Antelope attend the presentation of Simba, where they pay their respects to the future heir of the Pride Lands. They make their second appearance when Mufasa is explaining to his son that antelope are just as much a part of the Circle of Life as lions. Along with other animals, they sing "I Just Can't Wait to Be King". Later, they are mentioned by Simba when he asks Timon and Pumbaa what kind of prey resides in the jungle. Antelope are last seen at Pride Rock for the presentation of Simba's cub.

Antelope come to the presentation of Kiara. They are seen again during the "We Are One" musical sequence when Simba and his daughter race across the Pride Lands. Later, they make a brief appearance during Kiara's first hunt. Along with their fellow animals, they sing "One of Us", during which they help to drive Kovu out of the Pride Lands. They appear again during "Love Will Find a Way", during which Kiara enviously watches a pair of antelope nuzzle. At the end of the film, they journey back to Pride Rock to celebrate the union of the Outsiders and the Pride Landers.

One day, Kiara practiced tracking gazelles with her friend, Tiifu. Though Tiifu wondered if they were going to attack the herd, Kiara explained that they should only take what they needed so as to preserve the gazelle population. Just then, Kiara noticed Janja's clan sneaking toward the gazelle herd and ordered Tiifu to inform her father, Simba, of the situation.

Once Tiifu had gone, Janja's clan launched an attack on the gazelle herd, and the newly formed Lion Guard arrived to stop them. While on a morning patrol for Kiara, Ono spotted a herd of elands migrating east along the river as well as a new cluster of beehives in the herd's path. Deducing that the herd would run into the bee colony, Kiara ordered the Lion Guard to divert the elands away from the beehives. In an attempt to rebel against his sister, Kion instead attempted to move the beehives, but this merely resulted in the bees chasing the Lion Guard. While fleeing the bees, the Lion Guard collided with the eland herd, and the bees swarmed the downed animals.

When the grazing ground of Muhimu's herd and Swala's herd shrunk to a small patch of grass, the two groups began to fight over who had rights to the field. Upon spotting the fight, the Lion Guard intervened and implored the herds to share, only to realize that there was not enough food to go around. Kion asked Simba for advice, and Simba advised him to lead the herds on a migration to Mbali Fields.

  +
With Kion in the lead, the two herds migrated across the Pride Lands en route to Mbali Fields. Eventually, the animals reached a canyon, and Muhimu's herd impatiently bolted into it. Not wanting to be outdone, Swala's herd followed, and the Lion Guard scrambled to reassert order. As the herds raced through the canyon, a pile of rocks fell into their path and blocked the way to Mbali Fields.

With nowhere else to go, Kion opted to lead the herds through the Outlands. However, as the group set out again, a storm hit, and a flash flood forced the animals to make a break for higher ground. Through a combined effort, the Lion Guard saved those gazelles and zebras who could not escape the floodwaters, and the animals reconvened on dry ground.
The Lion Guard rushes down the slope to put a stop to the fight, but once there, Bunga gets sat on by an actively fighting Muhimu. Despite the honey badger's predicament, the two herd leaders continue squabbling until Kion steps forward, roaring for silence. With the herds now paying attention, he and Beshte point out that the grazing grounds in the Pride Lands are open to everyone, but Muhimu and Swala explain that there's only one small patch of grass left for them to share.

  +
Once the storm had passed, the gazelles and zebras began to criticize Kion's leadership, particularly his choice to lead them through the canyon. However, Muhimu took the blame for running into the canyon and reasserted her faith in Kion. This convinced the others to trust Kion's plan to lead them through the Outlands.
Kion goes to his father, Simba, for advice, and the king advises his son to take the herds to Mbali Fields, a grazing ground on the edge of the Pride Lands. A shocked Kion wonders if he is adept enough to lead a migration, but Simba assures him that he will do fine.

Across the Pride Lands, Bunga announces to the herds that they're going to be taken across the Pride Lands to Mbali Fields. During his announcement, he runs into Muhimu, but she refuses to acknowledge that she'd sat on him earlier. She then tells Bunga that her need to reach the grazing ground is imperative.

  +
Together, the herds and the Lion Guard entered the Outlands. While they were passing through, Muhimu went into labor, and Kion decided to split his team. While Beshte, Fuli, and Ono continued escorting the herds to Mbali Fields, Bunga and Kion lingered behind to help Muhimu give birth. Swala likewise opted to remain by Muhimu's side.

