―Reirei[src]

Reirei is a female jackal. She is the leader of a pack of jackals in the Outlands. She is the mate of Goigoi, and the mother of Dogo, Kijana, and their brothers.

During Kupatana, Reirei and her family infiltrated the Pride Lands because of Kion's good graces. However, they betrayed Kion's trust by attacking the Pride Landers and disturbing the peace. As a result, they were exiled from the kingdom by Simba.

Later, Reirei and her pack joined forces with the resurrected spirit of Scar. They waged frequent battles against the Pride Landers, which culminated in a final fight in the Outlands. Scar's army fell, and Reirei's pack submitted to Jasiri's leadership.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Reirei lived in the Outlands. She became mates with Goigoi, and the couple had many pups, including Dogo and Kijana.[1]

Kupatana[]

The plan worked! The Lion Guard rescued Dogo, just like I knew they would. We're getting into the Pride Lands just in time for Kupatana!
―Reirei[src]

Per Reirei's instructions, Dogo tricked the Lion Guard into letting him into the Pride Lands, and Reirei and her family snuck in after him. There, they were confronted by Kion, who expressed anger at Reirei's sons for sleeping in the aardvark warrens. Reirei excused their behavior and begged Kion to let her and Goigoi stay with Dogo. Though reluctant, Kion granted Reirei's appeal.

Reirei and her family infiltrate the Pride Lands.

Shortly afterward, Reirei taught her sons how to be crafty and manipulative as well as how to steal from others. In doing so, the jackals managed to annoy a large group of Pride Landers, and Kion was forced to intervene again. Once more, Reirei begged Kion to forgive her family, and Kion reluctantly allowed the jackals to attend Kupatana.

At Kupatana, Reirei and her family attacked the Pride Landers, but Reirei was defeated by Kion. Simba himself approached the jackal family and roared, which sent them scurrying back into the Outlands.[2]

Attack on the aardwolves[]

Don't you worry about that. I promise, the Lion Guard won't find hide nor hair of you. Well, maybe a little hide.
―Reirei to the aardwolves[src]
2016-07-20-21 48 48

Reirei and Goigoi fool the aardwolves into trusting them.

When a pack of aardwolves moved into the Outlands, Reirei picked up their scent and rushed into her den to awaken Goigoi so they could make a meal out of the pack. Together, the two jackals entered the aardwolves' den and welcomed them to the Outlands. At first, the aardwolves were frightened of the jackals, but when they realized that Reirei and Goigoi did not plan on harming them, they expressed relief that it was not the Lion Guard. Reirei assured the aardwolves that they were nothing like the Lion Guard and proceeded to fool the pack into trusting them.

Later, a stray member of the pack, Mjomba, entered the den and told his friends that they were once more welcome in the Pride Lands. However, before the aardwolves could leave, Goigoi trapped them in the cave, and he and Reirei launched their attack. Just in time, the Lion Guard arrived to save the aardwolves. Kion pinned Reirei to the cave floor and ordered her to leave the aardwolves alone. She complied and fled back into her den with Goigoi. They were then promptly shut in by Bunga.[3]

Attack on Bunga's charges[]

Sorry to spoil your fun, but we've been waiting a really long time to eat, and we just can't wait anymore.
―Reirei, as she and her pack attack Bunga's charges[src]

Reirei and her pack attacked a herd of zebras. Nearby, Kion picked up the pack's scent, and the Lion Guard rushed to rescue the zebras from their attackers. Too late, the pack struck, and Dogo and Kijana managed to isolate a young zebra named Hamu from the rest of the herd. Ono spotted the double attack, and Kion ordered Bunga and Ono to save Hamu while he, Beshte, and Fuli rescued the remainder of the herd. Kion stopped Reirei from harming the rest of the herd, and Muhimu realized that she had lost her son, Hamu, in the panic. Hamu promptly arrived alongside Bunga, who deposited Dogo and Kijana at their mother's paws. Reirei tried to blame Hamu for harming Dogo, but Kion exiled her back to the Outlands. The jackals promptly took off for home.

Reirei teaches Dogo and Kijana how to hunt.

In the Outlands, Reirei trained Dogo and Kijana how to hunt by using Goigoi as a makeshift target. The pups did so well that Reirei decided to return to the Pride Lands. Kijana worried about the Lion Guard, but Reirei asserted that she would come up with a plan to keep the Lion Guard from interfering with their hunt.

