| “ | Kiara: Rafiki, who... Who are the Outsiders? Rafiki: Well, the Outsiders come from many prides, but when they are born, they are hated because they are different from their tribe. |
” |
The Outsiders were a group of white lions led by Kiros. They resided in the Valley of Kings.
As part of Kiros's plot to become the sole king of the Valley of Kings, the Outsiders wiped out nearly every pride in the area. One day, Azibo and Kiros's son, Shaju, attacked the lioness Eshe, only for Mufasa to intervene and kill Shaju. Swearing vengeance, Kiros wiped out Mufasa's entire pride and pursued him and his adoptive brother, Taka, for many miles.
During the Outsiders' pursuit of Mufasa, Taka approached them and offered to lead them to Mufasa's destination: the fabled paradise of Milele. Leaving a trail of claw marks, Taka led the Outsiders to Milele, where they attacked Mufasa. However, Mufasa managed to inspire the animals of Milele to resist the Outsiders. Together, they overpowered and drove out the Outsiders, while Mufasa killed Kiros.
History[]
Background[]

According to Rafiki, the Outsiders came from many different prides. When they were born, they were hated for being different, and the pain of ostracization caused them to lash out and hate everything.[1]
Shaju's death[]

Under Kiros's leadership, the Outsiders resolved to kill every pride in the Valley of Kings, with one of them being Sarabi's original pride. One day, Azibo and Kiros's son, Shaju, attacked Eshe, only for Mufasa to leap to her defense. During the ensuing fight, Mufasa threw Shaju onto the sharp point of a log, killing him, and Azibo fled.
The Outsiders surround Obasi's pride.
Shortly afterwards, Azibo reported what had happened to Kiros, who questioned why he had survived, while Shaju had not. Azibo claimed that he had been badly injured, but Akua and Amara determined that only one lion had left blood on his mane; therefore, they reasoned, he had abandoned Shaju to die. As recompense for his son's death, Kiros allowed his pride to kill Azibo.
Swearing vengeance, Kiros confronted Obasi's pride alongside his followers. Though Obasi protested that there were rules among lions, Kiros declared that he had killed every pride in the Valley of Kings, save Obasi's, as it was his intent to be the sole Lion King. The Outsiders then slaughtered Obasi's entire pride.[1]
Kiros's revenge campaign against Mufasa[]

The Outsiders confront Mufasa and Taka.
After obliterating Obasi's pride, the Outsiders tracked Mufasa and Taka to a river. There, Kiros asked which of them had killed his son, and Mufasa took the blame, lying that Taka was nothing more than a stray. However, Akua and Amara proclaimed that Taka carried the blood of the pride, and so, Kiros ordered his pride to attack. With the Outsiders hot on their heels, Mufasa and Taka fled to the edge of a waterfall, and Taka knocked them both into the river below. Kiros ordered one of his underlings to follow them, but she was devoured by crocodiles.
Continuing on, the Outsiders caught up to Mufasa, Taka, and their allies once again at the Great Canyon. However, as they began to cross a bridge made of rock pillars, Sarabi incited an elephant stampede that destroyed the rock pillar bridge, thus cutting off the Outsiders' pursuit. Enraged, Kiros roared, and Zazu taunted the Outsiders as they were forced to find another way across the canyon.
The Outsiders arrive in Milele.
Eventually, the Outsiders lost Mufasa's trail on a snowy mountain. At that moment, Taka approached them and feigned camaraderie with Kiros, claiming that Mufasa had gotten his father, Obasi, killed, just as he had killed Kiros's son. Taka then agreed to lead the Outsiders to Mufasa's destination, Milele, and pledged his loyalty to Kiros.
Keeping his word, Taka left a trail of claw marks for the Outsiders to follow. Once Mufasa had reached Milele, the Outsiders confronted him, and Kiros revealed Taka's treachery. A battle broke out, during which Kiros forced Mufasa into an underground cave. The two continued to fight, with Kiros getting the upper hand, until Taka jumped in-between them to save Mufasa's life. As Mufasa and Taka took on Kiros together, an earthquake split the land, killing several Outsiders and causing Mufasa and Kiros to fall into an underground pool. They fought on, during which Mufasa sensed a falling boulder and hurled Kiros underneath it, killing him.[1]
Physical traits[]

The Outsiders had unusual pelts of pure white. Most of them had blue or gray eyes, though Azibo had gold eyes. The Outsiders were known for being unusually large, nearly twice as big as the lions of Obasi's pride.[1]
Temperament[]
The Outsiders were known for their vicious and vengeful natures.
According to Zazu, the Outsiders viewed every other lion bloodline as a threat to their existence and sought to wipe them all out. Though Obasi reminded Kiros that there was honor among lions, he disregarded this assertion and killed off the entire pride without ever formally challenging Obasi.
The Outsiders were relentless in their pursuit of Mufasa and his companions, following them all the way to Milele, despite the environmental hazards along the way. Kiros, bent on revenge for the death of his son, ensured that he battled Mufasa one on one. Despite their ruthlessness, they were wise enough to know when they were beaten, as they did not attempt to follow Mufasa over a waterfall after one of their own got eaten by crocodiles.[1]