With the help of Swala and several zebras, Muhimu gave birth to a son. No sooner had the foal been born when he brayed loudly, which attracted the attention of Janja, Cheezi, and Chungu. At first, Swala and the zebras panicked, but Kion commanded them to protect Muhimu and her foal while he and Bunga fought the hyenas. Though Bunga and Kion managed to distract Cheezi and Chungu, Janja broke through their defense and nearly attacked Swala and the zebras. Before he could do so, the foal kicked him in the face, and the hyenas retreated. With the danger abated, Bunga and Kion led Swala and the zebras to Mbali Fields, where they reconvened with the rest of their herds.
Meanwhile, Ono reports back to Kion about a route they can take to Mbali Fields. With a proud Kion in the lead, the herds set out, following Kion through the Pride Lands.

Eventually, the herds make it to a canyon, where Kion attempts to encourage the gazelles and zebras through their fatigue and hunger. Ono then assures Kion that they're close, though he voices his worries about an oncoming storm. Nne and Tano plotted with their clan leader, Janja, to distract the Lion Guard by attacking a herd of antelope, only to switch targets to a herd of oryxes. In order to enact the plan, the hyenas started a stampede of sable antelope. Then, once the Lion Guard had taken the bait, they switched to chasing a herd of oryxes. During the chase, Nne and Tano ran Janja off a cliff and continued the hunt on their own.

  +
Once the Lion Guard caught on that nothing was chasing the sable antelope, they confronted Janja about the attack, and he relayed Nne and Tano's plan. At the same time, Nne and Tano cornered the oryx herd in a dead-end canyon and began to advance on them. Just in time, the Lion Guard arrived, and Kion used the Roar of the Elders to blow the hyenas away.
A frantic Lion Guard attempts to stop them, but, too late, a huge pile of rocks falls into the midst of the canyon, blocking the way into Mbali Fields. As more rocks continue to fall, Bunga leaps onto Muhimu, rescuing her, and she realizes that he has just saved her life. Meanwhile, Kion realizes that they must scout out another route, for the rocks are unmovable. Ono rushes to fulfill this new command, but when he returns to Kion, he admits that the only other way to Mbali Fields takes them through the Outlands. Grimly, Kion accepts their fate.

Purported Zimwi attack
As the herds set out, the storm breaks over the canyon, and the combined herds begin to complain about Kion's leadership. No sooner have they finished griping when a flash flood forces the herds to race to higher ground. While on patrol with the Lion Guard, Simba declared that Swala's herd needed their help. Upon drawing nearer to the herd, Ono observed that the gazelles were standing near an unstable pile of rocks and deduced that they must be trying to find a route up the pile to a nearby grazing ground. Concerned that the rocks might fall if the gazelles tried to climb up them, Simba bade the Lion Guard follow him and help warn the gazelles of the danger. However, as the Lion Guard ran toward Swala's herd, the gazelles panicked and began to climb up the rock pile. One day, while flying with Hadithi, Ono spotted several klipspringers being cornered on a cliff by Janja, Cheezi, and Chungu. Though he urged Hadithi to help him save the klipspringers, Hadithi insisted that the klipspringers could escape and left Ono to fight off the hyenas alone.

  +
As Ono attempted to save the klipspringers, to no avail, the rest of the Lion Guard arrived to assist him. While Bunga and Kion confronted Janja, Beshte created a rock bridge for the klipspringers to escape across, and Fuli helped guide them across the divide. However, as the klipspringers were crossing the bridge, one tripped, and the hyenas lunged at it. Just in time, Hadithi and Ono distracted the hyenas, and the klipspringer was able to reach safety.
Together, Bunga and Kion distract Cheezi and Chungu, but Janja manages to break through their defense to attack the zebras. However, he is kicked in the face by Muhimu's foal, and the hyenas scramble to get away, having been bested by the herds' teamwork. With the hyenas defeated, the Lion Guard leads the rest of the gazelles and zebras home, where Bunga plays happily with Muhimu's foal.

When a series of rainstorms hit the Pride Lands, the sable antelope's grazing grounds flooded. Ono spotted the herd standing in knee-deep water and reported the problem to the Lion Guard. Together, the team traveled to the sable antelope's grazing grounds and implored them to follow them to drier ground. Though at first resistant to obeying the Lion Guard, Bupu eventually gave in, and his herd followed the Lion Guard to the edge of the Flood Plains.