Once in the Pride Lands, Reirei and her pack overheard Muhimu and Twiga discussing Bunga's babysitting duties at Hakuna Matata Falls. Elated, Reirei decided to attack the little ones while they were separated from their parents. She ordered Goigoi to distract the Lion Guard so that they would stay away from the falls.

Reirei attacks Bunga at Hakuna Matata Falls.

The jackals attacked Bunga and his charges. While Reirei took on Bunga, her pups attacked the young animals. In the midst of the fight, Bunga yelled encouragement to his charges, reminding them to "teke," "ruka," and "teleza" in order to fend off their attackers. The plan worked, and the jackals were defeated.

Just then, the Lion Guard arrived and stared in consternation at the defeated jackals and the triumphant young animals. Fuli questioned how there could be so many young animals, and Bunga explained that word had been spreading that he was a fantastic babysitter. Reirei piped up, complaining to Kion that she and her children had been severely abused, but Kion only agreed to let her go if she promised to never harm another young Pride Lander. Reirei delivered her promise, and the jackals took off for the Outlands once more.[1]

Army of Scar[]

Attack on Rafiki[]

Don't make me laugh, Janja. We jackals are the smartest animals around.
―Reirei[src]

After Scar's resurrection, Reirei and her pack joined the Army of Scar. One day, in the midst of a chase with Janja's clan, Ono spotted Reirei and her pack attacking a group of pangolins on the other side of the Pride Lands. As a result, Kion was forced to split up his team. While he and Beshte continued to pursue the hyenas, Ono left with Bunga and Fuli to take on the jackals.

Reirei leads her pack in attacking a group of pangolins.

Fuli and Ono arrived to fend off the jackals. The fight began, but the jackals scattered around Fuli, which made it impossible for her to catch them. Reirei then changed strategy, and the jackals began to pelt Fuli with the curled-up forms of the pangolins. However, when the pangolins landed, they unfurled and released gas into the faces of the jackals, which caused them to flee.

Back in the Outlands, the hyenas and jackals came before Scar, who ordered them to attack Rafiki, the knowledge-keeper of the Pride Lands, as he could sense the Great Lions of the Past. Reirei and Janja proceeded to argue over which faction should take on Rafiki, but Scar ended the fight by selecting Janja to eliminate Rafiki. Meanwhile, Reirei was tasked with creating a diversion elsewhere.

Reirei and Janja report to Scar.

After the meeting, Janja gloated to Reirei about Scar's decision to send the hyenas instead of the jackals. Reirei rose to the bait, proclaiming that jackals were the smartest species. The two then began to argue over which species was more intelligent.

Back in the Pride Lands, Ono spotted the jackals chasing down a herd of gazelles, and Kion ordered his team to pursue them. In the meantime, Ono watched for hyenas from above. Shortly into the chase, Ono caught sight of the hyenas stalking Rafiki, and Kion quickly changed course, sending Tamaa to deal with the jackals while the Lion Guard defended Rafiki from the hyenas.

Reirei discovers that Tamaa has been impersonating the Lion Guard.

Tamaa caught up to the jackals and cornered them in a clearing by impersonating the voices of the Lion Guard. Reirei was pleased that they had managed to divert the Lion Guard's attention away from Janja, but Goigoi worried that they would be harmed in the process. Tamaa attempted to imitate Kion's Roar of the Elders, but the spectacle merely confused the jackals, who had expected to be blown away. Reirei then noticed Tamaa's tail feathers through the trees and pounced on him, pinning him to the ground. She realized that Kion had tricked them, and the jackals promptly left to assist the hyenas.

In the meantime, the Lion Guard had joined forces with Rafiki and defeated the entirety of Janja's clan. Reirei and her pack soon arrived to help, and a fight instigated, during which the Lion Guard and Rafiki beat back the combined forces of the hyenas and jackals. After losing the fight, the hyenas and jackals retreated.[4]

Defeat in the volcano[]

Sure! Come this way! I dare ya!
―Reirei, as the Lion Guard enters the Outlands[src]

Scar plotted with his army in the Outlands to defeat both Simba and the Lion Guard. He explained to his followers that he would be using Sumu the scorpion to take down Simba. The plan went into motion at Pride Rock, where the Pride Landers were honoring the Kumbuka celebration. However, in the midst of the festivities, Sumu stung Simba's tail, then retreated into the Outlands.

