Termites are a species of grub native to the Back Lands, the Outlands, and the Pride Lands. They are preyed upon by aardwolves and honey badgers.
History[]
Termite infestation in the Pride Lands[]
“ | ” |
One night, the Lion Guard mistook a pack of aardwolves for hyenas, and Kion used the Roar of the Elders to banish them to the Outlands. With the aardwolves gone, termites began to overpopulate the Pride Lands. Eventually, while rescuing some bats from a collapsing tree, the Guard witnessed the collapse of several other trees in the vicinity and realized that the termites had become a widespread problem.

Termites collapse several trees near Mekundu Cliffs.
The Lion Guard consulted with King Simba about the problem, and he advised them to speak with the aardwolves, whom he referred to as "the Pride Lands' termite experts." Upon realizing that the aardwolves resembled hyenas, Kion confessed that he had accidentally banished them from the Pride Lands, and Simba encouraged him to fix his mistake.
Eventually, the Lion Guard tracked down the aardwolves and brought them back to the Pride Lands. With the aardwolves' help, the termite population was brought back under control. As a thank-you gift, the aardwolves sent a leaf full of termites to Bunga.[1]
Physical characteristics[]
Termites are small, oval-shaped grubs, with reddish-brown heads and beige bodies. They have antennae and large black eyes.[1]
Sociocultural characteristics[]
Termites live in mounds. They burrow under the ground but can emerge if their population spikes. Their primary predator is the aardwolf, though they are also hunted by honey badgers.[1]