  +
While waiting for Beshte to make a hippo lane, the herd sat down stubbornly and refused to listen to Fuli's orders. Eventually, Fuli spoke politely enough to Bupu that he relented and led his herd through the hippo lanes. For the annual Savannah Summit, Simba invited several Pride Lander leaders to Pride Rock, including Bupu. Makuu was the last to arrive, and this caused a stir among the other Pride Landers, as they did not trust him due to his sullied past. With Simba and Zazu in the lead, the animals proceeded to Mizimu Grove for the duration of the Summit.

  +
Later, Makuu attempted to explain to Bupu that crocodiles merely slept during the dry season, but Bupu insisted that the crocodiles would pretend to be asleep so that the antelope would let down their guards. When Makuu reminded Bupu that the Summit was about negotiating in good faith, Bupu scoffed at the notion of good faith with a crocodile and attacked Makuu. At that moment, the Lion Guard arrived, and Kion scolded Makuu. Makuu iterated that he had been trying to speak with Bupu but that it was a waste of time to talk to a "jumpy antelope," and Bupu agreed, then attacked Makuu again. Though Makuu tried to retaliate, Kion scolded him again, and he reluctantly backed off. Bupu likewise left the scene.

In another incident, Mtoto overheard Makuu speaking with Bupu at Pride Rock, and the Lion Guard rushed off to handle the situation. Without waiting to see what was going on, Kion tackled Makuu. Frustrated, Simba explained that they had been about to reach an agreement for the crocodiles to sleep near the antelope's watering hole, but Makuu refused to negotiate any more, as the others did not trust him. Though Simba encouraged Bupu to try again later, Bupu argued that negotiating was clearly not the crocodile way.
Simba declares that a herd of gazelles need their help. The Lion Guard then follows his lead down the slope to rescue the gazelles. Ono reports that the gazelles are trying to reach a patch of grass above an unstable pile of rocks. Simba comments that the rocks will fall if the gazelles try to ascend them and then shouts for the Lion Guard to follow him. As Simba races away, Beshte asks the others if they should warn Simba that gazelles are easily spooked, but Bunga assures him that Simba know what he's doing.

  +
That evening, Kion reported to the Savannah Summit that Makuu had lost his life, and Bupu lamented how close they had been to reaching a deal. Just then, Makuu revealed himself and asserted that he had agreed to attend the Summit so that he could help his float and the Pride Lands but that he had received nothing but distrust and hostility in return. However, instead of reacting with anger, he prompted Simba to continue the Summit. With relations between Makuu and the others restored, Bupu and Vuruga Vuruga argued over whose territory the crocodiles should sleep in.
The team streaks across the plains toward the gazelles, who shy away at the Guard's rapid advance. The herd begins to climb the rock pile, dislodging stones, and Ono yells for the Lion Guard to halt their approach. A young sable antelope named Mzaha left his herd and took up residence at Rafiki's tree with his friends, Chama and Furaha. When the trio became too rowdy and disruptive, Rafiki complained to the Lion Guard, and they, in turn, convinced the friends to return to their respective groups. While with his herd, Mzaha attempted to play tag, but Bupu warned him that he was disturbing the other antelope's grazing and reminded him that antelope were not "silly creatures." Wanting to be around animals like him, Mzaha left his herd and reunited with Chama and Furaha. Later, the three friends saved Rafiki's tree from a fire. Bupu's herd attended Makini's mpando mpaya at Mizimu Grove. In the midst of the ceremony, the Army of Scar attacked the Pride Landers, but the Lion Guard rallied the herds against them. Along with the galagos, the sable antelope followed Fuli and Ono into battle against the Outlanders. Suddenly, Scar himself manifested in a fire, and the Pride Landers fled Mizimu Grove in terror. She then led them back to Mizimu Grove.

Once the herds had reconvened at Mizimu Grove, they expressed a desire to leave the Pride Lands due to Scar's threat. The next morning, they gathered at Pride Rock to announce their decisions to Simba, but Kion implored them to first follow him to Mizimu Grove. When we die, our bodies become the grass, and the antelope eat the grass... And so, we are all connected in the great Circle of Life.
Mufasa explains the Circle of Life[src]

Antelope are a species of animal native to the Pride Lands. There are several variations of antelope, including bushbucks, elands, gazelles, impalas, klipspringers, oryxes, and sable antelope. They feed on grass and are preyed upon by cheetahs, hyenas, leopards, and lions.

