Simba's pride is a group of lions led by King Simba. They reside in the Pride Lands.
Once known as "Milele," the Pride Lands were considered to be a myth and a fable told to cubs. After losing his pride to the Outsiders, Mufasa set off in search of Milele. Upon finding it, he and his allies realized that the Outsiders had followed them and were intent on ruling the kingdom themselves. While Mufasa persuaded most of the local animals to help him defeat the Outsiders, Sarabi defended a pride of local lions from the Outsiders' attacks. Working together, the animals of Milele defeated the Outsiders and made Mufasa their new king, with the Milele lions serving as his new pride.
As the king of the Pride Lands, Mufasa had a son named Simba. Embittered by jealousy and entitlement, Scar allied with Shenzi's clan to instigate a stampede that resulted in Mufasa's death. Though the hyenas attempted to kill Simba as well, he escaped and grew up in exile in a faraway jungle.
Eventually, Simba encountered the spirit of Mufasa, who urged him to return home and reclaim his birthright. With help from his friends and his former pride, Simba challenged Scar's right to rule and overpowered his hyena army. Though Simba initially allowed Scar to flee the Pride Lands forever, Scar refused and forced a fight, which culminated in Simba throwing him off Pride Rock. He was then devoured by his disillusioned hyena followers. With Scar dead and his army defeated, Simba became the new king of the Pride Lands.
Together with Nala, Simba had a daughter named Kiara. When Nala became pregnant with the couple's second cub, she and Simba traveled to the ceremonial birthing grounds for the birth, while Timon and Pumbaa tended to Kiara. While her parents were away, Rafiki told her the story of her grandfather, Mufasa. Afterwards, she reunited with her parents and met her newborn brother.
History[]
Origins[]
The Milele lions face off against the Outsiders.
Initially, Simba's pride resided in the Pride Lands (then-known as "Milele") under the leadership of a matriarch, Sarafina. One day, the young lion Mufasa and his allies arrived in Milele, only for a hostile pride of lions known as the Outsiders to follow them there and threaten the kingdom's peace. In an effort to garner support for Mufasa, Sarabi convinced Sarafina and her pride to band with them.
As a battle broke out between the animals of Milele and the Outsiders, the Milele lions got cornered by Akua, Amara, and several other Outsider lionesses. Suddenly, an earthquake split the land, creating a fissure in the earth that swallowed up the Outsiders. After the battle, the Milele lions watched as Mufasa ascended the newly formed Pride Rock and became Milele's first king.[1]
Mufasa's reign[]
Simba's presentation[]
Seasons later, Mufasa and his mate, Sarabi, had a son named Simba. One morning, at Pride Rock, they presented their newborn son to their subjects. After the ceremony, Mufasa confronted his adoptive brother, Scar, over having missed the presentation, but Scar simply lamented having been replaced as the first-in-line to the throne. Though Zazu pointed out that Mufasa should have banished Scar from the pride long ago, Mufasa replied that Scar was his brother and that, as long as he was king, that would never change.[2]
Simba's cubhood[]
When Simba had grown into a young cub, Mufasa led him to the summit of Pride Rock, where he showed him the entirety of their kingdom and proclaimed that he would rule it all someday. He then escorted Simba around the Pride Lands, emphasizing the importance of the Circle of Life. At that moment, Zazu reported that hyenas had invaded the Pride Lands, and Mufasa sent Simba home to stay with the other cubs while he dealt with the invaders.
Simba and his best friend, Nala, embark on a play date.
Upon returning to Pride Rock, Simba bragged to Scar that he would someday be the king. Scar, in turn, revealed that there was an Elephant Graveyard on the border of the Pride Lands and urged Simba to promise that he would never go there. Ignoring his uncle's warning, Simba fetched his best friend, Nala, and they journeyed to the Elephant Graveyard together, only to be attacked by Shenzi's clan. Just in time, Mufasa intervened and saved their lives.
