"Bye Bye" is a song composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda for Mufasa: The Lion King. It was released on December 13, 2024, as part of the film's official soundtrack and Deluxe Edition soundtrack.
Conception and development[]
Initially, Mufasa: The Lion King did not have a villain song. However, Lin-Manuel Miranda pitched the idea to director Barry Jenkins, in part because he was inspired by Mads Mikkelsen's performance as Kiros.[1] He watched a clip of Mikkelsen performing a number from The Pajama Game on Med kjærlig hilsen to confirm that he could sing.[2]

Lin-Manuel Miranda composed and wrote the lyrics for "Bye Bye". The song was released on December 13, 2024, as part of the original motion picture soundtrack of Mufasa: The Lion King as well as its Deluxe Edition. Mads Mikkelsen performed the song, with back-up vocals provided by Joanna Jones and Folake Olowofoyeku.[3][4]

"Bye Bye" is the fourth of seven songs heard in Mufasa: The Lion King. It begins as Kiros confronts Obasi's pride and reveals his intention to massacre every lion pride in the Valley of Kings. The song concludes with the Outsiders advancing on Obasi's pride, intent on wiping them out.[5]