History

Simba's presentation

Several species of antelope attended the presentation of Simba, the prince heir of Pride Rock.[1]

Famine

Under Scar's reign, the Pride Lands suffered a famine. Along with the other Pride Landers, the antelope herds abandoned the kingdom. However, once Simba became king and restored the Pride Lands to its former glory, the antelope herds returned.[1]

Kiara's presentation

Several species of antelope attended the presentation of Kiara, the princess heir of Pride Rock.[2]

Janja's attack on a gazelle herd

The hyenas! They're attacking the gazelles!
Bunga warns Kion of Janja's attack on the gazelles[src]
ReturnoftheRoar840

Janja's clan attacks a herd of gazelles.

After the hyenas' defeat, the gazelles continued stampeding and nearly trampled Kiara. However, Bunga intervened by using his stink, which caused the gazelles to scatter and run away.[3]

Janja's attack on an oryx herd

Lion Guard, calm the herd!
―Kion, after Janja's clan attacks a herd of oryxes[src]

One day, Janja and his cronies, Cheezi and Chungu, invaded the Pride Lands and attacked a herd of oryxes. Just in time, the Lion Guard intervened. While Kion chased the hyenas back into the Outlands, his teammates calmed the oryx herd.[4]

Habitat disruption

Not only have the giraffes taken over the monkeys' forest, the acacia savanna where the giraffe live is full of zebra and antelope, the zebra and antelope grazing ground is overrun with elephants, and the elephants' watering hole is filled with hippos!
Ono, after Makuu's invasion of Big Springs disrupts the Circle of Life[src]

A herd of gazelles attended the mashindano between Makuu and Pua. After Makuu's victory, he and his float invaded Big Springs, which forced the gazelles out of their territory and into that of the giraffes'. Eventually, the Lion Guard convinced Makuu to leave, and the gazelles returned to their normal grazing ground.[5]

Bunga's bad advice

Hapana! Those pink flowers will make them sick.
―Ono, as some bushbucks eat flowers[src]

Upon declaring himself a sage, Bunga began doling out bad advice to the Pride Landers. In following Bunga's advice, a herd of bushbucks attempted to eat a field of poisonous flowers, but the Lion Guard stopped them. Shortly afterward, they saved an oryx, who had followed Bunga's advice to try jumping across a cliff.[6]

Lion Guard's collision with an eland herd

The bees are building hives on the path along the river. The elands use that same path. If the elands step on the beehives, they'll get stung. The herd would break up, and there could be chaos.
―Kiara, after hearing Ono's report on the Pride Lands[src]
Can'tWaittobeQueen265

The Lion Guard collides with a herd of elands.

After the attack, the Lion Guard rounded up most of the elands, though some were loath to follow their orders.[7]

Kupatana

Several species of antelope attended the Kupatana celebration. In the midst of the ceremony, Reirei's pack attacked, but the Pride Landers worked together to defeat them. Once the jackals had fled, the Pride Landers resumed their celebration and feasted on baobab blossoms.[8]

Fuli's hunting attempts

Fuli: But the gazelle got away!
Nala: Of course it did. We're still training for Kiara's first hunt.
Fuli and Nala, during a practice tracking session[src]

Fuli attempted to hunt gazelles several times, only to get continually interrupted by her friends. At one point, she and Kiara snuck up on a gazelle, but Nala called for a halt and explained that they had merely been practicing Kiara's tracking skills. Frustrated that they were not hunting to eat, Fuli fled to hunt solo.[9]

Oryx fight

Duck: I need the Lion Guard! The oryxes are fighting!
Fuli: Calm down. Oryxes fight all the time.
Duck: But they're fighting near our nests! If they're not stopped, they'll trample our eggs!
—A duck appeals to Fuli for help[src]

When two oryxes began fighting near some duck nests, one of the ducks appealed to Fuli for help. After racing to the scene of the fight, Fuli ordered the oryxes to leave, and they fled.[10]

Janja's attack on an impala herd

Impalas, what are you waiting for? Hyenas are coming. Escape to the Outlands.
Tamaa impersonates Kion under orders from Janja[src]

