Kovu is exiled by the Pride Landers during the "One of Us" sequence.

"One of Us" is the fifth song heard in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. It starts after Simba exiles Kovu from the Pride Lands. Immediately, the Pride Landers begin to drive Kovu away from Pride Rock, during which they compare him to Scar and assert that his destiny was sealed by his tumultuous past. As the Pride Landers attack Kovu, Kiara tries desperately to reach him, only to get repeatedly intercepted by the lionesses. Eventually, Kovu reaches a pond, where he sees Scar's reflection in his own. Horrified, he flees the vision and leaves the Pride Lands. As the song ends, Rafiki laments Simba's decision.[7]

Lyrics[]

Animals:
Deception
Disgrace
Evil as plain as the scar on his face

Zebras:
Deception
An outrage!

Giraffes:
Disgrace
For shame!

Hippo:
He asked for trouble the moment he came

Zebras:
Deception
An outrage!
(He can't change his stripes!)

Giraffes:
Disgrace
For shame!
(You know these Outsider types!)

Animals:
Evil as plain as
(See you later, agitator!)
The scar on his face
Deception
An outrage!
(Just leave us alone!)
Disgrace
For shame!
(Traitor, go back with your own!)

Hippo:
He asked for trouble the moment he came
(See you later, agitator!)

Animals:
Born in grief
Raised in hate
Helpless to defy his fate
Let him run
Let him live
But do not forget
What we cannot forgive

And he is not one of us
He has never been one of us
He is not part of us
Not our kind

Someone once lied to us
Now we're not so blind
For we knew he would do what he's done
And we know that he'll never be one of us

Animal:
He is not one of us

Antelope:
Deception

Zebra:
Disgrace

Trivia[]

  • When Kovu sees Scar's reflection instead of his own, animation is recycled from The Lion King. The animation of Scar that appears in the water is identical to the one used when Scar orders the hyenas to kill Simba following the stampede. It is merely distorted by the rippling water.[8]
  • According to production notes for The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, the hyenas originally sang a reprise of "One of Us" to persuade Kovu to do their bidding, as he was the son of Scar.[9]
