“ | Pumbaa: So, uh, Monti, how come you didn't ask a Bestest Best Friend to help get the prickly piece of something off your foot? Monti: To tell you the truth, Pumbaa, I don't have a Bestest Best Friend. Pumbaa: Is that so? |
” |
Monti is a male meerkat.
When Pumbaa had a fall-out with his best friend, Timon, he started to hang out with Monti instead. However, Monti continually failed to live up to Pumbaa's expectations, as he was not as good a match for him as Timon had been. Eventually, Monti reunited with his old best friend, Baampu, and abandoned Pumbaa entirely.
Biography[]
Early life[]
“ | Baampu: So what have you been up to, buddy? Monti: Oh, you know, the usual stuff, Baampu. Baampu: Are you still an expert at making those fruit nut soybean pancakes I like so much? Monti: Are you still an expert at eating them?

Monti lived in the jungle. At some point in his life, he became the best friend of Baampu, whom he often cooked for. However, the two lost track of each other for years.[1]
Friendship with Pumbaa[]
When Timon and Pumbaa ended their friendship due to Timon forgetting Bestest Best Friend Day, Pumbaa searched for a new best friend. He ranted about Timon, then sat down, accidentally squashing Monti in the process. After freeing himself, the meerkat told Pumbaa that he had been walking when a prickly object had stuck to his foot but that it had disappeared after Pumbaa had crushed him. He then thanked Pumbaa for removing the prickly object. Pumbaa asked Monti why he had not asked his Bestest Best Friend to help him remove the object from his foot, and Monti told him that he did not have a Bestest Best Friend. This made Pumbaa think that he would make a perfect replacement for Timon.
Later, Pumbaa caught a bug and hid it under a big leaf to surprise Monti. When Pumbaa revealed the bug, Monti expressed disgust and told Pumbaa that he only ate fresh fruits, nuts, and soybean products. He then showed that he did not accept anyone who had gas.[1]
Reunion with Baampu[]
One day, Monti and Pumbaa ran into Timon and his new best friend, Baampu. Monti and Baampu recognized each other and started cracking jokes. Monti then offered to cook for Baampu, and the two walked off, leaving Timon and Pumbaa behind.[1]
Physical appearance[]
Monti is a slender meerkat. He has brown fur, with a pale underbelly, dark brown stripes on his back, and black eyes. He has a mop of blond hair on his head.[1]
Personality and traits[]
“ | Monti: Pardon me. Pumbaa: Sorry. Didn't see you. Monti: It's quite all right. I shouldn't have approached over there anyway.

Monti is quite talkative, as he readily shared his life story with Pumbaa. Unlike Timon, who often rides around on Pumbaa's head, Monti prefers to walk because he dislikes telling other people what to do. He also dislikes eating bugs and is intolerant of anyone who has intestinal gas. When Monti and Baampu reunited, he immediately became jovial and humorous. He was oblivious to Pumbaa's feelings, as he walked off with Baampu without giving Pumbaa a second thought. He genuinely cares about his best friend and can easily recall many memories the two share.[1]
