The meerkat territory is a territory of meerkats located on the outskirts of the Pride Lands. It is the former home of Timon and his colony and consists of underground tunnels.
Information[]
The Lion King 1½[]
The meerkats in this colony dig tunnels in constant fear of hyenas. One day, Timon attempts to build a skylight, but his efforts causes his colony's entire tunnel network to collapse. The rest of the meerkats are furious with him, but Ma comes to his defense and draws him aside for a chat. Once away from the rest of the colony, Ma chides Timon for having caused so many accidents in just one month, and Timon laments how meerkats only ever dug and hid. He tries to impress his dream of finding a better home on his mother, but she shows him the distant Pride Lands and reminds him that it belongs to someone else. She adds that it is nature's design.

The meerkats digging tunnels in constant fear of hyenas.
Just then, Max appears and begins to rave about how meerkats are "feared by no one and eaten by all." Though Ma gets annoyed by Max's excitableness, she admits that he is right and tries to think of a way to help Timon fit in. While she is thinking, she overhears Max asking the colony whose turn it was for sentry duty, and she gets the idea to nominate Timon for the job.
Ma proposes the idea to Max, but he worries that Timon would fail and get the colony killed. Ma argues that sentry duty is perfect for Timon, then asks the colony if they want Timon to go back on tunnel duty. In the face of their resounding refusal, she tells Timon to listen to Max and urges him to make this job work.

Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed invade the meerkat territory.
Timon obediently follows Max to a rock on the edge of the colony's turf and listens unenthusiastically as his uncle demonstrates how to "scurry," "sniff," and "flinch." Though Timon mocks Max for his fervent attitude, his uncle claps back that he would not be so amused when he got into danger.
Once Max leaves, Timon attempts to scurry, sniff, and flinch. However, while doing so, he begins to fantasize about his dream home and fails to notice three hyenas named Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed sneaking up on him. Before long, the three have him surrounded, and Shenzi claps sarcastically at the end of his performance. She then shoves him aside, and she and her companions dash past him to invade the colony. Meanwhile, Timon rolls down a hill and smacks into Max, who is initially angry at him but soon realizes that the meerkats are under attack.

Feeling that he does not fit in, Timon leaves the meerkat territory in search for his dream home.
In the midst of the chaos, Ma pulls Timon into the safety of a tunnel. Max nearly gets eaten by the hyenas but manages to escape down a hole just in time. From the safety of the underground, the meerkats turn their ire on Timon, who attempts to brush off his failures. However, he wilts when Max points out that he had trusted his nephew. The colony proceeds to leave Timon alone in the midst of the tunnel. Feeling that he does not fit in with the rest of the colony, Timon decides to depart in search for his dream home, but not without assuring to his mother that he will be alright.
Later, after Timon met Pumbaa and found his "dream home," Ma talks to Rafiki, who tells her about "Hakuna Matata." At first, she is confused, but Rafiki explains to her that it meant "no worries." He then informs her that he had told Timon "to look beyond what he sees." Ma mistakes Rafiki's words of wisdom for a metaphor, and when he tries to correct her, she gets angry at him and demands to know why he had used a metaphor on Timon. She then calls down to Max, telling him that she has to go save Timon. Max is not keen on the idea, but Ma is determined to go.