Reirei and her pack attempt to intercept the Lion Guard.

Back in the Outlands, Scar got word of Sumu's success and directed his army to intercept the Lion Guard when they entered the Outlands. The plan worked, as Reirei, Janja, Kiburi, and their respective groups slowed down the Lion Guard's progress through the area. At last, the Lion Guard reached the inner volcano, where Makini placed a pinch of the cure, volcanic ash, in her gourd.

As the team turned to leave, Scar called his army forward, and they cornered the Lion Guard at the edge of the lava. With no option left, Kion used the Roar of the Elders to carefully blow away Scar's army, after which the Lion Guard made a quick escape.[5]

Occupation of Kilio Valley[]

You hyenas? You couldn't find your own tails without us!
―Reirei, when Janja attempts to take command of Scar's army[src]

In Kilio Valley, the Lion Guard struggled to put out a widespread brush fire. The team spread out and accepted help from several of Ma Tembo's herd members, while Ma Tembo led the rest of the herd out of the valley. However, she was cornered among the flames by Reirei, Janja, Kiburi, and their respective followers. Ono overheard Janja's cackling and reported what he had heard to Kion, who suspected Scar of having caused the trouble. He promptly ordered his team to protect the elephants, and the team left Kilio Valley to the mercy of the fire.

Reirei attempts to take control of Kilio Valley.

Later, the fire died down as the Army of Scar celebrated their victory. They began to bicker among themselves over who had performed the best, but Scar suddenly arose from a still-burning ember and ordered the army to remain in Kilio Valley. He then revealed that he planned to take over the Pride Lands piece by piece.

Janja attempted to appoint himself the leader of the army, but Reirei, Kiburi, and Mzingo protested vehemently. The villains then began to compete over who should be in charge of the valley. They continued to argue as the Lion Guard looked on.[6]

Scar's meeting[]

Make yourself useful for a change.
―Reirei to Goigoi[src]

Reirei informed Goigoi that she was going to attend one of Scar's meetings. She instructed him to find food while she was away, then left.[7]

Hyena Resistance[]

Listen up, everyone. Scar ain't happy. Both Kiburi and Janja have messed up his plans. But now it's our turn to take the lead. We're gonna take over Ukuni Woods, and ain't nothin' gonna stop us.
―Reirei[src]

Reirei led the rest of her pack in repeated failed attacks against the Pride Lands. Eventually, after a long battle against the Lion Guard in the Outlands, the jackals retreated.[8]

Attack on Big Springs[]

Yeah, it was a big gorilla that defeated us again. I mean, for the first time.
―Reirei on Shujaa[src]

Reirei and her pack launched an attack on Big Springs but were defeated by Shujaa. Later, the Army of Scar attacked Basi's pod again. However, they were defeated by the Lion Guard and Shujaa.[9]

Attack on Makuu's watering hole[]

Just 'cause you're big, don't mean you can't fall.
―Reirei[src]

Reirei and her pack prepare to attack the Pride Lander army.

The Lion Guard rushed to stop Bupu's herd and Laini's group from stampeding. Once calm, the groups admitted to having been scared of a jackal attack, and the Lion Guard concluded that the Pride Landers must unite against the threat of the Outlanders.

Unbeknownst to the Pride Landers, Scar decided to attack Makuu's watering hole since the crocodiles' alliance with Kion was fraying. The Army of Scar, including Reirei and her pack, besieged Makuu's float. Ono witnessed the battle and reported his findings to Kion. Together, the Lion Guard and their Pride Lander allies stormed the watering hole and fought off the Army of Scar.[10]

Attack on Dhahabu[]

Would you look at that? A golden zebra.
―Reirei on Dhahabu[src]

Reirei and her pack attack Dhahabu.

Dhahabu, the queen of the Back Lands, arrived in the Pride Lands to discuss a water treaty between her kingdom and Simba's. Scar's lackeys, Shupavu and Njano, spied on the proceedings. Afterward, Shupavu and Njano informed Scar of Dhahabu's visit to the Pride Lands, and Scar schemed to end the treaty between the two kingdoms. To do so, he sent Reirei and her pack after Dhahabu.

