Speedy the Snail (also known as Super Duper Hero X) is a male snail.
Timon and Pumbaa initially planned to eat Speedy, but when he engaged them in conversation and showed off his singing abilities, they decided to befriend him instead. Once the three arrived in Paris, France, Speedy got kidnapped by Culinary Quint, who planned to cook him and serve him up as a meal at the Eiffel Tower. Together, Timon and Pumbaa rescued Speedy and defeated Quint.
Later, Timon pretended to be Super Duper Hero X, which resulted in his kidnapping by the superhero's archenemy, Chromosome Quint. Pumbaa resolved to save his friend, and Speedy agreed to help. Together, the two freed Timon, after which they saved Pride Rock and the animals who had gathered around it.

Early life[]
Speedy lived on a shore located within or close by the jungle. At some point in his life, he became a superhero who went by the name of Super Duper Hero X.[1]

Timon and Pumbaa stalked and trapped Speedy the Snail but ended up getting trapped in a crate themselves. Timon was about to eat Speedy when the snail started talking and told the duo that he could sing. Pumbaa suggested that he and Timon not eat Speedy, and Timon agreed and decided that he and Pumbaa should be friends with the snail instead.
The three got delivered to Paris, France, where they encountered Culinary Quint. The chef proceeded to kidnap Speedy in the hopes that he could turn the snail into a meal at the Eiffel Tower. Devastated, Timon and Pumbaa resolved to rescue their new friend.

While Quint prepared to cook Speedy, who was trapped in a cage, Pumbaa interrupted and told Quint that Jerry Lewis was there. However, Quint was not convinced and claimed that he was not a fan of that particular celebrity. He then noticed that Timon had freed Speedy from the cage and realized that he had gotten tricked. Quint managed to catch Timon and Pumbaa, and threw the duo out of the Eiffel Tower. The friends landed in the Louvre Museum, where the Mona Lisa painting fell on Timon. After the defeat, Timon came up with a new plan to rescue Speedy.
Timon and Pumbaa disguised themselves as a costumer. While in disguise, Timon asked for a table for one, and Quint brought him to a table and gave him a menu. Timon asked for a raw snail that was still alive and had cute, little, gumdrop eyes and a swirly curlicue shell. The rescue plan almost worked until Pumbaa started talking, which made Quint recognize the duo and throw them out of the Eiffel Tower once more.

Quint was about to cook Speedy when Timon and Pumbaa showed up and fought the chef for their snail friend. After Timon got Speedy out of the pot, the meerkat ran into Quint and fell into the pot. Burned and injured, he rushed into a freezer and sat on some ice to cool himself. Quint promptly trapped Timon in the freezer and started chasing Speedy and Pumbaa, who repeatedly outwitted him.
When Speedy and Pumbaa got out of the kitchen and entered the elevator, Quint saw them, pulled out two kitchen weapons, and advanced on them. Just in time, Speedy and Pumbaa entered the elevator and closed the door, to their relief. However, their luck did not last, as Quint managed to send them back to the top of the Eiffel Tower, where he finally caught them. Just then, Timon slid in on a giant ice cube, which hit Quint and made him fall out of the Eiffel Tower and land in the Louvre Museum. With Quint defeated, Timon and Pumbaa took Speedy home.[2]

Timon and Pumbaa nearly got thrown off a ship by Captain Quint for being stowaways, but Speedy the Snail vouched for them, and Quint allowed them to remain on his boat. After the incident, Timon suggested to Pumbaa that they ditch Speedy, as they always ended up having to save him from someone who wanted to eat him. Just then, a jeweler and his wife noticed Speedy's shell and believed that it would make a perfect earring. The couple kidnapped Speedy, which left it up to Timon and Pumbaa to rescue him.
The jeweler was about to make Speedy's shell into an earring when Timon and Pumbaa drilled a hole into the ceiling, and Timon grabbed a hook to save Speedy. The jeweler noticed the hook and threw it into the ocean. As a result, Timon accidentally caught an octopus, which attacked the two friends.

For their second attempt to rescue Speedy, Timon and Pumbaa disguised themselves as pirates who wanted Speedy, but the jeweler's wife wanted to be their pirate queen. Pumbaa confessed the truth to her, and consequently, he and Timon got kicked out of the cabin. For their third attempt, Timon and Pumbaa approached from underwater. Timon spotted the room where Speedy and the couple were and drilled a hole into the bottom of the boat. Though Pumbaa tried to stop him, Timon ignored him, and his actions caused the boat to fall and land on the two.
After these failed rescue attempts, Timon and Pumbaa put up various obstacles to trap the married couple and save Speedy. However, the plan backfired, as the couple passed through all the obstacles safely. Just then, Timon and Pumbaa saw that Speedy had been made into an earring for the jeweler's wife and realized that they had failed to save him. The couple entered the ship lounge. Knowing that they could not take Speedy from the jeweler's wife in front of all the other passengers, Timon and Pumbaa decided to be stealthy.

