The clock tower is a landmark in Switzerland. It is owned by Fronk Fegnugen.
While visiting Switzerland, Timon and Pumbaa convinced Fronk to go on vacation and thus briefly abandon his duties as the keeper of the clock. In Fronk's absence, the clock broke, and Fronk's rival, Clockwork Quint, declared that Fronk would lose his job if the clock was not repaired by noon. Wanting to escape the town, whose transportation relied heavily on the clock, Timon and Pumbaa urged Fronk to return and fix the clock. Despite his best efforts, Fronk declared the clock irreparable. Shortly before noon, Clockwork Quint showed up to steal Fronk's job, only for Timon and Pumbaa to pose as mechanical animals on the clock and thus trick Quint into believing that it had been fixed. As a result, Fronk retained his job as the keeper of the clock.
History[]
Background[]
The clock tower was cherished and relied upon by the townspeople of a Swiss village, as it kept transportation running on time for a century. It also survived eight fires, two floods, and three wars. At one point, Fronk Fegnugen was chosen by the townspeople to be the keeper of the clock, to the dismay of his rival, Clockwork Quint.[1]
Repaired by Fronk Fegnugen[]
The clock tower rings nine o'clock.
During Timon and Pumbaa's vacation in Switzerland, they ate bugs covered in Swiss chocolate. Timon wanted to eat his very favorite confection last, but the nearby clock tower rang nine o'clock, and the townspeople rushed by, almost making him drop his treat. He believed that the people were rushing because they were unable to relax and live according to the "Hakuna Matata" lifestyle. He went on that he could help anyone adopt the "no worries" lifestyle but would not do so unless one of the villagers directly affected his life in some way.
At that moment, Fronk Fegnugen opened a window, causing Timon to splatter his chocolate-covered bug. While Fronk went to check on the clock, Pumbaa told Timon that Fronk had directly affected him. Because of this, Timon made an effort to stop Fronk from going about his business. Fronk, however, refused to take the meerkat's advice, telling him that his duty affected lives other than his own.
The clock breaks as soon as Fronk leaves.
Though Timon insisted that something was missing from Fronk's life and that he needed to relax and kiss a girl, Fronk continued to repair the clock. Timon and Pumbaa then sent Fronk on a vacation to lead a "Hakuna Matata" life, insisting that the clock would be fine without him for a little while. However, the clock malfunctioned the moment Fronk left, and the clock inspector, Clockwork Quint, drove up to ensure that it was in excellent condition. Upon not finding Fronk, Clockwork Quint issued an order that the clock must be working by noon, else Fronk would lose his job as a timekeeper. Timon told Pumbaa that they could fix the clock, but after a number fell from its face, he suggested that they leave town.
The friends waited at the train station, then at the hot air balloon station, but no one returned to sell them a ticket because they were relying on the clock's time. Timon finally realized that he and Pumbaa needed to tell Fronk about the predicament so that he could repair the clock; otherwise, not only would Fronk lose his job, but they would never be able to leave the town.
Timon poses as a mechanical animal in order to save Fronk's job.
Timon and Pumbaa found Fronk skiing in the Alps with his new sweetheart, Frieda, who also loved the clock. Fronk and Frieda harbored dreams of their future together, but Timon and Pumbaa had to break the news that the clock was in need of repairs and that Fronk was in danger of losing his job to Clockwork Quint. The four quickly skied down the mountain, through a chapel so that Fronk and Frieda could wed, then into the clock tower. Fronk believed the clock was irreparable and blamed Timon for having made him take a break. Just then, Pumbaa got an idea.
Shortly before noon, Clockwork Quint returned in the hopes that he would be able to take Fronk's job. However, at the stroke of noon, Timon and Pumbaa performed the jobs of the mechanical animals that had previously been on the tower. Enraged, Clockwork Quint departed, leaving Fronk as the clock's keeper.[1]
