"Early Bird Watchers" begins by introducing Timon, a [[meerkat]] and his [[warthog]] friend Pumbaa. At the start of the episode, Timon goes after a worm, but then an early bird eats it, which makes Timon angry. Pumbaa tells him that the early bird always catches the worm, but Timon suggests that he uses an alarm clock to wake him up before the early bird. The next morning, the alarm clock rings really loudly. Timon tries to figure out a way to turn it off until Pumbaa breaks it with a mallet. Timon sees that the early bird beat him again.

At night, Timon asks a chicken, or rooster as he calls it, to wake him up before the early bird. When morning arises, Timon sees the early bird catching the worm, meaning he beat him again. Timon fires the chicken for not doing his job and then uses a phone to call someone to wake him up before the early bird. During the night while Timon and Pumbaa are sleeping, Timon gets calls from various people. Later, the phone rings and Pumbaa answers it. The phone is for Timon to let him know that it's time for him to wake up. When the meerkat wakes up, he sees the early bird catching the worm.

Timon gets an idea to defeat the early bird. First he makes him and Pumbaa use instruments to make the early bird wake up after him. The two get tired and the early bird catches the worm. Timon then makes Pumbaa put a worm suit on to trick the early bird into thinking Pumbaa is a worm. However, when Pumbaa gets to the worm hole, a vulture catches the warthog.
