Timon Okay, I'm better.
Timon resumes playing the movie. The scene transitions to the night sky with a full moon. A shooting star flies by. The camera pans down to show Timon and Pumbaa sleeping against one another. The sun rises. Timon wakes up and stands up. He stretches, and his back cracks.
Timon Uh! Uh! Ooh! Ah, well. [Pumbaa begins to wake up.] It's too bad we never found that perfect place. [Pumbaa wakes up fully and looks forward. Whatever he sees surprises him.] Why'd we ever listen to that stupid monkey?
Pumbaa sits up.
Pumbaa I think maybe you're giving up too soon, Timon.
Timon Beyond what you see. Huh?
Pumbaa grabs Timon's head and turns it. The camera pans to show a jungle paradise.
Pumbaa Remember that place I told you about?
Timon Forget about your place. Get a load of what I found! Talk about beyond what you see. Pumbaa, this is our dream home. [Timon pulls back a curtain of leaves from in front of the waterfalls in the style of a game show.] Dramatic views. [Cut to Pumbaa hanging from some vines belly up.] Your very own porch swing. [Cut to Timon and Pumbaa in a bubbling pool.] Hot tub and spa. [Cut to Timon opening the trunk of a tree filled with grubs.] Well-stocked cupboard.
Pumbaa walks over.
Pumbaa *slurps* [Pumbaa licks up the grubs and begins munching on them.] Let's celebrate!
Pumbaa swallows. Cut to Timon lying in a hammock.
Timon The monkey was right. [Timon stands up.] We found it: the perfect life.
Timon leans backward and falls into the water. Cut to Pumbaa making a shish kebab out of grubs.
Pumbaa I'll just whip up a little something.
Timon emerges from the water. He grabs a leaf and uses it as a towel.
Timon He had the perfect name for it too.
Pumbaa shakes up a grub salad.
Pumbaa Come and get it.
Timon leans against a rock table.
Timon Such a wonderful phrase. It had this rhythm. Laduda ladada.
Pumbaa holds out a leaf dish.
Pumbaa Try this: hot tuna frittata.
Timon Hmm. No, that's not it.
Pumbaa sets down another bowl of grubs.
Pumbaa The spinach armada.
Timon Quiet, Pumbaa. I'm trying to think.
Pumbaa sets down a coconut filled with grub mush.

Pumbaa holds out a bowl of grubs.
Pumbaa Legumes on a platter.
Timon taps his head.
Timon Think, think, think, think...
Pumbaa pokes at one of the dishes.
Pumbaa This ought to be hotter.
Timon I forget!
Pumbaa starts to dance.
Pumbaa I got to lambada!
Pumbaa bumps into Timon, who grabs him by the tusks.
Timon Hey, how can you dance at a time like this?! I'm dying here. [Timon looks abashed and backs away.] Ooh, sorry about that, pal.
Pumbaa stands up.
Pumbaa Hakuna matata.
Timon shakes his head in confusion. A cartoonish "obbidy-obbidy-obbidy" sound effect is heard.
Timon Come again?
Pumbaa Hakuna matata. It means "no worries." Uh... Oh.
Timon and Pumbaa exchange incredulous looks. Cut to Timon and Pumbaa swinging on vines. The movie pauses mid-swing.
Pumbaa [voiceover] Hey, Timon. I got an idea. Let's do a sing-a-long.
A ladybug appears onscreen.
Timon [voiceover] Oh, you tease. I love karaoke. I'm there.
The lyrics of "Hakuna Matata" appear on the bottom of the screen. The ladybug hops from syllable to syllable above the lyrics as the song continues.
Timon and Pumbaa   Hakuna matata! [Cut to Timon and Pumbaa lying in the grass and dancing.] What a wonderful phrase. [Cut to Timon and Pumbaa making coconut drinks.] Hakuna matata! [Cut to Pumbaa running through the jungle, with Timon riding in his mane.] Ain't no passin' craze.
The ladybug disappears. Cut to Timon and Pumbaa swinging on vines.
Timon   It means no worries [Crunching sounds are heard. The camera zooms out to show the silhouettes of Timon and Pumbaa in the theater. Timon is singing into a microphone, while Pumbaa chews loudly.] for the rest of your days.   Wait a second. [Timon looks around and pauses the movie.] Pumbaa, where's the grub? [Pumbaa opens his mouth, and the ladybug stumbles out of it.] *sighs* Oh, you just can't help yourself, can you?
Pumbaa Sorry.
Timon Okay, but this time, show a little self-control.
Timon plays the movie. Cut to Timon and Pumbaa going down a water flume. The ladybug appears onscreen again and stumbles across the lyrics as the song continues.
Timon   Hakuna matata!
Cut to Timon and Pumbaa bungee-jumping on vines. They begin to plummet toward the jungle floor.
Timon and Pumbaa *scream* [Timon and Pumbaa bob on the vines just before hitting the ground. They begin to swing back and forth, and Timon bumps the ladybug off the screen mid-swing.]   It means no worries [Pumbaa swings and bumps into Timon. Cut to Timon and Pumbaa floating through the air on leaf parachutes.] for the rest of your days. It's our problem-free [Cut to Timon and Pumbaa eating worms. They each eat an end of a worm until their mouths meet a la Lady and the Tramp.] philosophy. [Timon and Pumbaa look at the camera in disgust.] Hakuna matata! [Cut to Timon and Pumbaa dancing across a log.] Matata, hakuna, matata, hakuna, matata, hakuna, matata, hakuna, matata, hakuna, matata, hakuna, matata!
The scene transitions. Ma stares in dismay.
Ma Hahuna ma-what-a?
Rafiki kneels on the ground next to Ma, who is standing on the sentry rock.
Rafiki Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho! It means "no worries."
Ma I see.
Rafiki So, I told the boy: to find Hakuna Matata, [Rafiki gestures to the horizon.] you must look beyond what you see.
Ma Oh, a metaphor.
Rafiki Well, actually, it's not a meta– [Ma whacks Rafiki on the head with his staff.] Ah!
Ma grabs Rafiki by the beard and pulls him in close.
Ma You used a metaphor on Timon? He takes things literally! [Ma lets go of Rafiki's beard and starts gesturing wildly.] That's it. [Ma walks away from Rafiki.] He's starving out there. I just know it. [Ma approaches a meerkat hole and calls down into it.] Max, Timon's out there chasing metaphors! I've got to go find him!
Uncle Max [from offscreen] Are you nuts?!
Ma [to Rafiki] Nice to have a supportive family, isn't it? Well, here I go.
