"Safety Smart: About Fire!" is the fourth episode of Disney's Wild About Safety. It premiered in 2009.

Official synopsis[]

"“Get down, get out and stay out!” That’s just one of the lessons Timon and Pumbaa share to help students understand what to do in a fire emergency. From smoke alarms, fire escape plans and preventative measures such as not playing with matches, Timon and Pumbaa review their Safety Smart® Checklist full of valuable and life-saving fire safety information."[1]

Plot summary[]

While Timon and Pumbaa were sleeping, the smoke alarm started beeping and woke Timon. At the same time, Pumbaa let out a loud fart, which added to Timon's frustration. Annoyed and wanting sleep, Timon asked Pumbaa to turn off the alarm. Upon examining it, Pumbaa realized that the beeping was due to a low battery. The two replaced the battery, and Pumbaa explained that smoke alarm batteries should be changed twice a year.

To educate Timon, Pumbaa brought out a chalkboard and introduced the "Fire Triangle." He explained that fire needed three elements to burn: oxygen, fuel (like wood), and heat. Timon looked around nervously, noting that they were surrounded by oxygen, wood, and Pumbaa's gas. Pumbaa clarified that the Fire Triangle did not mean that a fire would happen all the time, but rather when proper care was not taken.

As Timon tried to go back to sleep, Pumbaa warned him that smoke was just as dangerous as fire. He then taught Timon the phrase, "If we breathe in smoke, we'll choke." He emphasized the importance of having smoke alarms, sprinklers, and fire extinguishers, adding that when a smoke alarm went off, the first step was to get out of the house immediately. Since smoke rose, he advised crawling on the floor to stay below it. The pair then broke into a song about fire safety.

Afterwards, Timon attempted to sleep again, but Pumbaa interrupted him, calling him "Sleeping Beauty" and suggesting they prepare an escape plan in case of a fire. He explained that families should have a meeting place outside where everyone could gather after escaping. When Timon asked where their meeting place should be, Pumbaa suggested a big tree. Timon, exasperated, pointed out that they lived in a jungle that was full of big trees. Pumbaa then specified a "tree with a hammock," and Timon agreed.

To practice their escape plan, the duo rehearsed a fire drill in which they crawled, evacuated, and eventually reached the tree. Pumbaa explained that they must call 911, and Timon misunderstood, shouting "911!" instead of using a phone. Trying to show off, he listed emergency numbers from various countries, which confused Pumbaa. The pair wrapped up by singing a song summarizing everything they had learned about fire safety ("Fire Safety"). Timon then sniffed the air and asked if Pumbaa smelled something. In answer, Pumbaa sheepishly apologized.
