Mufasa unites the Pride Landers[src]

Pride Landers are the inhabitants of the Pride Lands. They are governed by a reigning monarch.

The Pride Lands were originally regarded as a fabled paradise called "Milele." Their animal residents lived as separate tribes divided by species, with no single ruler among them. One day, an adolescent Mufasa and his allies arrived in Milele, pursued by a hostile pride of lions known as the Outsiders. Mufasa managed to persuade the Milele animals to assist him in his fight, and together, they drove out the Outsiders. Afterwards, the Milele animals appointed Mufasa to be their king.

The Pride Landers flourished under Mufasa's reign. However, when the king's adoptive brother, Scar, took the throne, the kingdom fell into disrepair, and most of the herds moved on for better prospects. Eventually, Mufasa's son, Simba, claimed his rightful place as king and restored the Pride Lands to their former glory.

History[]

Pre-monarchy[]

Before the monarchy of the Pride Lands (then-known as "Milele") was established, the Pride Landers lived in separate herds under no single animal's authority.[1]

Establishment of the monarchy[]

Mufasa rallies the Pride Landers to resist the Outsiders.

One day, a young lion named Mufasa arrived in Milele alongside his companions. Shortly after their arrival, a pride of white lions known as the Outsiders approached, and their leader, Kiros, expressed his desire to rule Milele himself. Addressing the Pride Landers, Mufasa implored them to help him fight the Outsiders, pointing out that different species had different strengths. He then reminded them that the Outsiders would simply kill them next, should they succeed in defeating Mufasa. Swayed by his words, the Pride Landers agreed to help him fight the Outsiders.

A battle broke out, during which the Pride Landers defeated the Outsiders and Mufasa killed Kiros. Afterwards, the Pride Landers hailed Mufasa as their king, despite his protests. Rafiki then reminded Mufasa that he had brought the Pride Landers together and become a king through all his trials. Finally, Mufasa accepted the mantle of kingship and ascended the newly formed Pride Rock. As the gathered animals watched, he roared over his new kingdom.[1]

Mufasa's reign[]

Banishment of the hyenas[]

Sometime during Mufasa's reign, the hyenas were banished from the Pride Lands for over-hunting.[2]

Simba's presentation[]

Mufasa and his queen, Sarabi, had a son, whom they named Simba. One morning, the Pride Landers gathered at Pride Rock to witness Rafiki holding the newborn cub aloft from Pride Rock for all to see. They then bowed before their future king.[2]

Simba's cubhood[]

Several Pride Landers help Simba and Nala escape their babysitter, Zazu.

Seasons later, when Simba was a cub, Mufasa escorted him around the Pride Lands, teaching him about the Circle of Life. He explained that, though lions ate antelope, their bodies became the grass when they died. Thus, all the species of the Pride Lands were connected.

Later, Simba and his best friend, Nala, employed the help of some Pride Landers to escape their babysitter, Zazu.[2]

Stampede and Mufasa's death[]

In an attempt to assassinate Mufasa and Simba, Scar instructed his hyena minions to start a wildebeest stampede. They did so, and the wildebeests stampeded into a gorge, endangering Simba's life. Upon being warned by Scar, Mufasa jumped to Simba's defense and bore him to safety. However, as Mufasa attempted to climb up the side of the gorge himself, Scar intercepted him and threw him to his death. He then convinced Simba to run away and ordered the hyenas to kill him. With Mufasa and Simba both purportedly dead, Scar assumed the throne of Pride Rock and allowed the hyenas entry into the Pride Lands.[2]

Scar's reign[]

Famine[]

Under Scar's reign, the hyenas over-hunted the Pride Lands, killing nearly every animal. This, in turn, starved the pride, as Scar gave preference to the hyenas in terms of who could eat first. Eventually, a full-grown Simba returned to the Pride Lands and challenged Scar's right to rule. After a battle between the lionesses and the hyenas, Simba emerged victorious and became the new king.[2]

Simba's reign[]

Kiara's presentation[]

Under Simba's reign, the Pride Lands flourished, and the Pride Landers attended the presentation of his and Nala's daughter, Kiara.[2]

Simba's announcement[]

When Nala became heavily pregnant with her and Simba's second cub, Simba announced to the Pride Landers from Pride Rock that his family was growing, as had been his father's dream.[1]
