Simba mistakes Rafiki for a monkey[src]

Monkeys are a species of animal native to the jungle and the Pride Lands. They feed on fruit and are preyed upon by jackals.

Habitat disruption[]

It's crazy, Kion. Not only have the giraffes taken over the monkeys' forest, the acacia savanna where the giraffe live is full of zebra and antelope, the zebra and antelope grazing ground is overrun with elephants, and the elephants' watering hole is filled with hippos!
Ono[src]

When Makuu and his float took over Big Springs, they forced the hippopotamuses out of their natural habitat. This, in turn, caused the other species of the Pride Lands to shift habitats. This included the monkeys, whose forest got overrun by giraffes.[3]

Furaha annoys his troop.

Since he did not fit in with his troop, Furaha opted to live with his friends, Chama and Mzaha, instead. One day, the three attempted to settle near Rafiki's tree. Though Rafiki was reluctant to let them stay, he eventually gave in to their demands.

Later, the Lion Guard confronted the trio over why they were not with their herds, and they explained that they were outcasts. Rafiki insisted that it was their role in the Circle of Life to be with their own kinds, and so, they dejectedly agreed to return to their herds.

Chama, Furaha, and Mzaha rescue Makini and Rafiki from a fire.

Beshte and Ono escorted Furaha back to his troop, and Tumbili reluctantly accepted him back into the fold. However, when his troop got annoyed by his antics, Furaha exiled himself and reconvened with Chama and Mzaha. Together, the trio wreaked havoc across the Pride Lands. Once more, they approached Rafiki's tree, but he ordered them to leave him and his apprentice, Makini, to their work.

Shortly afterwards, a fire started near Rafiki's tree, trapping Makini and Rafiki in its branches. Just in time, Chama, Furaha, and Mzaha arrived and carried the mandrills to safety. They then worked to put out the fire, with some help from the Lion Guard. After the rescue, Rafiki thanked the young animals for their help and offered to let them stay at his tree, but they revealed that they had found a new home near Big Springs.[5]
