"Safety Smart: Honest & Real!" is the seventh episode of Disney's Wild About Safety. It premiered on June 23, 2013.

Official synopsis[]

"A better world is a safer world! Being Safety Smart® isn’t just about travel safety, fire safety, or staying safe while searching the Internet – it is also about developing the character traits necessary to make our entire world a better place! Students join Timon and Pumbaa as the pair demonstrate ways to identify and practice good character traits such as honesty, kindness, and responsibility. Whether they are offering a helping hand, doing their chores, or owning up to their mistakes, our favorite Safety Smart® duo use the study of good character to help kids learn how to make responsible, positive choices that will improve their own lives, and the lives of the people around them."[1]

Plot summary[]

One day, the animals of the jungle were preparing for a special celebration: the Honest and Real Award ceremony. Pumbaa was excited, but Timon was feeling down, as he had wanted to win the award. Pumbaa pointed out that Timon was doing a poor job setting up for the party, especially with the folded leaves. Timon explained that he had wanted to win the award, but Pumbaa reminded him that the award went to someone who showed honesty, kindness, responsibility, and realness every day. He went on that Timon needed to be a good character to deserve the award, but Timon insisted that he had been in a movie and even had a toy version of himself. Pumbaa clarified that being a good character was not about fame or acting; it was about one's actions. Timon protested by dressing up as William Shakespeare and claiming that he was a great actor.

Ultimately, Timon did not want to do the work for the party; he just wanted to take credit for it. He tried to convince Pumbaa that it was fine to say he had done the work, even if he had not, but Pumbaa explained that this was not honesty and taught Timon the true meaning of being honest. He also reminded Timon that bullying was not being kind, nor was taking credit for someone else's work.

Shortly afterwards, Pumbaa decided to buy supplies for the party. Timon, now understanding the importance of honesty, suggested they buy a birthday gift for Hilda, who was the recipient of the Honest and Real Award. He wanted to use music from the Internet, but Pumbaa quickly shut that down, explaining that copying music was stealing the hard work of others, which was not honest or real.

As Pumbaa scolded Timon, a rat appeared from the shadows and invited the duo to buy goods from him at a cheaper price. Though Timon was instantly intrigued by the lower prices, Pumbaa warned him that the items might be fake or stolen and that buying stolen goods was illegal. Timon, still not understanding the issue, was about to make a purchase when the rat pulled out a Timon toy, only for the toy's head to fall off, revealing its poor quality. The rat tried to sell another toy, but Timon did not like it because it did not resemble him at all. Pumbaa used this as a teaching moment, explaining that fake items were of much poorer quality and broke easily.

Just then, the police arrived, and the rat fled, taking his merchandise with him. To wrap things up, Timon and Pumbaa sang a song about the importance of being honest and real ("Honest & Real").
