―Masego on Milele[src]

Masego was a male lion. He was the mate of Afia, with whom he had a son, Mufasa.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Masego lived in a desolate wasteland. He took a mate, Afia, with whom he had a son named Mufasa.[1]

Flash flood and death[]

Masego and Afia teach Mufasa about the fabled paradise of Milele.

As Mufasa grew up, Masego and Afia taught him about a fabled paradise called "Milele."

One day, it began to rain, which delighted Masego and his family. However, as Mufasa began to play in a nearby ravine, the rain escalated into dangerous floodwaters, and his parents called him back to them. Too late, he got swept into the floodwaters, and Masego leaped in after him. After catching up to him, Masego carried him to the side of the ravine and deposited him there. However, an elephant knocked into the rocks upon which Mufasa was standing, flinging him back into the flood. While Mufasa was carried far downstream from his parents, Masego perished in the flood.[1]

Legacy[]

Years later, when Mufasa was an adolescent, he reunited with Afia in Milele. He questioned what had happened to Masego, and she revealed that he had died. She added that he lived on in Mufasa.[1]

Physical appearance[]

Masego was a large and powerfully built lion with a wide, flat face. He had golden-brown fur, with a dark brown mane, a white muzzle, black lips, and small yellow eyes.[1]

Personality and traits[]

Masego was a kind and supportive father who enjoyed playing with his son. He was ultimately brave and self-sacrificial, as he gave his life to save Mufasa from a flash flood.[1]

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • Masego's name means "blessings" in Swahili.[3]
