Some time after the battle for Pride Rock, the Kumbuka celebration was conceived to honor Simba's victory over Scar and subsequent succession of the throne of the Pride Lands. The ceremony takes place at Pride Rock, where the Pride Landers gather to pay homage to Simba and the royal family. Rafiki presides over the celebration.[1]

On the day of the Kumbuka celebration, the spirit of Scar plotted against Simba, relishing the irony of turning the festivities into the day of Simba's defeat. He sent Sumu the scorpion, a member of the Army of Scar, to Pride Rock to kill Simba.
In the midst of the Kumbuka celebration, Sumu stung Simba, who collapsed unconscious. As a result, the Kumbuka celebration was broken up. Luckily, the Lion Guard retrieved the cure for the wound before Simba could perish.[1]
