Leader Wanted! is a German comic inspired by The Lion King. It was published by Ehapa Verlag on June 28, 2000.
Synopsis[]
One day, while relaxing in the jungle, Timon told Pumbaa that one of them should be the leader. Laughing, Pumbaa questioned if Timon thought that he, the tiny meerkat, should be in charge of the large warthog. Pumbaa went on that, as the biggest, he should be the leader instead. Getting an idea, Timon proposed that they hold a competition to determine which of them was more suitable for the role.
First, the friends attempted to prove their bravery by racing across a river full of crocodiles. Keeping pace with one another, they jumped across the crocodiles' backs, mocking them and spinning their tails. At last, the duo reached the shore, where they began to argue over which of them had won. Timon soon cut the argument short, reminding Pumbaa that they had crocodiles on their tail. Pumbaa joked back that the crocodiles had enjoyed their game less than they had.
Once they were safe, Timon and Pumbaa discussed the results of their race, concluding that they had tied. Wanting to conduct another test, they hopped onto the backs of some giraffes and initiated another race in which whoever dropped out first would lose.
As they were running, Timon spotted an oncoming gazelle stampede, and Pumbaa mocked him for being afraid. Timon countered that he felt like a fish in water on his giraffe and urged Pumbaa to do as he was doing. Suddenly, the giraffes ran past a low-hanging tree branch, which knocked Timon and Pumbaa off their backs. The pair struggled to hold on to the branch as the gazelles stampeded past below, and Pumbaa added a new rule to their game: whoever fell first would get trampled.
To the friends' fortune, the herd ran by, and they landed safely on the ground. Afterwards, Timon proposed that their next challenge be a race across a river full of hippopotamuses. As the duo began their race, Timon exclaimed that whoever jumped on the fat hippopotamus first would be the winner. However, when the pair jumped onto the hippopotamus' back, it tossed them over a waterfall.
Before the friends could fall into the pool below, Timon caught himself on an overhanging tree branch, while Pumbaa landed on a rock that was jutting out of the falls. Timon declared another draw, and Pumbaa questioned how they would figure out which of them was the leader now. Timon replied that he had an idea. Come nightfall, he suggested that they jump off the waterfall in the dark so they would not see who landed first, and Pumbaa concurred, exclaiming that they would never know which of them was the leader.
