"Safety Smart: Goes Green!"

"Safety Smart: At Home!" is the first episode of Disney's Wild About Safety. It premiered on January 27, 2008.

Official synopsis[]

"Timon thinks he and Pumbaa should move to a bigger house, but Pumbaa isn’t so sure. The two friends – armed with their Safety Smart® Checklist – look through the house and discover some serious safety problems – including overloaded electrical outlets and a cluttered stairway – and end the program with a memorable safety song."[1]

Plot summary[]

Pumbaa was sad because he and Timon were moving into a new home. He reminisced about memories from their old home, while Timon tried to convince him that, even though their old house was good, they could find an even better one. Pumbaa insisted that the most important thing about a house was safety, but Timon mocked him, claiming that he knew everything about safety due to Pumbaa's Safety Smart Checklist.

To cheer Pumbaa up, Timon highlighted the positives of their new home, such as the view of the jungle. He also pointed out its cozy and modern features. Pumbaa, however, remained concerned about safety. Singing a snippet of "Hakuna Matata", he found a dangerous power cable that could overheat and start a fire. Shortly afterwards, a stampede scene reminiscent of the one in The Lion King occurred. Timon and Pumbaa worked together to fix the power cable and discovered additional safety issues, which they resolved.

Next, Timon and Pumbaa found a luxury kitchen and excitedly ate some grubs. Pumbaa taught Timon how to save energy safely. They then found a bunk bed, and Pumbaa warned Timon to keep the heater at least three feet away. This led to a musical moment featuring the phrase "three feet from the heat."

Timon tried to place a coat on a lamp, but Pumbaa explained that it was not safety-smart. Later, Timon smelled something strange and panicked, thinking that the house was on fire, but it turned out to be Pumbaa's gas. Pumbaa suggested that they install smoke alarms for safety. He also explained the importance of an escape plan and how to properly use 911 during emergencies. This led to Timon misunderstanding and shouting "911!" instead of calling it.

After learning all the safety rules, Timon and Pumbaa decided to stay in their new home. They sang a song summarizing the safety tips that they had discussed ("Safety Smart"), then walked off into the jungle.
