The Dancing Elephant is a story from the Rafiki Remembers magazine collection. It was published in the 1990s as part of The Lion King: A Nature Fun and Learn Series.

Synopsis[]

Little Elephant's herd races away through the savanna. At first, Little Elephant's mother pleas with the other elephants to slow down for her son, but then she sees him jogging to keep up with the herd. Soon enough, he's not just running, but dancing.

Once he grows into an adult, Little Elephant continues to dance, but his movements begin to shake the savanna, and his fellow animals are forced to ask him to stop dancing. Begrudgingly, Little Elephant does, though he becomes a different animal, sad and empty. Unable to bear the depression of Little Elephant, the other animals concede that he may start dancing again, though they tell him to do all his dancing on a nearby rocky platform. Little Elephant is happy to comply.