Rafiki holds up one finger.
Rafiki Remember, the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.
Ma Thanks. Here's my first step.
Ma jumps onto Rafiki's foot. The scene transitions.
Timon Yeow! [Pumbaa pulls porcupine quills out of Timon's backside.] Ay!
Pumbaa holds a quill in his mouth.
Pumbaa This bowling for porcupines [Pumbaa spits out the quill.] wasn't the best idea, huh?
Timon Yeah. Got to be right up there with bobbing for snapping turtles. [Pumbaa pulls out another quill offscreen.] Ah, ha, ha!
Pumbaa holds a quill in his mouth. He examines Timon's backside.
Pumbaa Oh, that's gonna leave a mark. [Vulture caws are heard. Pumbaa looks offscreen and spits out the quill.] Hey, look, Timon. Buzzards! [Pumbaa walks away. In a nearby desert, a parliament of vultures circles a limp body.] What do you say? One more round?
Timon Oh, sure. There must be some part of me we haven't injured yet.
Pumbaa trembles with excitement.
Pumbaa Oh, please? Oh, please? Oh, please? Oh, please? Oh, please? Oh, please?
Timon stretches and strides deeper into the jungle.
Timon Nah, Pumbaa, I'm beat. You go ahead. I'm calling it a day. [Timon pulls the last quill out of his backside.] Ay!
Pumbaa's face falls.
Pumbaa But it's no fun alone. [Pumbaa stares longingly at the vultures.] *whimpers*
Pumbaa starts to follow Timon. Suddenly, Timon jumps into Pumbaa's mane.
Timon Awww, why not? [Timon grabs Pumbaa's ears like they're reins.] One more run won't change our lives.
Timon and Pumbaa begin charging toward the vultures. The movie pauses.
Timon [voiceover] Who knows why fate led us to little Simba that day? [Cut to a still of Pumbaa holding Simba in his tusks while Timon clings to Pumbaa's ears worriedly.] Maybe it was just my love of adventure... [Cut to a still of Simba roaring and Timon jumping in fear.] or my innate courage... [Cut to a still of Simba licking Timon, who is reaching out for help.] my valiant [Cut to a still of Simba pinning Timon.] and fearless way [Cut to a still of Simba yawning and Timon jumping in fear.] of... [Cut to a still of Simba's shadow engulfing Timon, who is cornered against a rock.] Okay, who's [Cut to a still of Timon standing in fear. Simba's teeth ring the screen.] in [Cut to a still of Timon hanging on to a branch in fear.] charge of [Cut to a still of Timon screaming while leaning against Pumbaa's rear.] the [Cut to a still of Timon screaming.] freeze-frames?!
Pumbaa [voiceover] Sorry.
Timon [voiceover] Anywho... [Cut to a still of Timon and Pumbaa standing in front of Simba's unconscious body. The movie unpauses.] Rescuing Simba was a cinch. [Pumbaa picks up Simba in his tusks and walks toward the jungle.] Then came the really scary part... [Dramatic music is heard.] parenthood.
The scene transitions to Timon and Pumbaa sleeping in the jungle. The camera slowly zooms in on Timon.
Lebo M   In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight. In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight.
Simba [from offscreen] Timon. Timon. Timon!
Timon wakes up and yawns.
Timon Oh. Oh!
Cut to Simba's face upside-down.
Simba I got to go.
Timon Go? Go where?
Timon rolls over.
Simba You know, go...bad.
Timon rolls back over and sits up.
Timon Oh, go. Why didn't you say so? Come on! Let's go! [Simba and Timon run across the log.] When you got to go, you got to go! [The scene transitions. Timon and Pumbaa stand at the foot of a tree. "Jungle Boogie" plays in the background. Timon calls up into the tree.] Young lion, get down from there.
Simba jumps around in the tree's branches.
Simba Woo-hoo! All right! [Simba looks down.] Man, you guys look [Cut to Timon and Pumbaa. Timon looks stern.] like ants down there.
Timon I'm counting to three.
Simba jumps to another branch.
Simba Yahoo!
As Simba lands, the branch breaks, and he falls. Pumbaa looks on worriedly.
Pumbaa Uh-oh.
Simba plunges toward the jungle floor. Timon, not paying attention, counts on his fingers.
Timon One, two–
The music stops abruptly. Pumbaa jumps on top of Timon, and Simba lands on his back. From underneath Pumbaa, Timon holds up a third finger.
Timon Three.
Timon's arm falls limply to the ground. The scene transitions to Timon and Pumbaa sleeping in the jungle.
Simba [from offscreen] Timon.
Timon sits up, startled.
Timon Oh! Again?
Simba No. I'm thirsty.
Simba and Timon walk across the log.
Timon You know this means you'll be up again about two hours from now.
Cut to a large waterfall. "Jungle Boogie" plays in the background. Simba floats down a river on his back, while Timon swims after him frantically.
Timon Hang on, Simba! I'll save you!
Simba falls over the edge of the waterfall.
Simba Yahoo!
Pumbaa catches Simba by the tail. The camera zooms out to reveal that Pumbaa is sitting in a tree beside the waterfall. Meanwhile, Timon falls past Pumbaa and Simba.
Timon Whoa!
The scene transitions to Timon and Pumbaa sleeping in the jungle.
Simba [from offscreen] Timon?
Simba looks at Timon pleadingly. Cut to Simba and Timon walking across the log.
Timon We're going to get old walking across this thing.
Cut to Simba batting Timon in the air. "Jungle Boogie" plays in the background.
Timon Whoa!
The scene transitions to Timon and Pumbaa sleeping in the jungle.
Simba [from offscreen] Timon?
Timon jumps awake, exasperated.
Timon Ah! What have you got against the concept [Timon gets down from Pumbaa's stomach.] of a good night's sleep, huh?
Timon turns around with bloodshot eyes. Simba looks at Timon sadly.
Simba Actually, I, uh... I had a bad dream.
Timon's angry expression melts away.
Timon Oh, well...
Timon elbows Pumbaa in the side. He wakes up.
Pumbaa Uh! It wasn't me.
Timon points at Simba.
Timon Junior had a bad dream.
Pumbaa looks at Simba.
Pumbaa Oh. Why don't you sleep over here with us?
Timon pats Pumbaa's tummy welcomingly.
Timon Mi Pumbaa, su Pumbaa.
Simba bounds over to Timon and Pumbaa excitedly.
Simba All right!
Cut to a view of the log with no one on it.
Lebo M   The lion sleeps tonight.
