"Hyenas in the Pride Land" is a musical piece composed by Hans Zimmer for The Lion King. It was released on June 24, 2014, as part of The Legacy Collection: The Lion King.
Use[]
In the soundtracks[]
"Hyenas in the Pride Land" was first released under the title "Hyenas In The Prideland - Our Little Secret", as part of the complete film score. However, the album was retracted after one day. On June 24, 2014, The Legacy Collection: The Lion King was released, with "Hyenas In The Prideland - Our Little Secret" having been remixed and released as "Hyenas in the Pride Land".
In the film[]
"Hyenas in the Pride Land" can be heard from when Scar "warns" Simba about the Elephant Graveyard to the beginning of "I Just Can't Wait to be King". However, the first minute of the song, which sounds rather dark and uses the "Hyenas" theme, does not appear in the film. Instead, a statement of Simba's theme plays.
Behind the scenes[]
- A large portion of the final score is omitted from the film. The first use of the hyenas' theme is instead replaced with a statement of Simba's theme taken from "Nala & Simba", and after that is finished, the music is dialed out until Simba goes to see Nala.
- When Zazu tells Simba and Nala that they are betrothed, flute notes from "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" can be heard in the cue. In addition, a reference to the "Lala" theme can be heard, and a statement from "I Just Can't Wait to be King" can be heard in some of the final few notes.
- In this version, the tail-end of the score can be heard at the beginning of "I Just Can't Wait to be King".