One day, Janja, Cheezi, and Chungu chased a herd of impalas in the Pride Lands, only to get thwarted by the Lion Guard. Later, they forced a drongo named Tamaa to impersonate Kion's voice and tell the impalas to run into the Outlands. At first, the herd ignored him. However, when Thurston panicked and ran away, they followed him. As one, the impalas stampeded into a dead-end canyon, and the hyenas advanced on them. Just in time, the Lion Guard arrived and drove off the hyenas, after which they escorted the impalas back into the Pride Lands.[11]

Lion Guard's rescue of a gazelle calf

He's fine. But his hoof is stuck under a heavy rock!
―Ono on a gazelle calf[src]

When a gazelle calf got his hoof trapped beneath a rock, the Lion Guard attempted to save him. During the rescue attempt, Bunga and the gazelle calf began to slide down a steep slope, and Kion grabbed hold of Bunga, slowing the two's momentum before they could fall off a cliff. Once the gazelle calf was safe, Ono led him back to his herd.[12]

Mbali Fields migration

Mbali Fields. That's where the zebras and gazelles can find their grass.
―Simba[src]
MuhiSwalafight

The gazelles and zebras fight over a grazing ground.

Placewecanstay

The Lion Guard leads the gazelles and zebras on a migration to Mbali Fields.

MbaliFields

The gazelles and zebras settle into their new home in Mbali Fields.

With the danger abated, Bunga and Kion led Swala and the zebras to Mbali Fields, where they reconvened with the rest of their herds.[13]

Lion Guard's rescue of sable antelope

The Lion Guard freed some sable antelope who were stuck in mud.[14]

Nne and Tano's plot against an oryx herd

Then, we catch the oryxes over here while the Lion Guard's still busy with the antelopes over there!
Nne plans an attack on a herd of oryxes[src]
2016-08-27-22 48 11

Nne and Tano corner a herd of oryxes.

Once the Lion Guard caught on that nothing was chasing the sable antelope, they confronted Janja about the attack, and he relayed Nne and Tano's plan. At the same time, Nne and Tano cornered the oryx herd in a dead-end canyon and began to advance on them. Just in time, the Lion Guard arrived, and Kion used the Roar of the Elders to blow the hyenas away.[15]

Purported Zimwi attack

But we saw it. Right before we jumped into the bushes. It had giant teeth! On the outside of its head!
―A gazelle on the Zimwi[src]
2016-10-15-19 09 33

The Lion Guard struggles to calm some panicked gazelles.

One night, several gazelles took shelter in a bush to hide from the purported Zimwi monster. Mistaking the gazelles for the Zimwi, Mtoto and his friends fled in fear.

Later, the Lion Guard encountered the same gazelles, who reported that they had seen the Zimwi. The Lion Guard investigated the gazelles' claim, only to run in fear from what they believed to be the Zimwi. This caused the gazelles to panic and begin to run around a small clearing. In an effort to keep the gazelles from hurting themselves, the Lion Guard opened a path into an open field and herded the gazelles through it. They then left the gazelles to tire themselves out.[16]

Lion Guard's rescue of a klipspringer

Bunga: He's a klipspringer! Can't he just jump to the other side?
Beshte: I think the poor little guy's too scared to move.
—Beshte and Bunga on a klipspringer who is trapped in the middle of a river[src]

One day, the Lion Guard found a lone klipspringer who was stranded on a rock in the middle of a river. In order to reach the klipspringer, Beshte knocked over a dead tree, and Kion attempted to cross it. However, the rotting bark gave way beneath him, and his teammates rushed onto the log to save him, only for their weight to break the log completely. As stray pieces of wood flew into the air, the klipspringer leaped to the opposite shore in fear.[17]

Gazelle stampede

Swala and the other gazelles must be looking for a route up to that grassland. But those rocks...

Swala's herd stands beneath an unstable rock pile.

Beshte wondered if they should warn Simba that gazelles spooked easily, but Bunga insisted that Simba knew what he was doing.

However, as the Lion Guard ran toward Swala's herd, the gazelles panicked and began to climb up the rock pile. Once they had reached the grazing ground above, the herd began to stampede toward several ostriches and their nests, and Ono hastened to warn Swala. Upon noticing Ono trying to get her attention, Swala called for a halt, and her herd stopped their stampede.[18]

Janja's attack on a klipspringer herd

It's Janja and his clan! They've got the klipspringers cornered!
―Ono[src]
2017-03-02-01 32 19

Janja advances on a herd of klipspringers.