Simba lies, curled, on top of Pumbaa. Timon lies next to him.
Simba Good night.
Timon Sleep tight.
Pumbaa Dream of bedbugs tonight.
Pumbaa instantly passes out.
Pumbaa *snores*
Simba *giggles*
Timon starts to sleep, but Simba grabs him and pulls him in close.
Timon *sighs*
Timon settles into sleep. The camera slowly zooms out from Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa.
Lebo M   My little darling. Don't fear, my little darling. Hey-a, oh, my little darling. Oh, don't fear, my little darling.   [Cut to a tree at dawn. Birds alight from the tree.]   Don't fear,

my little darling. [The camera begins panning downwards.] Hey-a, oh, my little darling.

Timon, Pumbaa, and a teenage Simba sleep together in the jungle. Simba stretches and yawns on Timon.
Simba *yawns*
Timon wakes up.
Timon Whoa. Watch where you aim that morning breath. [Timon looks at Simba and holds his nose.] That should come with a warning label. [Simba smacks his lips.] Woo, what a wake-up call.
Timon rolls over and closes his eyes.
Simba *chuckles* Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the warthog. What's the matter, Pops? Had a little too much [emphatically] hakuna matata?
Timon Ooh. Sonny boy, I invented hakuna matata.
Simba Oh, yeah? Well, I perfected it.
Timon continues lying down with his eyes closed.
Timon Sure you did, sure you did. Pumbaa, [Timon looks at Pumbaa.] who holds the record for the world's longest bug belch?
Pumbaa lies on his back with his eyes closed.
Pumbaa Uh, that would be Simba.
Timon glances at Pumbaa.
Timon All righty then. Who's the champion at slug swallowing?
Pumbaa Simba again.
Timon sits up in surprise.
Timon Cricket crunching?
Pumbaa Simba.
Timon Grub gulping?
Pumbaa Simba.
Timon begins to sweat.
Timon Maggot munching?
Pumbaa Still Simba.
Timon [desperately] Snail slurping?
Pumbaa opens his eyes.
Pumbaa Oh, uh, [Pumbaa sits up.] nobody. We never had a snail eating contest before.
Cut to a pile of snails. The camera pans to show the sun. "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" plays in the background. Simba and Timon face off at opposite ends of a massive pile of snails on a rock table. They each have a determined expression on their face. They flex their paws to the beat of the music. Meanwhile, Pumbaa sits in a bush, clearly worried.
Pumbaa I don't think this is such a good idea.
Simba grabs a snail and slurps it straight out of its shell, leaving slime all over his chin. He slams the shell down and leers at Timon, who yawns theatrically, then slurps down a snail of his own and folds his arms defiantly. Simba raises a paw with four snails, which he slurps down rapid-fire one after the other, then tosses the shells down and grins devilishly. Timon stares back in amazement, his eye twitching. Then he swallows four of his own, swats away the shells, and grins at Simba, a trifle insanely, breathing heavily. Cut to Pumbaa in the bushes, looking at one, then the other, like in a tennis match, as we hear slurps from one side and then the other in rapid succession. Finally, Pumbaa sinks down in trepidation, and the camera switches back to Simba and Timon, who are slumped against the rock table, only one snail left in front of each of them. In extreme perspective, Simba reaches for his final snail and shudders.
Simba *groans*
Simba slurps the snail down.
Simba *belches*
Simba tosses the shell away with a drunken smirk and rests his head on his paws. Timon looks uncertainly at his final snail. He picks it up, his belly bulging out over the edge of the rock. The snail in his hands morphs into Pumbaa.
Pumbaa snail I told you this wasn't such a good idea!
Timon gags. In slow motion, he throws the snail up in defeat and collapses backward onto the ground. His arm falls limply against the grass. In regular speed, the snail lands on the rock table and crawls away frantically. Cut to an overhead view of Timon lying on the ground. The camera slowly zooms out to show the large pile of snail shells next to him.
Pumbaa [voiceover] Thus did the pupil surpass the teacher.
Timon [voiceover] You've been hanging around with the monkey again, haven't you?
Pumbaa approaches Timon, looking concerned. He helps Timon stand.
Timon Uh. [Timon watches Simba swagger away.] Our Simba is growing up.
Timon and Pumbaa stare after Simba wistfully. Timon gesticulates holding a baby.
Timon   Is this the little boy I carried?
Pumbaa looks at Timon.
Pumbaa   When did he grow to be so tall?
Timon and Pumbaa   Wasn't it yesterday when he was small?
The scene transitions to a view of the sky. Timon floats up into the air.
Chorus   Sunrise, [At the peak of his flight, Timon does a split.] sunset. [Timon falls offscreen.] Sunrise, [Pumbaa floats up and, at the peak of his flight, poses like a ballerina.], sunset. [Pumbaa falls offscreen.] Swiftly [An adult Simba floats up and, at the peak of his flight, takes a casual pose. He falls back down.] fly [The camera follows Simba's fall to show him, Timon, and Pumbaa bouncing off a trampoline of vines. Simba grabs Timon and Pumbaa as they bounce back up.] the years, [At the peak of their flight, the three laugh, then fall back down. Cut to the three on their backs looking at the stars.] one season following another, [Cut to Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa hanging in vine hammocks while Simba lightly pushes his friends with his feet.] laden with happiness and tears.
The scene transitions to a bubbling pool in the jungle. Pumbaa and Simba relax in the water.
Pumbaa So, you see, that's why they call it a dung beetle.
Simba looks at Pumbaa in disgust.
Simba Ewww. You don't say. And yet still so tasty.
Pumbaa Oh, yeah, [Timon walks up to the edge of the pool, holding a leaf like it's a towel.] and they're my favorite too.
Timon throws the leaf aside and tests the water with his toe.
Timon Ooh! [Timon begins easing himself into the pool.] Ah. Ah.
Timon slides fully into the pool. He, Pumbaa, and Simba relax in the water.
Timon Just what the doctor ordered.
Pumbaa Yep. After a long day of doing nothing, it's good to kick back.
Simba Three pals and no worries. What more could you want?
Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa Ah.
Pumbaa *yawns* [Pumbaa stretches and rubs his backside.] I'm bushed. [Pumbaa starts to climb out of the pool.] Think I'll turn in for the night.
Pumbaa gets out of the pool, and the bubbles immediately stop. Pumbaa waddles away. Simba and Timon open their eyes and stare after Pumbaa. They look down at the pool in disgust, then at each other.
Timon I'm out.
Timon darts out of the pool. Simba does the same.
Simba Right behind you.
