"Father's Footsteps" is a musical piece composed by Hans Zimmer for The Lion King. It was unofficially released as part of The Lion King (Complete Score).
Use[]
In the soundtracks[]
"Father's Footsteps" was unofficially released as part of the complete film score, shortly after the release of the film's soundtrack.
On June 24, 2014, The Legacy Collection: The Lion King was released, with "Father's Footsteps" having been remixed and released under the title "I Was Just Trying to Be Brave".
In the film[]
"Father's Footsteps" can be heard during the scene in which Mufasa scolds Simba for disobeying him and teaches him about the Great Kings of the Past. The track picks up when Simba steps into his father's paw print and ends after Mufasa's story about the stars.
Behind the scenes[]
- The music heard at the beginning of the score is almost identical to notes heard in "If You Ever Come Back We'll Kill You".
- The cue can be heard in The Lion King 1½ twice: the first time when Ma explains to Timon that everything the light touches belongs to somebody else, and the second time after Simba and Nala fight and Mufasa's ghost appears in the sky.[1]
- The score's cue in the film is "3M7 'Father's Footsteps'".
