The anteater is a male anteater. As he is often lazy, he makes Timon and Pumbaa hunt bugs for him by tricking them into having a competition to see who can catch the most bugs on one's own.

The Lion King's Timon & Pumbaa

"Paraguay Parable"

Just as Timon catches a bug called the Gourmetus Salavati and shows it to Pumbaa, the anteater catches the bug with his tongue and pulls it into his mouth, to Timon's disappointment. He then asks the two if they have anything else to eat and says he doesn't have the energy to hunt for himself. Timon explains to him just how hard that was to catch that bug. This leads the anteater to praise the duo's hunting skills, sparking arguments between them. In a clever scheme, he has the meerkat and warthog enter a competition to collect bugs.

Once Timon and Pumbaa have brought back large portions of bugs, the anteater returns to count them by eating them. He declares the contest a tie and tells the duo they must collect more bugs to settle the dispute. However, they see through his ruse and retaliate by tying him to the ground, before squeezing the bugs out of him with a steamroller.

The anteater is later shown flattened, again complaining about his hunger. Timon decides to give him a bug in order to even the competition between himself and Pumbaa.

Personality and traits

Lethargic, gassy, and significantly overweight, the anteater has constant food cravings, but is often lazy when it comes to hunting on his own. He also proves to be quite manipulative, as he is able to cause a rift between Timon and Pumbaa and trick them into doing the job for him.