Just in time, Hadithi and Ono distracted the hyenas, and the klipspringer was able to reach safety.[19]

Flood at the sable antelope's grazing grounds

They're just standing around in knee-deep water! Even the little baby antelopes!
―Ono on Bupu's herd[src]
2017-03-20-02 04 39

Kion observes Bupu's herd standing in their flooded grazing grounds.

While waiting for Beshte to make a hippo lane, the herd sat down stubbornly and refused to listen to Fuli's orders. Eventually, Fuli spoke politely enough to Bupu that he relented and led his herd through the hippo lanes. Along the way, the herd trampled Makuu and several of his crocodiles without noticing.[20]

Savannah Summit

We were just about to reach an agreement for the crocodiles to sleep by the antelope's watering hole.
―Simba, during the Savannah Summit[src]
2017-07-17-01 52 10

Bupu attends the Savannah Summit as the antelope's representative.

2017-07-17-01 53 19

Bupu and Makuu have a tense negotiation.

With relations between Makuu and the others restored, Bupu and Vuruga Vuruga argued over whose territory the crocodiles should sleep in.[21]

Mzaha's exile

Mzaha... Please. Antelopes are not...silly creatures!
―Bupu[src]
2017-09-26-16 27 33

Bupu chides Mzaha for his disruptive behavior.

With Mzaha in tow, Fuli visited the sable antelope's grazing grounds and convinced Bupu to give Mzaha another chance.

Though Rafiki invited them to stay at his tree, they opted to live together near Big Springs.[22]

Makini's painting ceremony

Several sable antelope attended Makini's painting of the royal family at Pride Rock.[22]

Nyuni's partnership with Bupu

We've got an impatient antelope herd back here. Seems they won't go anywhere without Bupu.
―Ono, when Bupu gets his horns stuck in a tree[src]

When Bupu got his horns stuck in a tree, his herd refused to move. As the Lion Guard worked to free Bupu, Zazu flew up and resolved to include the matter in his morning report to Simba. Eventually, the Lion Guard broke a branch off the tree, and it remained tangled in Bupu's horns, with Nyuni the weaver in its leaves. In order to broker a compromise between Bupu and Nyuni, Kion convinced Bupu to carry Nyuni around in his horns. Though Bupu was initially reluctant to do so, he later formed a partnership with Nyuni in which he carried the weaver around while Nyuni helped alert him to dangerous situations in his herd.[23]

Reirei's attack on a gazelle herd

Reirei's jackals are going after some gazelles!
―Ono reports to the Lion Guard[src]

Per Scar's orders, Reirei's pack attacked a herd of gazelles. Though the Lion Guard initially planned to save the herd, they had to divert their forces in order to stop an attack on Rafiki by Janja's clan. In their stead, they sent Tamaa to distract the jackals and lead them away from the gazelles.[24]

Fire at the Poromoko Crevasse

Hapana! A wildfire! Over at the Poromoko Crevasse! And it looks like the elands are trapped!
―Ono reports to the Lion Guard[src]

A herd of elands got trapped in a wildfire at the Poromoko Crevasse, but the Lion Guard created a rock bridge and led them to safety.[25]

Elephants' temporary respite with Bupu's herd

It looks like the antelopes have kicked them out too!
―Ono on Ma Tembo's herd[src]

When Ma Tembo and her herd were driven out of Kilio Valley by a fire, Kion convinced Bupu to let them temporarily take up residence with his herd. However, when the elephants began stirring up dirt and dust, Bupu proclaimed that their behavior was unacceptable. Kion implored Bupu to let the elephants stay for just a little while longer so that he could figure out how to resolve the situation. Though Bupu initially relented, he eventually kicked the elephants out of his herd's grazing grounds.[26]

Army of Scar's attack on Bupu's herd

They're still coming, Kion! Looks like they're after some antelope! You'll see them once we get through these trees!
―Ono, as the Army of Scar attacks Bupu's herd[src]

One day, the Army of Scar attacked Bupu's herd. While en route to thwart the attack, Kion ordered Ono to tell the sable antelope to take shelter in a nearby grove of trees, and Ono obediently led them into the grove. Meanwhile, Kion used the Roar of the Elders to defeat Scar's army.[27]

Pride Lander alliance against Scar

After all, a threat to the Pride Lands anywhere is a threat to Pride Landers everywhere. The sable antelopes are ready.

The Lion Guard slows Bupu's herd when they stampede across the Pride Lands.

