The stage musical version of The Lion King uses many sections of score from "King of Pride Rock". However, instead of being one cue, the score is split into two parts, "Finale - Part 1" and "Finale - Part 2".[10] The original cast recording includes a rendition of the latter section of the score, called "King of Pride Rock / Circle of Life (Reprise)".[11] This version of the score includes additional Zulu lyrics as Simba ascends Pride Rock. The complete album was released in 1997.[12]
Use[]
In the canon[]
The first notes of "King of Pride Rock" can be heard after Scar calls Sarabi to Pride Rock. The track plays through their heated confrontation on the peak and carries into Simba's revelation to the pride that he is still alive. Parts of Scar's verbal confrontation with Simba can be heard before the track skips to the start of the rainstorm that signifies the end of the final battle. At this point, the track documents Simba's triumphant ascension up Pride Rock and ends on the final reprise of "Circle of Life" heard at the conclusion of the film.[13]
In other media[]
"King of Pride Rock" was reimagined for the 2019 remake of The Lion King. It plays during Simba's coronation and into his cub's presentation.[14]
A reimagined version of "King of Pride Rock" is heard in the 1994 video game The Lion King. There are two slightly different versions of the score: one for Genesis and one for SNES.[15]
