Leopold is a male leopard. He is the king of the leopards. He is the father of Claudia and her two brothers.
After Claudia erroneously credited Timon and Pumbaa with saving her life, Leopold rewarded them and promoted them to be her bodyguards. During his duties, Timon tried to confess the truth to Leopold but could not bring himself to do it, as he was afraid of being punished. Eventually, Timon told Leopold the truth, and Leopold commended him for his honesty and ordered him to babysit Claudia's troublesome brothers instead.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Leopold lived in the jungle, where he ruled over the leopards as their king. At some point in his life, he fathered Claudia and two sons.[1]
Promoting Timon and Pumbaa[]
Leopold nearly attacks Timon and Pumbaa.
After a gorilla rescued Claudia from a hyena, she ran into Timon and Pumbaa. Leopold showed up and was about to attack the duo, but Claudia stopped him and told him that the two had saved her life. Leopold then revealed to the duo that he was the king of the leopards and offered them a reward for saving his daughter.
Timon and Pumbaa were pampered at Leopold's place. Pumbaa felt guilty about the misunderstanding, while Timon was happy to take advantage of Leopold's kindness. Meanwhile, Claudia wanted to go out and play with her father, but the king was too busy to do so. He instructed Timon and Pumbaa to become his daughter's bodyguards and told them that if they succeeded in their duties, there would be positions for them at the royal court. Pumbaa told Timon that they did not know how to be Claudia's bodyguards, but the meerkat said that they just had to try to keep the cub out of trouble and warned the warthog that they would get in trouble with Leopold if they did not do their job well.
Leopold scolds a younger leopard for not taking good care of Claudia.
Claudia took Timon and Pumbaa to a plain field, as she believed it to be a fun place since she never knew what she would run into. The ground then shook, and a herd of wildebeests stampeded toward the trio. While Pumbaa quickly went to the edge of a rock with Claudia, Timon got trampled by the herd twice.
Claudia then took Timon and Pumbaa to her favorite tree, as it was the home of the world's largest python. The python showed up and grabbed Timon, while Pumbaa and Claudia slid over the snake. Pumbaa suggested that Timon tell Leopold that they had not really saved Claudia from the hyena. Before Timon could tell Leopold the truth, the king dealt with another leopard, scolding and attacking him for not taking good care of Claudia. Worried by what he had seen, Timon decided not to tell Leopold the truth.
Claudia took Timon and Pumbaa to a cave. At first, Timon refused to enter. Then the princess told him that it had really big bugs inside. When Timon and Pumbaa followed Claudia into the cave, Timon got caught by a giant spider. After Pumbaa saved Timon from getting eaten, Claudia took the duo to a ravine. While the three were relaxing in the water, Timon got bitten by tigerfish and attacked by crocodiles. Pumbaa then made Timon try to tell Leopold the truth once again. However, the meerkat still hesitated to do so, as he was afraid of what Leopold would do if he found out.
Leopold tells Timon and Pumbaa that he admires honesty more than courage.
Claudia took Timon and Pumbaa to other parts of the jungle. Throughout the day, Timon had many accidents. Despite all the trouble Timon had gotten into during the adventures, he still refused to let Leopold know that he and Pumbaa had not really rescued Claudia from the hyena. Timon, Pumbaa, and Claudia then found themselves in an area of bull elephants, where a curse caused the skeletons of the elephants to come out of the ground and attack.
After getting trampled by the bull elephants, Timon decided to tell Leopold the truth. Leopold heard Timon's confession and was impressed, as he admired honesty more than courage. For setting a good example for Claudia, he gave Timon and Pumbaa a promotion, which was to look after his two sons, who, according to him, were naughtier than his daughter.[1]

Leopold loses his temper when a leopard fails to properly care for Claudia.
Leopold is an authoritative and dutiful king. He is also a kind-hearted and loving father to Claudia. It is hinted that he spends time playing with his daughter outside of his royal duties. Leopold rewards those who take care of Claudia, such as when he promoted Timon and Pumbaa for allegedly saving her life. Even more than courage, Leopold values honesty.
Despite his kind-hearted and respectful nature, Leopold can be short-tempered and aggressive. He scolded and attacked a younger leopard for failing to take good care of Claudia. He also became very annoyed with Timon for repeatedly interrupting him while he was in the middle of kingly duties.[1]