Pumbaa approaches his leaf bed. Simba and Timon run to join him. As the three slide into bed together, Simba gives Pumbaa a noogie.
Simba Oh!
Pumbaa Ah, ha, ha! You're killing me!
Timon tickles Simba.
Simba *laughs*
Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa snuggle together and close their eyes. Pumbaa looks at Timon.
Pumbaa Timon, it's your turn to say good night.
Pumbaa closes his eyes.
Timon Good night!
Simba glances at Timon.
Simba Sleep tight!
Pumbaa glances at Timon.
Pumbaa Dream of bedbugs tonight! [Pumbaa instantly passes out.] *snores*
Simba moves his paw so his head is resting on it, and Pumbaa gets comically squished. Timon lies with Simba's other paw over him. Simba moves it unconsciously, and Timon, realizing what is happening, grabs for it and snuggles with it again. The camera slowly zooms out from Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa.
Timon [voiceover] Ah. You go to admit, we had a pretty good thing going there.
Pumbaa [voiceover] We could've gone on like that forever.
Timon [voiceover] Except for one teeny, weeny, little thing we forgot to count on.
Cut to Nala pinning Simba to the jungle floor.
Nala *growls*
Simba Nala?
Nala stops growling and lets Simba up. Cut to Nala's face breaking into a grin.
Nala Whoa!
Simba [from offscreen] Whoa!
Simba and Nala nuzzle and bound around one another joyously. "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" plays softly in the background.
Nala How did you–
Simba How did you–
The camera zooms out to show Timon and Pumbaa watching Simba and Nala from the underbrush.
Timon This is a disaster, Pumbaa. [Timon looks at Pumbaa and gestures at Simba and Nala.] A disaster, I tell you!
Pumbaa looks at Simba and Nala, clasping his hooves happily, while Timon thinks.
Pumbaa You mean because they've finally found each other like two soul mates joined across the years by the bond of true love?
Timon rolls his eyes.
Timon Sweet, innocent little Pumbaa. She's gonna put a stake right through the heart of our Hakuna Matata!
Pumbaa Oh, then I guess we oughta do something.
Timon And I know just what it is. Pumbaa, we can't let them feel the love tonight!
The theme from Peter Gunn starts to play. Timon whispers into Pumbaa's ear. Pumbaa nods. They high-five. Simba and Nala run around a waterfall, then cuddle. Timon emerges from a nearby bush. He winks at the camera before disappearing back into the bush. A blowpipe emerges from the bush and blows a thorn into Nala's paw. She recoils.
Nala Ow!
Simba uses his teeth to pull the thorn out of Nala's paw. He smiles cheesily, then spits the thorn into the bush where Timon is hiding.
Timon [from offscreen] Ah!
Nala nuzzles Simba.
Sally Dworsky   Can you feel [Simba and Nala nuzzle.] the love tonight?
Cut to Timon and Pumbaa in a tree. The theme from Peter Gunn resumes. Timon whispers into Pumbaa's ear.
Timon [whispering] ...spider...
Pumbaa smiles. He and Timon high-five. Timon holds up a male spider, which blinks three beady eyes and grins devilishly at the camera. Timon drops the spider, and it begins to descend on a strand of web. The camera follows the spider as it heads toward Simba and Nala. However, as it passes a female spider, it halts abruptly, the music stops, and it zooms back up to where the female spider is. Simba and Nala nuzzle while the two spiders weave several heart-shaped webs behind them.
Sally Dworsky   Can you feel the love tonight?
Pumbaa looks down on the scene.
Pumbaa That's so romantic.
The camera pans to the right to show Timon wrapped in a cocoon of spider silk. The theme from Peter Gunn resumes.
Timon Ugh.
Simba and Nala walk side by side, nuzzling. Pumbaa runs in behind them, with Timon riding in his mane and holding a beehive. Pumbaa pulls to a halt, and Timon throws the beehive at Simba and Nala. However, since he threw it backwards, the bees remain buzzing in place behind him and Pumbaa. The duo watch Simba and Nala for a moment, then realize that the bees are behind them. The music stops. Simba and Nala continue walking together.
Timon [offscreen] *screams*
Sally Dworsky   Can you feel the...
Timon flees a horde of bees. Cut to Timon with several bee stings on his head, a black eye, and several teeth missing. The theme from Peter Gunn resumes. Timon, holding a vine, flashes a thumbs up at Pumbaa. Pumbaa, with a vine laying across the ground and around his snout, flashes an uncertain thumbs up at Timon. Meanwhile, Simba and Nala play on their hind legs. Timon and Pumbaa watch, with the vine laying on the ground between them. As Simba and Nala get close enough, Timon pulls the vine taut, and Nala trips on it.
Nala Whoa! Oh!
Simba and Nala roll down a hill. Timon and Pumbaa look at each other in despair as the vine gets pulled away by the lions, launching the duo into the air.
Timon and Pumbaa Wah!
Timon and Pumbaa fly through the air. Simba and Nala continue to roll down the hill until they reach the bottom. Timon and Pumbaa fly into a tree, disappearing into the leaves, and butterflies swarm out of the tree. The music stops.
Sally Dworsky   Can you feel the love tonight? [The butterflies flit around Simba and Nala as they nuzzle.] The peace the evening brings?
"Can You Feel the Love Tonight" plays softly in the background. Timon and Pumbaa fall out of the tree.
Timon and Pumbaa Ah! [Timon and Pumbaa land on the ground.] Oof!
Pumbaa sits up and taps a butterfly out of his ear. Timon sits up and looks at Pumbaa.
Timon Well, that worked like a dream.
Pumbaa looks at Timon optimistically.
Pumbaa It did?
Timon glares at Pumbaa.
Timon Sarcasm is a foreign language to you, isn't it? [Timon looks at Simba and Nala, and his eyes widen.] Look!
Simba and Nala nuzzle.
Sally Dworsky   Can you feel the love tonight?
Timon clasps his hands and widens his eyes.
Timon She's making those eyes.
Pumbaa He's smiling that smile.
Timon They're laughing...and hugging... [Timon's eyes well with tears.] and...and... [Timon and Pumbaa watch Simba and Nala embrace.]   And if he falls in love tonight...
Pumbaa *sniffles*
Timon   It can be assumed...
Timon and Pumbaa look at each other. Simba and Nala walk away in the background. Timon hugs Pumbaa, who pats him consolingly.
Pumbaa   His carefree days with us [Pumbaa's voice breaks.] are history.
