Simba's coronation was the ceremony in which Simba officially assumed the title of king of Pride Rock and took his rightful place in the Circle of Life.

Information[]

Battle for Pride Rock[]

Simba: Run. Run away, Scar. And never return.
Scar: Yes. Of course. As you wish, Your Majesty!

Scar is betrayed by the hyenas.

During the battle for Pride Rock, Simba cornered Scar at the summit of Pride Rock, ready to avenge Mufasa's death. Unaware that Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed were listening, Scar attempted to place the blame for the conflict on the hyenas. Simba refused to believe his uncle, but admitted that he could not kill him, so instead he exiled him from the Pride Lands.

Unwilling to accept this punishment, Scar hurled hot embers into Simba's eyes and attacked him, provoking a brutal fight between both lions. Just as Scar was about to deliver the killing blow, Simba threw him off Pride Rock. Scar survived the fall but was surrounded by the hyenas, who, despite their former leader's pleas, devoured him alive for his betrayal.[1]

The ceremony[]

Remember.
Mufasa's spirit to Simba[src]

As the battle cleared, rain drenched the Pride Lands, extinguishing the fire. Simba descended Pride Rock and silently greeted his friends, his mother, and the pride. Just then, Rafiki rattled his bakora staff to get Simba's attention and motioned for him to ascend Pride Rock.[1] On his way to meet Rafiki, Simba paused to embrace Timon and Pumbaa and thank them for their help.[2]

Simba then faced Rafiki, who bowed, only for Simba to pull him into a hug. Rafiki then told Simba that "it [wa]s time." As his friends looked on, Simba ascended Pride Rock. When he reached the promontory, he lifted his eyes to the heavens. There, he spotted a patch of stars shining through a hole in the rain clouds. At that moment, he heard the voice of Mufasa say, "Remember." His confidence renewed, Simba roared out over the Pride Lands, and the rest of the pride roared in return.[1]

Down below, Timon struggled not to cry as he watched Simba's ascension alongside his mother and uncle. Ma asked Timon if he had found what he was looking for, to which he replied that though he had found a place beyond his wildest dreams, it still was not home. Shortly after the coronation, Timon and Pumbaa led Timon's colony to the jungle where they and Simba had once lived.[2]

Trivia[]

  • As Simba descends from Pride Rock after Scar's death, Zazu is shown mouthing, "Your majesty." This is a trace of a line he was intended to say at that point in the film but was cut so as not to distract from the solemnity of the scene. However, the line was restored in the 2019 remake.[3]
