On April 22, 2016, "A Trail to Hope" premiered in "The Mbali Fields Migration". A shortened version of the song played during the episode's end credits. The song's official music video featured extended lyrics and used footage from The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar and several episodes of The Lion Guard. Singer-songwriter Alex Cartañá provided vocals for the song.

The Lion Guard surveys Mbali Fields as "A Trail to Hope" is played
"A Trail to Hope" plays midway through "The Mbali Fields Migration". It picks up after Kion, the leader of the Lion Guard, takes charge of a gazelle and zebra migration and announces his intent to launch the journey. The song carries through the migration and ends as the herds survey a canyon and their destination, Mbali Fields, beyond it.
