Hey, you just saved me from some major humiliation, kiddo! I guess you're not such bad luck after all!
―Timon, after the panther cub saves him from Ned[src]

The panther cub is a male panther.

The panther cub found Pumbaa while he was hunting for bugs. When Pumbaa met the cub, he decided to bring him home and show him to Timon. However, Timon told Pumbaa that he had decided to join Ned's Good Luck Club and that black cats caused bad luck. As a result, Pumbaa was forced to hide the panther cub from his friend. Eventually, the panther cub revealed himself to Timon and scared Ned, who fell off a cliff and got eaten by piranhas. Grateful to the panther cub for having saved his reputation, Timon accepted the kitten as his new friend.

Befriending Timon and Pumbaa[]

While Pumbaa was bug-hunting, he found the panther cub, who was lost and lonely. Pumbaa decided to surprise Timon with the cub. However, when he brought the cub to his friend, Timon was reading a book about bad luck. Timon found out from the book that black cats caused bad luck if they crossed someone's path. After hearing this, Pumbaa hid the panther cub under a leaf and asked Timon why he was suddenly superstitious. Timon explained that he had told Ned that he wanted to join his Good Luck Club and that Ned had told him to protect a lucky jar for a single day in order to be admitted.

After placing the jar on soft, comfy pillows, Timon asked Pumbaa what the surprise was, and the warthog replied that it was nothing. Timon tripped on the leaf the panther cub was hiding in, and the book about bad luck hit the lucky jar. Timon quickly caught it.

The panther cub emerged from the leaf and began to chase a butterfly. He then blew a whistle, which made a marching band show up. After the marching band left, the panther cub chased a cricket and accidentally pushed a button from a secret missile silo. The lucky jar got on the top of the missile, and Timon mounted the craft to grab the jar. After the missile blew up, Timon fell down, and Pumbaa caught him. Timon and Pumbaa then fell underground, with the lucky jar safe in Timon's hands.

While Timon tried to figure out what had caused the unlucky things to happen, Pumbaa hid the panther cub in his mouth, then behind his back. Pumbaa gave Timon the idea to protect the jar by surrounding it with various lucky items. Timon put the jar over holly berries, surrounded the berries with lucky horseshoes, brought in a rabbit because of its lucky feet, put leaf clovers on himself and Pumbaa, and sprayed himself and Pumbaa with crocodile tears. Timon then got on a ladder and poured lucky milk in the jar. Wanting the milk, the panther cub got on the ladder, climbed into the jar, and knocked it over. Timon realized what was going on and quickly tried to catch the lucky jar, but it broke.

Just then, Timon spotted the panther cub and got angry at Pumbaa for bringing it home and hiding it. Timon then decided to trick Ned into thinking that the lucky jar was unharmed. He ordered Pumbaa to bring the panther cub back to where he had found it.

When Timon brought Ned the jar, with the pieces glued back together to fool the elephant, Ned was not convinced and broke it with his trunk. The elephant made fun of Timon's unluckiness, laughed at him, and prepared to humiliate him by telling the whole jungle about him. The panther cub showed up and scared Ned, which made the elephant fall off a cliff and land safely in the water. Though Ned was proud to be away from the jar, he soon got eaten by piranhas. Timon praised the panther cub for having saved him from major humiliation, and the cub became his and Pumbaa's new friend.[1]

The panther cub is small. He has black fur, with a red nose and green eyes.[1]

Playful and curious, the panther cub likes to wander around the jungle and chase insects. He has a particular fascination with Pumbaa's tail, as he tries to catch it whenever it wags. The panther cub also loves milk. Though mischievous and playful, the panther cub has a heroic side. When Ned was about to humiliate Timon by telling the entire jungle about his unluckiness, the cub blocked the elephant's path and caused him to fall into a river, where he got eaten by piranhas. At first, Timon believed that the panther cub was bad luck due to the unlucky things that had happened to him. However, after the cub saved him from humiliation, he gained a newfound respect for the kitten and no longer considered him to be unlucky.[1]
