He thinks he's brave enough to fight Kenge! Biggest lizard in the Outlands!
―Kenge on Bunga[src]

Kenge is a male monitor lizard. He is a member of the Army of Scar.

Ushari recruited Kenge to help Scar and his army steal tikiti melons from the Pride Landers. Using his venomous bite, Kenge paralyzed the members of the Lion Guard, save Bunga, and retreated with his followers into Embamba Canyon. There, Bunga and Makini confronted him, and Bunga used Kenge's trigger word, "little," to send him into a frenzy that took out his companions. In the midst of the fight, Kion arrived and blew Kenge away with the Roar of the Elders.

Kenge lived in the Outlands. At some point in his life, he befriended Ushari.[1]

Attack on the Lion Guard[]

Don't worry. We're not friends. Enough chit-chat! Time to find the Lion Guard.
―Kenge to Janja's clan[src]

Kenge uses his venomous bite to paralyze three members of the Lion Guard.

Janja and his clan returned to their den, where they explained to Scar and Ushari that they had tried to take some tikiti melons but had been thwarted by the Lion Guard. After hearing Janja's story, Scar deduced that destroying the melon supply could offset the Circle of Life, as it would dehydrate the elephants, who needed the tikiti melons. He ordered the hyenas to return to the fruit patch. Janja protested the idea as foolishness, but Ushari volunteered to connect them with a powerful friend of his who could help them. He then boasted of his friend Kenge's great speed and deadly bite.

Once back in the Pride Lands, the hyenas met Kenge for the first time. They were thoroughly intimidated by his massive size and strength, and asked him if he would help them find the Lion Guard. Kenge merely declared that he was going to wait until they found him.

Kenge orders Janja and his minions, Cheezi and Chungu, to roll their melons through Embamba Canyon.

Later that day, Ono spotted a skirmish at the watering hole, and the Lion Guard arrived to find Kenge making a scene. The team leaped into battle, but Kenge managed to bite Kion, Fuli, and Beshte, paralyzing them. Just in time, Bunga stepped in and broke wind in Kenge's face, which caused the lizard and his hyena minions to retreat.

At the melon patch, Kenge quickly assumed authority over the hyenas, ordering them to roll the melons out of the patch. Just in time, Bunga and Ono arrived, with Bunga taking on Kenge, while Ono stopped the hyenas from stealing the melons. At first, the two seemed to succeed in their endeavor, but then Kenge managed to bite Ono on the wing, paralyzing him and effectively removing him from the fight. Bunga attacked Kenge but was bitten himself, which allowed Kenge and his hyena allies to escape with the melons. However, once the danger was over, Bunga realized that he was immune to Kenge's venom.

Bunga uses Kenge's trigger word, "little," to spin him into a fury.

Bunga and Makini followed Kenge and the hyenas to Embamba Canyon, where Bunga distracted the thieves, while Makini stole their melons and hid them behind rocks. While ridiculing his enemies, Bunga stumbled upon Kenge's trigger word, "little." He used the word to his advantage, spinning Kenge into a fury and causing him to chase Bunga around the canyon. In his attempts to catch Bunga, Kenge accidentally bit Cheezi and Chungu, paralyzing them. He nearly bit Janja when a melon was thrown his way and turned his attention to Makini. She threw her bakora staff at him to keep him back, but he simply snapped it in half with his teeth.

Just then, a fully healed Lion Guard approached. The hyenas attempted to run but were hindered by their paralyzed legs. Taking advantage of this, Kion used the Roar of the Elders to blast Kenge and the hyenas back to the Outlands.[1]

Defeat in the volcano[]

Kenge attempted to take down the Lion Guard along with the rest of the Army of Scar. He was defeated when Kion used the Roar of the Elders to clear a path out of the volcano.[2]

Physical appearance[]

Kenge is a massive monitor lizard. He has light green scales, with darker stripes on his back. He has brown eyes.[1]

Personality and traits[]

Kenge is authoritative, fierce, and aggressive. He does not take kindly to being called a "little lizard" and dislikes any mention of the word "little." He does not make friends with those he works with but is willing to collaborate in order to achieve a common goal. Kenge is also very cocky and takes pride in his venomous bite and great strength.[1]

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • Kenge's name means "monitor lizard" in Swahili.[4]
  • Kenge is similar to Ora from The Lion Guard; both are giant venomous lizards who do not like taking orders from others.[5]