Timon and Pumbaa   In short, our pal [Timon and Pumbaa each raise an arm.] is doomed.   [Timon and Pumbaa stare at each other, with tears in their eyes.] *sob*
The scene transitions. It is early morning, and mist has gathered between the jungle trees. The camera pans to show Timon and Pumbaa walking sadly in front of a waterfall.
Timon Ah, that's it, buddy. [Pumbaa sits.] We gave it our best shot, but [Pumbaa looks up in surprise.] he's a goner.
Pumbaa Maybe not.
Timon turns toward Pumbaa.
Timon You never give up, do you?
Pumbaa Look.
Pumbaa motions toward Simba and Nala, and Timon takes a look for himself. He squints, then opens his eyes in surprise.
Simba [offscreen] Listen, you think you can just show up and tell me how to live my life? You don't even know what I've been through!
Cut to Simba and Nala. Simba is striding angrily away from Nala.
Nala I would if you'd just tell me.
Simba Forget it!
Nala Fine!
Nala looks away angrily. Timon watches Simba as he runs away.
Timon [excitedly] Pumbaa, do you know what this means?
Pumbaa Uh, he can't express his feelings, and she has commitment issues?
Timon turns around, grabs Pumbaa's hooves, and dances around in a circle with him.
Timon We won. Ya, ha, ha! We split them up.
Timon runs offscreen. Pumbaa looks confused.
Pumbaa And, uh, that's a good thing? [Pumbaa follows Timon onto a grassy hill.] Uh, he seems to be taking it kind of hard.
Mufasa's head begins to form in some nearby clouds. Timon waves a hand dismissively.
Timon Yeah, I know. Look, I... Heh. [Timon and Pumbaa stop walking. Pumbaa sits.] But it's the best thing for us. I mean for him. [Timon sees Mufasa's fully formed head and shivers.] Ooh, let's go, Pumbaa. [Timon starts to walk away.] I think this storm's coming to a head.
Timon and Pumbaa head to bed. Timon starts to settle into bed.
Timon Hakuna Matata is safe at last, [Timon lies down on his back, his paws behind his head.] pal, because nothing's gonna take our boy away now.
Cut to a close-up of Timon.
Timon He's gone? What do you mean he's gone?
Nala faces Timon.
Nala It's just like the baboon said. The king has returned.
Timon and Pumbaa exchange baffled looks. Nala rolls her eyes.
Nala *sighs* You want me to go over it again?
Timon Yes, please, but be a dear and just skip to the part about Simba. Not that your childhood wasn't fascinating.
Nala Okay, look. Simba's the rightful king, but after he disappeared, Scar proclaimed himself the king and formed an alliance with the hyenas.
Pumbaa stares at Nala, enraptured.
Pumbaa [voiceover] Poor Simba. The treachery, the villainy, the sheer indescribable horror.
Timon stares at Nala in a thinking pose.
Timon [voiceover] Blah, blah, blah. Why is she toying with us? Oh, this crazy chick is gonna eat us.
Nala Simba has to go home to challenge his uncle and reclaim his rightful place as king.
Timon and Pumbaa stare at Nala. Crickets chirp. Timon blinks.
Nala [annoyed] Ooh, don't you get it? Simba needs us...now!
Nala runs away.
Timon He needs us? [Timon gestures angrily.] Then he shouldn't have left us! If he wants to run off and be "His Highness," well, I say [Timon turns his back.] don't let the branches hit you on your way out. Leave Hakuna Matata [Looking desperate, Timon turns back around.] to someone who appreciates it!
Timon makes a show of walking away.
Pumbaa But, Timon, it's not really Hakuna Matata without Simba.
Timon stops walking and turns around.
Timon What's gotten into you? Not Hakuna Matata? [Timon walks up a tree root to their bed.] That's crazy talk. Crazy talk, I tell you. Nothing's changed here. We had Hakuna Matata before Simba, [Timon turns around angrily.] and we've still got it now.
Pumbaa turns toward Timon.
Pumbaa We got to go help our friend, Timon.
Timon turns toward Pumbaa.
Timon Et tu, Pumbaa? You're just gonna walk away, [Timon turns away from Pumbaa, gesturing.] give up on all this? What happened to "Friends stick together to the end?" [Timon turns toward Pumbaa and gets in his face.] Huh, huh, huh?
Timon turns away and folds his arms.
Pumbaa [angrily] I was about to ask you the same thing.
Timon looks regretful for a moment before steeling himself once more. Pumbaa walks away. He pauses and looks back.
Timon I got everything I ever wanted right here.
Timon lies down in his bed. Pumbaa watches Timon sadly, but Timon continues relaxing, indifferent. Pumbaa's eyes tear up, and he looks down sadly. Finally, he shakes his head and runs away. Timon looks back at Pumbaa, miffed, and sits up in bed.
Timon Now, this is more like it. [Timon stands up. His voice echoes.] Elbow room. [The camera zooms out to show an empty jungle, excluding Timon. The camera zooms back in to Timon, who looks to the side, realizing that he is alone.] *sighs* [Timon sits down dejectedly.] Ugh. [Timon lays his head on his arms and knees.] Oh, boy, oh, boy, oh, boy. [Timon looks up sadly.] *sighs*   Hakuna matata. [dejectedly] What a wonderful phrase. [Cut to Timon sitting alone in the pool, wearing a fake smile. He sings weakly.] Hakuna [Cut to Timon hanging from the vines by himself.] matata. [Cut to Timon sitting on the log at night.] Ain't no passing craze. [Cut to Timon lying in the grass, Pumbaa's and Simba's places indented but empty.] It means...   Ugh. [Timon rolls onto his side.] No worries.
Rafiki [from offscreen] Hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo! [Rafiki dangles onscreen. Timon looks at him, annoyed.] Ha, ha!
Timon stands and holds up his hands to stop Rafiki from talking.
Timon You.
Rafiki Di–
Timon [interrupting] No.
Rafiki Bu–
Timon [interrupting] No. Don't say a word. I know what you're gonna say. [Rafiki hangs in the center of the screen. Timon moves to Rafiki's left, imitating him.] Did you find Hakuna Matata? [Timon paces back to Rafiki's right, acting like himself again.] Well, yes, I did. Thank you very much. *laughs* And I am happy. Happy, happy, deliriously happy. [imitating Rafiki] Ho, ha, ha! I see. Happy, is it? So, if you're so happy, why do you look so miserable? [Rafiki looks sardonically at the camera. Timon begins to act like himself again.] Miserable, you say? Why should I be miserable? Oh, I don't know. Maybe my two best pals in the world deserted me. Heh. They... They've headed off on some heroic mission. My friends [sadly] are gone. [Timon composes himself, having a moment of realization.] And my Hakuna Matata went with them. [Rafiki nods.] Would you mind? [Timon gestures to his head. Rafiki bonks him with his bakora staff.] Ay! Thanks. I'm glad we had this talk. *clicks tongue*
Timon runs offscreen. Rafiki looks at the camera.
