The Lion King's Timon & Pumbaa[]

"Once Upon a Timon"[]

One day, while the Duke is away, leaving his daughter, Tatiana, alone in his castle with Fred tasked to guard the castle, Fred runs off to the grocery to get himself a snack. He then convinces Timon, who is guarding the back gate, that with the Duke gone for the day, he now has the opportunity to speak to Tatiana, knowing Timon has a massive crush on her. At first, Timon vetoes the idea of abandoning his post, as it will lead to him getting banished from the colony, but as Fred puts it, not if he does not get caught. When Fred returns to the castle, Timon thinks about Fred's words and figures he might be right.

OUAT Fred & colony

Fred guards the castle while the Duke is away.

Timon places a mop as a dummy in place of his spot and prepares for his date with Tatiana. Little does he know, a cobra sees that the back gate is unprotected and invades the meerkat colony, kidnapping Tatiana before Timon gets to see her. This saddens the entire colony as they believe Tatiana is dead. The Captain of the Guard, who guards the front gate, questions the possibility of the cobra's invasion, but when Fred points out that no one ever gets through the back gate, the meerkats realize that Timon abandoned his post.

OUAT Timon21

Timon goes in his cave to prepare to his date with Tatiana.

As Timon gets ready for his now-cancelled date, he is shocked by the colony's suspicion and runs off, with the guards giving chase. While he successfully escapes the guards, he gets caught by the Duke Meerkat. Having heard about his daughter's kidnapping and presumed death, the Duke puts Timon on trial for abandoning his post. As Timon is found guilty, he is sentenced to banishment, thus becoming an outcast from his colony. As Timon sadly leaves, he sees Fred guarding the back gate, indicating that he had been demoted for failing to protect the castle.

OUAT Timon & Fred6

Timon gets exiled from the kingdom.

Later, after Timon meets and befriends Pumbaa, who is also an outcast due to his gas problem, the two find Tatiana being held captive by the cobra in a lava pit. After Timon and Pumbaa rescue Tatiana and defeat the cobra, the three return to the meerkat kingdom, where a joyous celebration is being held. At the trial, all charges against Timon are dropped for the brave, cunning, and resourceful rescue of Tatiana, and as an added bonus, the Duke offers Timon the key to the city, and Tatiana offers her hand to him in marriage. After Pumbaa reminds him, Timon asks the Duke to declare Pumbaa an official member of the colony--but the Duke says that only meerkats are allowed to live in the colony, and gives Timon a choice between anything he could ever want (power, riches and love) or being Pumbaa's friend.

Timon chooses to be bestest best friends with Pumbaa, and as a result, Timon and Pumbaa are exiled from the kingdom. The duo decides that from that day forward, neither of them will worry about anything, and Pumbaa tells Timon about the name he knows for this philosophy: "Hakuna Matata."
