Okapis are a species of animal native to the Pride Lands.
Physical characteristics[]
The okapi is a four-legged animal of moderate size. It has a brown coat with black and white stripes on its legs. Some okapis have ossicones.
Social characteristics[]
Okapis are rare, and thus, many animals are unaware of their existence. Most are shy by nature and loath to meet new or unfamiliar animals. It is implied that okapis live in the Back Lands, in addition to the Pride Lands.
Information[]
The Lion King II: Simba's Pride[]
Okapis attend the presentation of Kiara.
Later, they are seen during the "Upendi" sequence. They are also seen during the "One of Us" sequence, in which they drive Kovu out of the Pride Lands. They are also seen running away with the giraffes when the battle starts.
The Lion Guard[]
"The Imaginary Okapi"[]
It is revealed that okapis are not native to the Pride Lands. Ajabu is the first okapi to become a Pride Lander, as he fled there in order to escape Makucha the leopard.
Behind the scenes[]
- In The Lion Guard, it is stated that okapis are not native to the Pride Lands. However, this contradicts The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, in which okapis are portrayed as Pride Landers.[1][2]