Rafiki My work here is done.
Cut to a shot of the sun. The theme from "Busa" plays. Pumbaa runs slowly across the desert in a mock-up of the original movie. The camera transitions to a closer shot of Pumbaa. Timon comes running past Pumbaa, who pulls to a halt. Timon turns around timidly, and the two stare at each other.
Timon Friends stick together to the end.
Pumbaa *gasps*
Timon and Pumbaa run to each other. Sobbing, Pumbaa pulls Timon into a tight hug. Timon pauses the movie.
Timon What was with the running? If you can call that running.
Timon crosses his arms. Pumbaa turns to Timon.
Pumbaa I was giving you time to catch up.
Timon Awww, you big lug.
Timon hugs Pumbaa. He unpauses the movie. Pumbaa sets down Timon.
Pumbaa Hop on, buddy. [Timon hops onto Pumbaa's back.] We got a fight to catch.
Timon Let's whip some grass. [The camera pans upward to show the Pride Lands as Timon and Pumbaa run through the desert. Timon's voice is heard as a voiceover.] This is the stuff of legends: an epic struggle...the place where heroes are born. Pumbaa, this could be our finest hour. [Cut to the "Hawaiian War Chant" scene from the original movie. Timon dances in a hula costume.]   Luau! [Pumbaa sits nearby with an apple in his mouth.] If you're hungry for a hunk of fat and juicy meat, [Timon darts onto Pumbaa's back.] eat my buddy Pumbaa here because he...   [voiceover] Heh, heh. Let's just cut to the chase, shall we?
Pumbaa [voiceover] Oh, sure.
Cut to Timon and Pumbaa fleeing a group of hyenas.
Timon and Pumbaa *scream*
Timon and Pumbaa lead the hyenas into a cave.
Hyena [from offscreen] What the...
An explosion rocks the cave, billowing fumes into the open. The hyenas flee the cave.
Hyenas *scream*
Pumbaa strides out of the cave, Timon in his mane, and snorts proudly.
Timon *breathes deeply* I love the smell of Pumbaa in the morning.
Ma [from offscreen] Hey, hey, hey. [Timon and Pumbaa start. Ma and Uncle Max emerge from a tunnel underneath Pumbaa.] Move your tush, honey.
Pumbaa looks down, then moves out of the way.
Timon Ma? Uncle Max?
Ma Oh, Timmy!
Uncle Max Timon?
Timon slides down Pumbaa's snout to meet Ma and Uncle Max.
Timon What are you doing here?
Ma Looking for you! [Ma hugs Timon.] Awww. Mommy's here.
Uncle Max fingers the flower on Timon's head disapprovingly. Timon smiles at him sheepishly. He then breaks out of the hug with Ma.
Timon Well, let me introduce you to my best friend. [Timon gestures to Pumbaa.] Pumbaa, Ma, Uncle Max. Ma, Uncle Max, Pumbaa.
Pumbaa *gasps* Look, there's Simba... [Cut to Scar backing Simba along the promontory of Pride Rock.] and that must be his [Timon walks onscreen.] Uncle Scar.
Timon spectates.
Timon Oh, good, they're talking things out, [Timon turns toward the camera.] which is how it should be. You know, I have a feeling everything's going to be just fine.
Lightning strikes a bush below Pride Rock, setting it ablaze, as Simba slips off the edge of the promontory, barely holding on. Timon winces.
Pumbaa [from offscreen] Oh!
Timon [resigned] On the other hand...
Pumbaa [from offscreen] The hyenas are up there [Simba pounces on Scar, and the hyenas begin to move in.] protecting Scar. What do we do?
Timon Well, I've got a plan.
Ma How can we help?
Timon pulls Ma and Uncle Max in close.
Timon Ma, Uncle Max, you're going to dig a trap. We're going to need...dare I say it? [Timon looks at Uncle Max.] Tunnels. Lots and lots of tunnels. And, Pumbaa, you and me... [Timon walks toward Pumbaa.] we've got to get those hyenas away from Simba.
Pumbaa [excited] Ooh, ooh! And lure them into the trap?
Timon Ho, ho! Nothing gets past you! [Timon points at Pumbaa, then jumps onto his back.] Come on, Pumbaa. Let's ride.
Pumbaa races toward Pride Rock, with Timon in his mane, as Ma and Uncle Max watch.
Ma [thoughtfully] Something's different about Timon.
Uncle Max You think? [yelling, voice echoing] He's wearing a dress!
Lightning flashes as the scene transitions to Simba chasing Scar up Pride Rock. The hyenas pelt after Simba, who turns around and swats at them. The camera zooms out to show Timon and Pumbaa standing on a ridge above the hyenas.
Timon [yelling] Hey, Pumbaa. What do you call a hyena with half a brain?
The hyenas look over their shoulders at Timon and Pumbaa. Simba uses the opportunity to follow Scar.
Pumbaa Ha, ha, ha! Beats me, Timon. What?
Timon Gifted!
Timon and Pumbaa *laugh*
Shenzi and Banzai glare at Timon and Pumbaa.
Ed Ha, ha– [Banzai slaps Ed.] Ooh!
Banzai They're talking about us.
Ed rubs his cheek.
Shenzi For your last meal, [Shenzi steps forward.] you're gonna eat those words.
Timon and Pumbaa stand stock-still, then speed off, leaving behind dust cloud imprints of themselves. They run along a narrow ledge.
Timon and Pumbaa *yell*
Timon and Pumbaa jump to a lower ledge.
Timon Ma, I think we got their attention.
The hyenas round the corner. The camera pans down to show Uncle Max digging a tunnel, while Ma holds up the roof with sticks.
Uncle Max Digga tunnah. Digga tunnah. Digga tunnah.
Ma Not yet. Keep stalling.
Timon and Pumbaa stand nervously against a wall.
Timon Okay.
Khachaturian's "Sabre Dance" plays. Timon juggles sticks and dishes, while Pumbaa gestures toward him and grins. The hyenas stop dead.
Banzai You got to be kidding me.
The music stops. Timon stands, frozen, precariously balancing the sticks and dishes in his hands and on his nose.
Timon [nervously] Now, Ma?