Timon and Pumbaa successfully took Speedy from the couple without being noticed. However, while the three friends were walking on the deck, they got caught by the couple, who had realized that Speedy was missing from the jeweler's wife's ear. Speedy, Timon, and Pumbaa got chased by the couple until they entered the captain's room. While there, Timon tricked all the passengers (including the jeweler and his wife) into getting out of the boat in search of gold in the water. Pumbaa pointed out that the passengers would get back into the boat after they discovered that there was not any gold underwater, so the meerkat decided to move the ship. Timon pulled a lever but accidentally made the boat move too fast. After the meerkat re-pushed the lever to make the boat stop, the three friends made it to Speedy's home.
Upon arrival, the three got caught by the couple again. Timon pushed the lever to make the boat move backwards, after which he, Pumbaa, and Speedy got off the boat, while the couple remained trapped on the ship. With Speedy home safe and sound (and with a new golden shell), the friends said their goodbyes. However, Speedy got captured by a seagull, which left it up to Timon and Pumbaa to rescue him once again.[3]

When Timon disguised himself as Super Duper Hero X to make money, he got kidnapped by the superhero's archenemy, Chromosome Quint. Pumbaa worried about his friend and wondered who could help him. Just then, Speedy the Snail showed up and claimed that he was there to meet Hero X. Pumbaa broke the news that the hero had gotten kidnapped by Quint, and Speedy stated that he sang whenever something went wrong. After Speedy performed a song, Pumbaa suggested that they find Timon.
Meanwhile, Quint introduced himself to Timon, whom he mistook for Hero X. He told the meerkat that he was going to reveal Hero X's secret identity to all the jungle animals, who were gathering at Pride Rock for the presentation of a newborn lion cub. Timon tried to tell Quint who he really was, but Quint did not believe him.

Speedy and Pumbaa found the blimp as it neared Pride Rock. The friends climbed to the very top of Pride Rock and tried to enter the aircraft. Pumbaa wondered how he and Speedy could get inside, and the snail suggested that they sing. When they did so, they slid inside the blimp and ran into Quint and Timon. Though Timon tried to get Pumbaa to tell Quint that he was not Hero X, the warthog merely stated that he was.
Just then, Pumbaa got trapped by Quint, who ran out of the room. Pumbaa showed Timon that he had brought Speedy with him, but the meerkat did not believe that a snail could help them escape. Speedy then revealed to his friends that he was Super Duper Hero X. After he freed Timon and Pumbaa from Quint's trap, the three prepared to defeat Quint once and for all.

Quint was about to reveal Hero X's secret identity to the animals when Timon, Pumbaa, and Speedy turned off the power. Little did they realize, by turning off the power, they had caused the blimp to stop flying. As a result, the aircraft nearly hurt the animals and destroyed Pride Rock.
Later, at Speedy's home, Timon and Pumbaa said their goodbyes and thanked him for his rescue of Pride Rock and all the jungle animals who had been gathered around it. Timon found it funny that, after they had risked their lives to save Speedy so many times, he had ended up being a superhero all along. Meanwhile, Pumbaa was just glad that Chromosome Quint would remain behind bars. Suddenly, Speedy was captured by a seagull, which was revealed to be a seagull-shaped plane that was being piloted by an escaped Chromosome Quint. With Speedy in danger, Timon and Pumbaa took off to save him whilst singing "When the Saints Go Marching In".[1]

Speedy the Snail is a rather large snail. He has bluish-gray skin, with a red curlicue shell and black eyes.[2] As a superhero, Speedy wears a red mask and cape, and his shell is yellow, with a black "X" on it.[1]

Speedy the Snail is easygoing, friendly, and kind-hearted. He is also brave and strong, as he teamed up with Timon and Pumbaa to stop Chromosome Quint from revealing Super Duper Hero X's secret identity to the Pride Landers.[1] Speedy frequently finds himself in danger, such as when he got caught by Culinary Quint and when the jeweler tried to turn his shell into an earring. Despite being a superhero, Speedy tends to be rather helpless and relies on Timon and Pumbaa to save his life.[2][3]