When Bupu's herd started stampeding across the Pride Lands, the Lion Guard rushed to calm them down. Once the herd had slowed, Kion reprimanded them for having almost crushed the galagos, and Bupu retorted that they had spotted jackals. Despite Bupu's protests, Kion commanded him to call for the Lion Guard next time, and he reluctantly passed on the order to his herd.

In an attempt to unite the Pride Landers against Scar's army, the Lion Guard rallied several of the herds, including the sable antelope. Once the animals had convened at Pride Rock, they expressed shock that so many different herds had been gathered, and Kion explained that a threat to the Pride Lands anywhere was a threat to Pride Landers everywhere.

2019-02-06-03 38 40

Bupu's herd defends Makuu's float from an attack by the Army of Scar.

For the Lion Guard's first training exercise, Kion implored the Pride Landers to run to him, but they ended up panicking and falling over one another. Next, Kion called upon Makuu to help train the Pride Landers, but his fighting methods proved to be too brutal and specific to crocodiles. Eventually, Makuu gave up, and the Lion Guard took over training the Pride Landers.

Later, the Army of Scar besieged Makuu's float, and the Pride Landers resolved to assist him. Together, they stormed Makuu's watering hole and fought off the Army of Scar. After the fight, Makuu pledged his support to his fellow Pride Landers should they ever need his help.[28]

Scar's attack on Mizimu Grove

The antelopes will be staying as well.
―Bupu resolves to remain in the Pride Lands despite Scar's threat[src]
2019-03-31-01 42 53

The sable antelope resolve to remain in the Pride Lands and resist Scar's terrorism.

As the herds scattered, Ono spotted Bupu and his herd running toward the Poromoko Crevasse, and Fuli managed to slow them down just before they could fall over a ledge.

There, he showed them that Makini's baobab seed had survived the fire, and this inspired them to remain in the Pride Lands and fight Scar.[29]

Battle for the Pride Lands

I'll get the crocs and antelopes.

Bupu's herd charges into battle against the Army of Scar.

When the Lion Guard and Simba decided to invade the Outlands so as to halt Scar's terrorism, the Lion Guard brought the various Pride Lander herds, including the sable antelope, to Pride Rock to train for the upcoming battle. That night, Scar appeared in a fire at Pride Rock and urged the Pride Landers to abandon the Pride Lands before it was too late. Though the Pride Landers grew anxious about their chances against Scar, Kion and Simba planned the invasion of the Outlands to take place the following morning.

The next day, the Pride Landers gathered at the border of the Outlands for the invasion. Together, they attacked the Army of Scar and emerged victorious.[30]

Kiara's first hunt

For Kiara's first solo hunt, she attempted to hunt a herd of antelope. However, she continually made noise and scared the herd off. Eventually, the antelope herd ran into a fire and fled the area.[2]

Kovu's exile

Following Simba's declaration that Kovu was banished from the Pride Lands, several oryxes helped drive him away from Pride Rock.[2]

Marriage of Kovu and Kiara

Several species of antelope attended the marriage ceremony of Kovu and Kiara.[2]

Lion Guard's rescue of a klipspringer herd

The klipspringers! They're right in the path of the water!
Anga reports to the Lion Guard[src]

When Kion accidentally broke the Great Stone Wall with the Roar of the Elders, causing a flood, the Lion Guard led a nearby herd of klipspringers to safety.[31]

Physical characteristics

An antelope is a four-legged, hoofed animal of moderate size. Antelope have short-furred hides that are either blue, brown, or gray in color. Though their eyes range in color, black and brown are the most common colors. Most antelope have horns.[1]

Sociocultural characteristics

Should we remind him how easily gazelles spook when they're surprised?
―Beshte, when Simba runs toward Swala's herd[src]
2017-01-08-20 37 36

Gazelles are known to spook at the slightest noise or provocation.

Antelope are prey animals who feed on grass.[13] They are commonly hunted by cheetahs,[9] hyenas,[3] and lions.[2] Since leopards are not native to the Pride Lands, antelope do not react fearfully to their presence.[32] Though there are many different species of antelope, they are represented at the Savannah Summit by Bupu, a sable antelope.[21]

Certain species of antelope have distinct characteristics. Gazelles are skittish by nature and will flee at the slightest noise or provocation.[16][18] Sable antelope are known to be hard-headed and stubborn.[20] Oryxes are more aggressive and frequently get into fights with one another.[10]