Ma [from offscreen] Need more time, honey.
"Cancan" by Offenbach plays. Timon and Pumbaa squat dance. The hyenas stare in bewilderment, then glare at the duo. The music fizzles out.
Timon Uh, freestyle.
Hip-hop music plays as Timon and Pumbaa breakdance.
Shenzi Ooh, encore, [Shenzi claps.] encore!
Banzai No, no, no. [Banzai elbows Shenzi.] You mean entrée, entrée.
Shenzi No, you right. Let's just eat 'em.
The hyenas stalk toward Timon and Pumbaa. Timon twiddles his fingers in fear.
Timon Is it ready yet, Ma?
Ma [from offscreen] Not yet. Keep stalling.
Timon's teeth chatter, and he chews his fingernails. Suddenly, his face lights up. The hyenas continue to advance on Timon and Pumbaa. Timon waves his arms to stop their advance.
Timon Wait, wait, wait, wait. Hold on a second.
Timon walks toward the hyenas, who halt.
Pumbaa [confused] Uh, Timon? What are you doing?
Timon gets down on one knee, proposal-style.
Timon Shenzi Marie Predatora [Shenzi stares at Timon in surprise.] Veldetta Jacquelina Hyena...would you do me the honor of becoming [dramatically] my bride?
Pumbaa's mouth drops open in shock. Shenzi's mouth gapes open, and she stares at Timon.
Shenzi [regaining her composure] I don't think so.
The hyenas resume their advance.
Timon Shenzi Marie, please. I know what you're thinking. We're too different. [Timon begins to back up.] It'll never work. What will the children look like?
Pumbaa continues to stare, open-mouthed, in shock.
Shenzi Ooh, that violates so many laws of nature.
The hyenas advance on Timon and Pumbaa.
Timon Listen to me. [Timon and Pumbaa get backed up against the wall.] The problems of a couple of wacky kids like us don't amount to a hill of termites in this nutty Circle of Life thing. And so I ask you: if not now, when? If not me, who? I'm lonely.
Pumbaa taps Timon on the shoulder, his eyes welling with happy tears.
Pumbaa [choked up] Can I be your best man?
Timon looks at Pumbaa in confusion.
Banzai I say we skip the wedding and go straight to the buffet.
Ma emerges from a hole in the ground in-between Timon and the hyenas.
Ma Now?
Timon looks at Ma.
Timon Sure, if you're ready.
Ma turns around and sees the hyenas.
Ma Oh. [Ma goes back underground and peeks her head into a tunnel.] Now, Max, now!
The camera zooms out to show Uncle Max knocking down the sticks that are holding up the tunnel roof.
Uncle Max Hyenas in the hole!
The camera follows the sticks as they domino through the tunnel. A crack in the ground heads toward the hyenas, who look at it, confused.
Banzai Huh?
The hyenas back away, panicked, as the cracks advance.
Shenzi Ah!
The sticks domino through the tunnel until they get stuck on a rock. The cracks stop, and the hyenas pause. Ma and Uncle Max pop out of the hole near Timon and Pumbaa.
Uncle Max I need help. [Ma gets out of the hole.] It didn't work.
Banzai [from offscreen] Hey, it works for me. *laughs*
The hyenas advance menacingly.
Ma What are we going to do?
Timon stares at the hyenas in fright. The camera shows his point of view as he looks under Shenzi and notices a large crack in the ground. His face changes as he resolves himself. He marches toward the hyenas.
Shenzi What?
Ma, Pumbaa, and Uncle Max watch Timon in concern. Ma reaches out after Timon.
Ma Timon, no!
Timon dives into the crack beneath Shenzi and runs along the tunnel as Shenzi bites at him.
Banzai Let's get 'em.
Uncle Max hugs Ma in fear. Meanwhile, Timon continues to run along the tunnel and dives to break the stuck stick. The hyenas break into a run and jump at Ma, Pumbaa, and Uncle Max. Pumbaa's eyes widen.
Pumbaa *gasps*
Ma *gasps*
Uncle Max buries himself in Ma's arms. Shenzi jumps and lands just in front of Ma, Pumbaa, and Uncle Max before falling into a crack in the ground. The rest of the hyenas fall as well and tumble down an underground slide. Ma, Pumbaa, and Uncle Max watch in shock. They look up in time to see Simba throw Scar off Pride Rock. Ma, Pumbaa, and Uncle Max gather together on a ledge and look down on Scar.
Pumbaa I'd say Scar is down and out.
Uncle Max gestures happily, while Ma looks around in a panic.
Uncle Max We did it! We did it!
Ma grabs Uncle Max.
Ma Where's Timon? [Ma shakes Uncle Max.] Where's my baby? [Ma throws Uncle Max away.] He's hurt! Oh, no! Oh, no! [Ma grabs Pumbaa by the tusks.] He's dead! Or worse! [Timon climbs out of a hole in the ground behind Ma.] We've got to find him. We've got to find him.
Timon walks up to Ma.
Timon It's okay, Ma.
Ma grabs Timon and shakes him, her eyes squeezed shut.
Ma Oh, please. It is not okay! Don't you tell me it's okay! [Ma opens her eyes, sees Timon, and pulls away from him in shocked happiness.] *gasps* Timmy! [Ma hugs Timon.] Mm-mm! [Ma pulls away.] My son...the hero.
Ma grabs Timon's cheeks. She starts to fix his hair, then stops herself.
Timon You missed a spot.
Timon leans forward. Ma smiles and brushes dust out of his hair. Uncle Max stands beside Ma and Timon, tears in his eyes. He grabs Timon and crushes him in a hug.
Uncle Max That's so beautiful.
Timon [visibly choking] Choking. Not breathing.
The scene transitions to Pride Rock under a dark and cloudy sky. Rain falls, and thunder rumbles. The camera pans down to show Rafiki standing next to Pride Rock. He gestures with his staff to the promontory. The camera continues panning down to show Simba walking toward Pride Rock. Timon and Pumbaa approach him, and he turns to see them. They bow, but Simba pulls them into a hug instead.
Simba I couldn't have done it without you guys.
Simba pulls away and ascends the promontory of Pride Rock. Timon and Pumbaa watch with tears in their eyes.
Pumbaa That's our boy.
Pumbaa looks at Timon.
Timon Oh, I promised myself I wasn't going to cry.
Timon hugs Pumbaa and cries into his side. Meanwhile, Simba stands at the edge of the promontory.
Simba *roars*
Timon and Pumbaa watch Simba proudly.