Across the savanna, Ono discovered that Dhahabu was being set upon by the jackals. Along with Raha and Starehe, the Lion Guard rushed to the rescue and fought off the pack. Later, Dhahabu was freshening up in a water hole when Reirei and her pack attacked again, this time with crocodile allies. Ono informed the Lion Guard of the predicament, and Raha and Starehe raced off to defend their queen.[11]

Attack on Mizimu Grove[]

Reirei flees Ma Tembo.

At Mizimu Grove, Rafiki and Simba announced Makini's mpando mpaya. In the midst of the celebration, the Army of Scar, including Reirei and her pack, attacked, and the Pride Landers rose up to defend themselves. The battle paused when Scar appeared in the flames and threatened to overtake the entirety of the Pride Lands. Frightened by Scar's unexpected appearance, the remaining Pride Landers fled Mizimu Grove. Kion then used the Roar of the Elders to defeat the Outlanders.[12]

Battle for the Pride Lands[]

Come on, kiddies. You know what to do.
―Reirei to her pups, during the battle for the Pride Lands[src]

Over the next few seasons, the Army of Scar waged war on the Pride Lands, only to get repeatedly chased off by the Lion Guard. Eventually, Simba declared total war on the Outlands, and Scar convened with Reirei, Kiburi, Mzingo, and Shupavu at the volcano. There, he plotted to destroy the royal family and Janja's clan, who were on the cusp of revolting against the rest of Scar's army.

2019-08-15-22 20 44

Reirei and her pack face the Lion Guard in battle.

The next morning, the Army of Scar gathered to repel the Pride Landers' invasion of the Outlands. As the Pride Landers charged into battle, Scar's army noted Janja's betrayal, and Reirei pointed out that everything was happening as Scar had predicted. Kiburi asserted that Scar's intelligence would win them the battle, then ordered his float to follow him. Likewise, Reirei told her pack that they knew what to do, and they charged into battle. In the ensuing fight, Reirei attacked Ma Tembo but was swiftly defeated. As the battle continued, Reirei ordered her children to throw rocks at Bupu's herd. However, Shujaa threw a rock at the jackals, which caused them to scatter.

Eventually, the Pride Landers defeated Scar's army, and Kion vanquished Scar's spirit. After the battle, Cheezi asked what would happen to the Outlanders, and Reirei wondered the same. Janja remarked that he could only think of one animal who could keep the peace between the Outlanders and the Pride Landers: Jasiri. Despite her initial reluctance, Jasiri agreed to the appointment and announced that, as long as the Outlanders respected the Circle of Life, the Outlands would be peaceful. Reirei asserted that, if Jasiri was keeping Janja in line, the Outlands might be livable. She then returned home with her pack.[13]

Physical appearance[]

Reirei is long-bodied and slender, with sharp features. Her fur is tan, while her muzzle, paws, and underbelly are sandy-colored. A thick black stripe runs up her back and ends in speckles over her forehead, and her tail is tipped with black. Her eyes are olive-green.[2]

Personality and traits[]

Pretend to be sweet. Speak with a smile. Then you can take things jackal style! Even if you're mad, play it cool for a while. That's how you fool 'em jackal style!
―Reirei teaches her pups[src]

As the leader of her pack and the matriarch of her family, Reirei is authoritative and charismatic. She is exceptionally cunning and sly, and often uses her sharp mind to trick other animals into giving her their food. In order to do so, she pretends to be innocent and friendly.[2] Even when she is caught red-handed, she plays the victim and tries to shift the blame to someone else, typically her enemies.[1]

2016-06-30-18 23 12

Reirei teaches her son, Dogo, how to steal food from animals.

Reirei has made many efforts to pass on her skills to her pups. Not only does she teach practical skills like hunting and food-gathering,[1] but she deliberately instructs them to be dishonest and manipulative.[2] She takes pride in her pups' ferocity and has no qualms about sending them into battle against much larger and more powerful opponents. Though she often expresses disappointment in the less savage Goigoi for being lazy and unintelligent, she still loves him and admires him for how "sweet" he is.[1]

Reirei thinks highly of jackals and believes that they are the smartest species. In particular, she looks down on hyenas and believes that she and her pack are more capable of leading missions than Janja and his clan.[4] Though Reirei is willing to form alliances with other species, she is a jackal supremacist and does whatever she can to take command of a multispecies group.[6] However, she did ultimately submit to Jasiri's queenship over the Outlands and even expressed optimism about the hyena's future reign.[13]
