I know why you're laughing! It's because of my hair-do, right? But I'm the only monkey who dresses his hair like that. I've got style, Simba!

A Kinglike Hair-do is a German comic inspired by The Lion King. It was published by Ehapa Verlag in September 1998.

Synopsis[]

When Simba laughed at his friend Simon's hair-do, Simon argued that he was stylish and unique. Simba boasted that he would one day sport a lion's mane like his father, Mufasa, but Simon merely laughed and compared a lion's mane to a bobble hat. Though Simba argued that his father was the king and that his hair-do was king-like, Simon retorted that lions could not be kings, as their manes slowed them down. He went on that he should be the king because his hair-do lent itself to speed. He attempted to show off his speed to Simba, but the cub posited that a king should be calm and thoughtful rather than fast. Instead of continuing the argument, Simon remarked that everyone could think what they liked.

Together, Simba and Simon traveled to the river, where Simba overheard a cry for help. Simon worried that the water would mess up his hair-do and warned Simba about potential dangers, like crocodiles, but the cub approached the river nonetheless and found a lemur trapped in a demolished dam. As Simba worked to free the lemur, Simon pointed out that lemurs were "a dime a dozen" and that it would not matter if there were one more lemur. Undeterred, Simba freed the lemur, who thanked him for his help and offered to assist him, should he ever need it.

The friends carried on down the river until they encountered a flock of flamingos. While Simba admired the birds for their beauty, Simon critiqued them for having no hair on their heads and called them "croaking, noisy hens" with no style. To Simba's dismay, he ran through the flock, scattering them. As the flamingos flew away, one lingered behind, and Simba realized that it was injured and that the flock had been protecting it. Before the flamingos could leave the river, he called for them to return and promised that no one would harm them. Simon accused Simba of being a "pussy cat," but Simba insisted that one should never let down an animal in need.

Next, Simba and Simon came across a rope bridge. Simba started to cross the bridge, only for it to snap beneath him and send him plunging into the river below. As he struggled to stay afloat, he spotted water snakes advancing on him and begged Simon for help. Simon, however, refused to enter the river for fear of messing up his hair-do. At that moment, the flamingos flew by, carrying the lemur, and together, the animals bore Simba to safety.

After the rescue, Simba reminded Simon that speed was not everything and that a king should be intelligent and have a good heart, as those were reasons for his subjects to love him. Though Simon conceded that Simba might be right, he maintained that a fancy hair-do was important as well.