Simba *roars*
Uncle Max and Ma smile. Timon, Pumbaa, Ma, and Uncle Max exchange glances. Ma looks at Timon.
Ma You've really come a long way, Timon. [Timon looks at Ma.] Did you find what you were looking for?
Timon I found a place that was beyond my wildest dreams...but it still wasn't home. [Timon looks at Ma, then walks over to her.] Let's go home, Ma.
Timon takes Ma's hand. The camera swivels around them, the background changing from the Pride Lands to the jungle. Ma's face fills with wonder.
Ma Oh!
Ma and Timon let go of each other's hands.
Timon Welcome to our new home: a predator-free environment.
Ma I got to hand it to [Ma turns toward Timon.] you, Timon. This place [Ma gestures around.] has everything.
Timon Well, now that we're all here, [Timon pats Ma on the back.] it does.
Pumbaa walks over, and Ma and Timon climb onto his snout. Pumbaa carries them away. Cut to Uncle Max and several meerkats doing yoga. Uncle Max lifts his arms over his head.
Uncle Max Crane... [The meerkats imitate Uncle Max. He lowers his arms and lifts one leg.] spreads its wings... [The meerkats imitate Uncle Max. They all turn toward the camera.] turns with dainty hands.
Cut to several meerkats standing on a root. One by one, they dive into a nearby pool.
Meerkats   Digga tunnah, dig, digga tunnah. [More meerkats dive into the pool.] We're never gonna dig another tunnah. Digga tunnah, dig, digga tunnah. [Several meerkats hold butterflies in a chorus line. They move the butterflies out of the way as they sing.] Nevermore, the hyena come. [Timon dances in a grub hat.] Sing the praises of brave Timon, [Timon spins, sending grubs flying.] the bravest meerkat [Grubs fall from the sky as meerkats lounge in leaf hammocks.] we've ever known. [Uncle Max holds a coconut filled with grub mush. He catches a falling grub.] Never dreamed he'd [Cut to clouds in the sky. Three meerkats fly into the air as they sing.] help Simba shine!
Pumbaa flies into the air.
Pumbaa   Proved it's cool to hang out with swine!
Cut to a log, with meerkats digging under it.
Meerkats   Accidentally [The meerkats pop up on the other side, their mouths full of grubs.] saved the day.
Timon gestures to himself.
Timon   Planned it so it would look that way.
Pumbaa stands at the top of a waterfall, with Ma and Timon in his mane. He jumps.
Meerkats   Brought us out of the dirt and sand, [Pumbaa splashes into the water and rides along the current.] led his family to the [Pumbaa falls off another waterfall.] promised land. [Timon, Pumbaa, and Ma dive into the water.] Sing the praises of brave Timon, [Timon swims for the surface, grinning at the camera.] bravest meerkat we've ever known.
Ma and Timon stand atop Pumbaa, holding each other. Pumbaa stands on Simba's stomach, while Simba floats on his back in the pool. Meerkats swim in two concentric circles around them. Meanwhile, on the banks, meerkats dance in a conga line, watch the festivities, play a game with a large grub, get fanned with leaves, paraglide with leaves, toast a coconut drink, and hang in vines.
Timon [voiceover] Well, that's it...the big wrap-up, the happy ending...the grand finale.
Pumbaa [voiceover] It's over already?
Timon and Pumbaa watch the movie in the theater.
Timon Well, Pumbaa, that's the thing about endings: they come at the end.
Pumbaa Ooh, can we watch it again?
Timon Pumbaa, we just saw it. [after a pause] Maybe tomorrow.
Ma's silhouette walks onscreen.
Ma Hey, what are you guys doing? [Pumbaa moves over to make room.] *gasps* You didn't tell me you were watching the movie. I want to watch too.
Timon Ma, we just finished. [Ma walks over to Timon. Pumbaa moves out of the way.] Show's over.
Ma grabs the remote.
Ma Well, you're just gonna have to rewind it.
Ma begins to rewind the movie.
Timon Ma!
Timon puts a hand to his head in exasperation.
Ma [yelling] Uncle Max, we're gonna watch the movie!
Timon Oh, no!
Uncle Max's silhouette walks onscreen. He is holding a bag of popcorn.
Uncle Max Hey, I brought extra butter!
Uncle Max sits down. Simba's silhouette walks onscreen.
Simba Hey, you guys are watching the movie?
Rafiki's silhouette comes onscreen, hanging from a vine.
Rafiki Hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo! Any story worth telling is worth telling twice.
Mickey Mouse's silhouette walks onscreen. He sits down.
Timon What the–
Snow White and the seven dwarves' silhouettes walk onscreen.
Snow White Oh, excuse me.
Bashful 'Scuse me.
Doc 'Scuse me.
Sleepy 'Scuse me.
Happy 'Scuse me.
Sneezy 'Scuse me.
Grumpy Get outta the way.
Timon Who is this crowd? [The silhouettes of Belle, the Beast, Mrs. Potts, and Chip appear on the left, while Hyacinth Hippo and Lady and the Tramp appear on the right. The Genie flies into a seat. Jasmine and Aladdin ride in on Carpet above the audience, then settle into seats next to Genie.] Hey, down in front!
The silhouettes of Stitch, Goofy, the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, and Donald Duck appear.
Stitch Aha!
Stitch jumps on top of Goofy.
Goofy Gawrsh!
Stitch jumps on top of the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, then Donald Duck, who tosses him away.
Stitch Aloha!
Donald Duck *squawks*
Donald Duck makes a fist at Stitch, who laughs and points at him. The silhouettes of Quasimodo and Pocahontas appear. The silhouettes of Peter Pan and Tinker Bell fly in.
Peter Pan *rooster crows*
Peter Pan sits. The silhouettes of the Lost Boys walk onscreen and pile on top of Peter Pan.
Lost Boys *exclaim*
Timon gets smushed in-between two larger characters.
Timon Watch it! [Timon tries to make room for himself.] Ugh! [The silhouettes of Mowgli on Baloo's head, the three gargoyles, Terk, Dumbo, Flora, Fauna, Merryweather, and Brer Bear appear. Timon gets squished between Terk and one of the gargoyles. He flies out of the row and lands near Pumbaa.] Okay, buddy, you win.
Pumbaa Sure you don't mind?
Pumbaa hands Timon the remote.
Timon Hakuna matata.
Somebody Shhh.
Somebody Sorry.
The movie finishes rewinding. Timon resumes playing it.
Pumbaa Uh. Timon... [The screen fades to black.] I still don't do so well in crowds.
The credits roll.