Once back home in the Pride Lands, Mufasa ordered Zazu to escort Nala home while he spoke with Simba. He proceeded to lecture his son for having endangered his life and thus jeopardized the future of their pride. Afterwards, he taught Simba about the Great Kings of the Past, the spirits of their ancestors who looked down on them from the stars.[2]
Stampede and Mufasa's death[]
In an attempt to kill his adoptive brother and nephew, Scar allied with Shenzi's clan. After Scar lured Simba to a gorge, the hyenas set off a stampede of wildebeests, and Scar fetched Mufasa. Though Mufasa managed to save Simba, he began to scale the side of the gorge, only for Scar to intercept him and throw him back into the stampede to his death.
Scar delivers a eulogy for Mufasa and Simba to his pride.
Afterwards, Scar convinced Simba that he was to blame for his father's death and urged the cub to flee the Pride Lands forever. Once Simba had run out of sight, Scar ordered his hyena minions to kill him, and they chased the cub over a steep ledge. Shenzi ordered her underlings to verify that he was dead, but they figured that no cub could survive such a fall and falsely reported that they had eaten Simba.
That evening, Scar delivered a eulogy for Mufasa and Simba to his grief-shaken pride. He then invited the hyenas into the Pride Lands as his enforcers, to the pride's disapproval.[2]
Scar's reign[]
Famine[]
The pride reluctantly submits to Scar's reign.
Under Scar's reign, the hyenas over-hunted the Pride Lands' herds to the point of extinction. Though Nala proposed that the pride stand and fight or else leave the kingdom for good, Sarabi asserted that the Pride Lands were their home and that they could never abandon them. At that moment, Scar summoned Sarabi to him and proposed that she become his queen. She refused, and as punishment, he allowed the hyenas to eat before the lionesses.
That night, Nala snuck past Scar and his hyenas, and fled the Pride Lands in search of help. Eventually, she found a full-grown Simba living in the jungle and begged him to come home. At first, he was reluctant to do so, and Nala opted to return home on her own. However, after Mufasa's spirit commanded him to return home and take his place as the rightful king, Simba followed Nala back to the Pride Lands.[2]
Battle for Pride Rock[]
The pride supports Simba's right to rule the Pride Lands.
One evening, atop Pride Rock, Scar once more implored Sarabi to be his queen, but she exclaimed that he was nothing compared to Mufasa. Enraged, he attacked her, only for Simba to intervene and order Scar to leave his mother alone. He then challenged Scar for the throne. Instead of acquiescing, Scar accused Simba of having killed Mufasa and pinned him on the promontory of Pride Rock. He then revealed that he, in fact, had killed Mufasa. Overcome by rage, Simba pulled himself back onto solid ground and exposed his uncle's crimes before the pride.
As a battle broke out between the hyenas and the lionesses, Simba chased Scar to the summit of Pride Rock. Scar begged for mercy, and Simba allowed him to live under the condition that he would leave the Pride Lands forever. Unwilling to accept this, Scar attacked Simba, and they fought until Simba threw Scar off Pride Rock. At the base of Pride Rock, Scar was confronted and killed by his disillusioned hyena followers. With his uncle dead and the hyenas driven off, Simba became the new king of Pride Rock.[2]

Simba's announcement[]
Kiara meets her newborn brother.
Together, Simba and his mate, Nala, had a daughter named Kiara. One morning, when Kiara was a cub, Simba announced to his subjects from Pride Rock that his family was growing, as had been his father Mufasa's dream. He then tasked Timon and Pumbaa with watching Kiara while he joined Nala at the ceremonial birthing grounds for the birth of their second cub. While staying with Timon and Pumbaa, Kiara listened to Rafiki tell the story of her grandfather, Mufasa.
After Simba and Nala's son was born, they escorted him home alongside the rest of the pride. Along the way, they were intercepted by Kiara, whom they introduced to her younger brother. She vowed to protect him forever, then told him the story of Mufasa.[1]
